Feast of the Holy Innocents, also called Innocents’ Day, is a Christian feast in re-membrance of the massacre of young chil-dren in Bethlehem by King Herod the Great in his attempt to kill the infant Jesus. The feast is observed by Western churches on December 28. The slain children were regarded by the early church as the 1st martyrs, but it is uncertain when the
day was !rst kept as a saint’s day. It may have been celebrat-ed with the Epiphany, but by the 5th century it was kept as a separate festival. In Rome it was a day of fasting & mourning.

Mary, Mother of God
Mary, our Blessed Mother, was only a young girl when she learned that she was going to be an important part of god’s plan for the whole world. Tradition says that Mary was 3 years old when her parents, Anne & Joa-chim, took her to the temple in Jerusalem to be blessed. They taught her the Jewish customs
and to always believe and trust in God. When Mary was a young women she said “Yes” to the angel Gabriel even though she did not understand. She was told to name the child Jesus. After much prayer & debate the Church leaders said that Mary was not only the mother of Jesus she was also the Mother of God. This was because Jesus is truly God. Mary’s cousin Elizabeth also called her “the mother of my Lord” when Mary came to visit her. Mary is our greatest saint, so we begin every year with a celebration in her honor. We also show our love and reverence for Mary on many other special days throughout the liturgical year called Marian Feasts.
P;+> F&; O$; T;&&BA Heavenly Father hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect
them as they protect us. Bless them and their
families for the selfless acts they perform for us
in our need. I ask this in your name. Amen
