SOC 2010• Latest revision of Standard Occupation Classification Index• Main differences compared to SOC 2000• Definition of “Manager” has changed

– Supervisory/Administrative/Project Management roles re-positioned to other occupation codes

– Now more focused on those roles with corporate and strategic roles and responsibilities

• New codes for Information Technology, Telecommunications and Conservation/Environmental occupations

• ONS plans for implementation on surveys– LFS – May data release (Jan-March 2011)– APS & IHS – September 2011 (on Nomis by December 2011)– AHSE – Early 2012– Claimant Count and Vacancies data - Late 2012

ONS Website• ONS completely overhauling their website • Implementation date is 30th April 2010

– Old web site goes to NSA (www.stats.gov.uk)– New web site will be www.ons.gov.uk

• New data explorer tool for time-series data– Summary time series data tables (e.g regional tables) will no longer

exist ONS’s objectives for the new website• quicker and easier to find information, including better search & navigation • easier to use information, by downloading data, charts and graphs • improved accessibility for users with sight or other impairments • prompt release of outputs at 9:30 am, sharp

Labour Market Information (LMI) ReviewAims• coordination & cooperation in provision of LMI in Scotland through

the creation of a LMI framework; and• formalise roles & responsibilities of key stakeholders in the provision

of national, regional, local and sectoral LMI in Scotland

Work-streams for • Developing LMI

– assess current LMI provision, requirements and gaps in Scotland– agree what is feasible to provide, given available resources

• Communication & Dissemination of LMI– agree how any LMI improvements should be delivered

Teams are currently finalising recommendations
