Division 20 Portal Widening and Turnback Facility Community Briefings – January 2017
Proposed Division 20 Railyard Improvements
Portal Widening • Existing Subway Portal will be upgraded to accommodate
higher operating speeds and more frequent train operations
Turnback Facility • Additional tracks will be added to the yard to allow more
frequent “turn back” of Red and Purple Line trains that are leaving and re-entering service
• These improvements are a necessary precursor to any future rail transit station in the Division 20 Yard. They will be designed to not preclude a future station at 3rd Street and/or 6th Street.
