CS120 COMPUTER DIGITAL LITERACY
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES This course is designed as a survey course to familiarize students with computer concepts
including software and hardware, software applications, and living online leading towards
digital computer literacy. Students will be introduced to Windows file management,
Internet and email concepts and techniques including professionalism and etiquette, word
processing, spreadsheet software, and presentation graphics skills in a hands-on setting.
REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS
Textbook bundle, ISBN: 9780134037523, which includes:

o GO! with Microsoft Windows 7 Getting Started, Gaskin, Ferrett

LEARNER OUTCOMES Students will be able to analyze the relationship between hardware and software for
personal as well as business use; utilize computer operating systems to efficiently manage
electronic files and folders in an organized manner; manage an operating system
environment including firewalls, fraud protection, backup systems, etc.; create and edit
documents using word processing software; create and edit spreadsheets and charting
using spreadsheet data; and create and edit effective presentations using presentations
software.
HOMEWORK Thoroughly reading, studying, and practicing each chapter is highly recommended. There
is a great deal of support material for each chapter – take advantage of this material. The
Course Schedule identifies specific homework deadlines. Late homework will not be
accepted, no exceptions. Many students use their personal computer equipment to
complete homework assignments if they have the appropriate hardware & software (be
sure to check with your instructor about the hardware and software required).

McKenzie Hall classroom labs when available
There is homework to be done in your book with instructions in the book for this. There is
also homework to be completed in MyITLab with instructions for this in MyITLab. Don’t
confuse the two, and read directions carefully.

All homework is due at the beginning of class on its due date unless otherwise directed.
EVALUATION Grades will be determined according to the following schedule:
Participation: Will be factored into grade Homework: 60% Exams: 40%
A: 90 – 100% B: 80 – 89% C: 70 – 79% D: 60 – 69% F: < 60% P: = 70% NP: < 70%
A grade of “C” or higher is considered passing. “Y” grades will not be given.
ACADEMIC HONESTY Each student is responsible for his/her own work. Copying is not permitted and will result
in a grade of zero for that assignment/quiz/test and will be reported to the Dean of
Students.
Helping, or being helped by, another student during an exam will be considered a breach of
academic honesty and is grounds for receiving a zero grade and/or failing the course
among other possible remedies.
CLASSROOM CONDUCT
Please silence cell phones and do not use during class
Please do not bring other electronic devices to class including laptops, iPods, iPads,
etc.
No food or drink in the classroom
Please respect the learning environment of others and keep distractions to a
minimum
