Renovation Update ד"בס
March 7, 2019 By Norman Heyden
It is imperative that dedication pledges that have been promised for certain times be
paid at those times. The renovation budget and plans are based on the receipt of
pledged funds at the times promised.
Five of the eight stained glass panels for the Aron Kodesh in the main shul were
installed this week, and the remaining three will be installed next week. They are quite
beautiful and add a lot to the appearance of the Aron Kodesh. The revised lettering for
the luchot has been ordered but will take about two weeks to manufacture. Mr. Henig
plans to install the side doors of the Aron Kodesh next week as well.
Mr. Fligelman plans to apply clips to the LED light strip at the top of the mechitza to
hold it in place. This was expected to be completed this week Friday. The acrylic sheets
should be received by Beamsderfer Gallery from the manufacturer very shortly, and
the print shop making the mesh screen images is working on them. The mesh screen
images will be shipped to the gallery and will be applied to the acrylic sheets by Evan
Brownstein and his crew—hopefully next week—and, if time permits, installation in
the shul of at least some of them may begin next week.
The acrylic sheets that will make up the mechitza do an outstanding job preventing
reflections, but can scratch easily if not handled properly. There is no reason for
anyone to touch the acrylic sheets—particularly the upper eight inches that is clear
without mesh applied—or to lean on the mechitzas. Therefore, PLEASE DO NOT
TOUCH THE MECHITZAS. Currently, the second mechitza panel from the hallway
entrance doors is the only panel with an acrylic sheet, but all of the other panels will
have acrylic sheets installed shortly, as mentioned above.
Mr. Fligleman installed the social hall bookcase in the hallway this Friday in the
location of the old water fountain.
Please keep the shul clean. It would be GREATLY APPRECIATED if those individuals
who are storing their tallis and seforim in milk crates below the benches or leaving
their tallis on the benches during the week would rent a locker and store these items
there for the nominal cost of $100 per year. The crates detract from the appearance of
the room, as do the numerous tissue boxes scattered all over the men’s section. The
tissue boxes may be stored in the storage racks behind the benches behind an aisle
seat (so that people know where they can be found). This is not an issue in the
women’s section, which is considerably neater than the men’s section. We would like
no tallis bags or tissue boxes stored on the benches over the Shabbos of the
Chanukat HaBayit. Please plan accordingly.
