TheMiddleEastandIslamicConsortiumofB.C.(MEICON-BC)iscallingforsubmissionsofabstractsofpapersfromgraduateandupperdivisionundergraduatestudentsinallacademicdisciplineswithaninterestintheMiddleEastand/ortheIslamicworldandrelatingtoalltimeperiods.Possibleareasofresearchandstudyinclude:

• MiddleEastGeo-politicsandGeo-cultures• ReceptionofIslamicLiteraturesinWorldLiteratures• ConceptualizationofIslamintheMiddleEastandBeyond• MuslimsintheWestpastandpresent• NarrativesofGender• NarrativesofConflictandChange• MarginandPeriphery• MemoryandMemorialization• TextsandContexts• PowerandAuthority

Theabstractsshouldbeofmaximum200words.Wewillbelookingforabstractsthathaveastrongfocusedstatementofthesis,cleargoalsandmethodology,andconvincingcoherentconclusions.Acceptedpapersshouldbe20minutesinlength(i.e.,maximum8pages).Pleasesendabstractswithfullname,institutionalaffiliation,academicprogram/year,andpapertitleaspdfor.docattachmentstoyazigi@interchange.ubc.cawiththeheadingMEICON-BCABSTRACTSUBMISSIONnolaterthan24January2011.PresenterswhoseabstractsareacceptedwillbecontactedbyFebruary4.Theconferencewillprovideaccommodationhelpforout-oftownstudentpresenterswhomayneedit.
