Crocheted Clouds

Spike Stitch

Single crochet around the previous two rows, insertingthe hook at the base of the first CC row, the top of thelast MC row, directly below the stitch you would workinto normally. Keep this stitch snug enough to fitcomfortably around the previous rows, yet looseenough to avoid scrunching the fabric.

Pattern

Foundation row: With MC, ch 23. Sk 1 ch and hdc across. Ch 1 and turn. (22 sts)

Row 1: Hdc 3 in first st, hdc to last st, hdc 3 in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (26 sts)

Rows 2-28: Repeat row 1. (134 sts) Change to CC1 on very last st.

Cloud pattern:

Rows 1-2: With new color, repeat row 1 twice. Change back to MC on last stitch. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 3: (WS) *Sc 2, spike st 2, repeat from * across to last two sts, sc 2. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 4: (RS) Sc BLO across. Change to CC on last st. Ch 1 and turn.

Rows 5-6: Repeat rows 1-2.

Row 7: (WS) Sc 4, spike st 2, *sc 2, spike st 2, repeat from * to last 6 st, spike st 2, sc 4. Ch 1 and turn.

Border: Hdc evenly along the sides of the shawl with MC, putting two stitches at each corner of the foundation row at the very bottom to round it out. Fasten off at the opposite end of the last row, weave in ends and block.
