ESSAY. Explain in 100 words or less why you want to run for the position and your vision for AMS. There are lots of things in this organization that I would like to change, things that I believe will allow the
organization to be better, the relationships among members to be formed, and the projects to be more successful. I was decided on not running and just giving my ideas to those who are and I trust the most. These ideas include involving the members more into the organization’s works, to bring back the fun in math, to build better relationships, and to take better care of the members as a home organization. The Vector party had a vision that was similar to mine. However, talking about my ideas with other people made me want to see them happen, and I was afraid of the possibility that they might not happen if I was just sitting at the sidelines. I thought then, I have my ideas, there’s still the opportunity to run, I have no other heavy commitments next year, why don’t I take all of these and make them happen? With that in mind, I decided that it is time to take that chance to run, to put my ideas into action, and to do what I can to make things happen.
As a current member in the Academics Department, I feel like I have made no contribution to the department—apart from giving my overdue LTs of Ma21. I chose to run for Academics Department Head because I wanted to make a change in that department in particular, including its NSTP program, sample LT collection, and member involvement. I was one of those members that hardly did anything for the Academics Department, and I want to change it so that there would be more opportunities, more motivation for members to do something for that department, to become active and take part in the organization’s works with passion for math and math appreciation. With the highest number of members among the three departments, the Academics Department should be able to take better care of its members and guide them into sharing the organization’s vision-‐mission. PLEDGE I, Regine Carissa T. Villanueva , attest to the facts contained in this Certificate of Candidacy and in all other documents required by the Electoral Board of the Ateneo Mathematics Society (AMS). I thereby give permission to evaluate the facts contained in all the documents I have submitted to the AMS Electoral Board.
I swear to uphold the rules stipulated in the AMS Electoral Code and by the AMS Electoral Board with full awareness that the violation of the said rules would result to possible sanctions as stipulated in the AMS Electoral Code.
It is my sincere intention to promote a free, honest, and clean election.

III. PLATFORM You are allowed to have more than three (3) Main Points. USE PROPER FORMAT. Strictly ONE (1) LINE ONLY for each Main Point and NO MORE THAN SEVEN (7) LINES for the Details. Note: A sentence does not automatically correspond to one line. MAIN POINT 1: Pledge more LTs While sample LTs of Math subjects taken up by Math Majors are updated every semester, other Math subjects’ sample LTs are few, old, and not as helpful. By getting Academics Department members to pledge a minimum of 3 sets of LTs of Math subjects (and any subject under the Mathematics Department) that are not taken up by Math Majors, the sample LTs of the organization will be updated. An updated set of sample LTs will be of further help to all students taking up any Math-‐related subjects, so that the benefits of Math Majors in the organization will be shared to all LS students. MAIN POINT 2: Prep Course for members With Math major subjects getting difficult for each year, a prep course for a “new” kind of Math subject would be arranged at the start of each semester. These Math subjects include Ma18 A&B, Ma122, Ma151, Stat109, any Math subject to be taught by Sir Roden David, and other difficult subjects. These prep courses would include group study and consultation sessions, giving of guidelines on what to do for that subject’s LTs, mock exams, and necessary reviewers for the subject. MAIN POINT 3: Propose for a better NSTP The AMS NSTP is a new project for 2012-‐2013. Building the bridge between the NSTP program and AMS would improve the NSTP program, and hence, would also improve the NSTP experience of AMS members. This proposal would include an assignment of a pair of area heads from AMS per NSTP section. The area heads would accompany all NSTP area insertions to lead and join in the activities, and to guide the students as well. They will have the tasks of checking attendance, collecting payments, and grading the students’ performances. They will serve as the eyes, ears and hands of the NSTP formator/s, to assist them in monitoring the AMS NSTP.
