GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The minimum credit requirement is 170 (within class) plus 8 (extracurricular). Passing the test of military training, CET-4 and the test of National Student Physical Health Standard are also necessary for the diploma and degree certificate.
2
Requirement of optional courses
1. Requirements of the Module Courses in the Course Setting (1) For the “Synthesis English” courses, the entrance English test decides the student’s teaching
level of College English. 3 credits should be obtained for term 1 and term 2 respectively. For the “Advanced and Enhancement English” courses, one course should be chose to study in the module of term 3, in which the Advanced English is compulsory for the students who failed in CET-4. Besides, one course should be chose to study in the module of term 4.
(2) The “General Courses of Basic Curriculum” has totally 12 credits, in which 6 credits should be chose to study in the General Core Courses of Basic Curriculum, and the Introduction to Science Technology Development, Introduction to Sociology, and Energy & Environment are recommended for the students of Civil Engineering. The rest 6 credits can be chose to study either in the General Core Courses of Basic Curriculum or other kinds of general curriculum. The study term of these 6 courses can be arranged in term 1 to term 7 at will but not beyond term 7.
(3) About the “Advanced Mathematics”, “Linear Algebra and Space Analytic Geometry”, “College Physics”, “College Physics Experiment”, and “College Chemistry”, the indicated levels in the Course Setting are decided to warrant the fundamental cultivation requirements of Civil Engineering. According to the individualized cultivation ideas of our university, capable students can choose to study higher levels at will, which would provide them appropriate priorities in the chance of studying abroad, entrance examination exemption for graduate education and application for scholarships.
(4) Special requirements for the specialized curriculums and trans-disciplinary curriculums are shown in “2”.
(5) Specialized bilingual courses are listed with “(Bilingual)” in the Course Setting. At least one of them should be chose to study.
(6) Excellent students are encouraged to obtain much more credits via appropriate priorities in the chance of studying abroad, entrance examination exemption for graduate education and application for scholarships. Junior and senior students, especially those students who have obtained the qualification of entrance examination exemption for graduate education can choose some courses for the graduated students, and the obtained excess credits will be included in the transcript except for the required 170+8 credits. Besides, these credits will be included in the total credits of graduate stage after the students begin their graduate study.
2. Special Requirements for the Specialized Curriculums and Trans-Disciplinary Curriculums
There are 3 specialized modules for the specialized curriculums: Construction Engineering, Road & Bridge Engineering, and Underground Construction Engineering. The total credits of first module are 14, and the total credits of the second and the third module are 12 respectively. The students should choose one module as the main module and obtain all the credits in it, and they should choose one module as the auxiliary module and obtain at least 2~4 courses (at least 4~6 credits) in it. The total credits of the main module and the auxiliary module should not less than 18.
The curriculum designs and the corresponding courses in the three specialized modules are shown in the following table. For these curriculum designs, students accomplish required calculating description and design drawings under the guide of tutors and obtain 1 credit if they are eligible. The corresponding course is requested for the study of any curriculum design.

A series of non-module courses in the Specialized Curriculum and Trans-Disciplinary Curriculum are also provided for the students. They can choose 2 credits in each of them arbitrarily.
The teaching of “A Project Design” is organized by the institute and the ideology of engineering education is introduced in the teaching process. The students coming from Civil Engineering, Architecture and Building Environment & Equipment Engineering will cooperate together as a study team to complete a real technical project with multi-specialty integration characteristics, during which the students’ ability of self-study, independent thinking, team cooperation, oral expression and practice can be well progressed. The study team will choose a project topic under the tutor’s guide and propose the project feasibility report. The students will begin the project after the report being recognized by the tutor. When they finish the project, they submit and show their production conclusion in the oral defense. This course is arranged in term 7. The tutor will evaluate the quality of the projects and assess the student’s grades, and the eligible students will obtain 2 credits.
3.Requirements for the Comprehensive Practical Curriculum (1) Graduation Project
At the beginning of term 8, according to the mutual choice between the students and tutors, the graduation project topic is settled for every student. Under the tutors’ guide, students undergo the design or research works according to the requirements of the project mission statement, pass through the middle assessments of various stages, and submit the fruits of graduation design in the
4
middle of June of term 8. The department will organize the oral defense and assess the grades. The eligible students will obtain 12 credits.
(2) Survey Practice
After finishing the study of the second year, the student will undergo the survey practice under the tutor during the first two weeks of the summer vacation. After finishing the practice works, the student deal with the practice records and accomplish the practice report. The tutor will assess the student’s grade and the eligible student will obtain 2 credits.
(3) Professional Practice
Professional Practice has 6 credits. It is arranged in the summer vacation at the end of third year, including 1 week of centralized visiting practice and 5 weeks of special practice works in construction sites (centralized or dispersed). After finishing the practice works, the student should prepare the practice diary, report, individual appraisal presented by the practice site and other practice materials which will be submitted within the 1st week of term 7. After passing through the oral defense organized by the department, the eligible student will obtain 2 credits.
4. Requirements of Extracurricular 8 Credits and Implementing Method It is implemented according to the arrangement and requirements of the Student Office. The
students are encouraged to take part in various kinds of competition in the field of Civil Engineering.
