This user guide applies to both single and twinhandset systems. The internal call functionsdescribed in this guide apply only to Freestyle2100 base stations with more than one handsetconnected.

By purchasing the Freestyle 2100 you nowown a product which combines the advantagesof cordless operation with the performance ofa high quality corded telephone. It complieswith the Digitally Enhanced CordlessTelecommunications (DECT) standard andoffers unparalleled quality and features.
GAP (Generic Access Profile)
The Freestyle 2100 is a non GAP product. This means that no other handsets can beregistered to the Freestyle 2100 base stationand that Freestyle 2100 handsets cannot beregistered to any other base station.
• If you have purchased the Freestyle 2100you will have a single handset product.
• If you have purchased the Freestyle 2100Twin you will have the use of two handsetswhich will be pre-registered to the basestation.

Safety informationGeneral
Only use the power supply included with the product. Using an unauthorisedpower supply will invalidate your guaranteeand may damage the telephone. The itemcode for the Freestyle 2100 base stationmains power supply is 009294. The item codefor the Freestyle alarm clock radio chargermains power supply is 009865. Only use the approved rechargeablebatteries supplied. Spare rechargeablebatteries are available from the FreestyleHelpline 0870 240 3962.If the keypad is locked, it is NOT possible to make emergency calls to 999 and 112.
Do not open the handset (except to replacethe handset batteries) or charger. This couldexpose you to high voltages or other risks.Contact the Helpline for all repairs.Radio signals transmitted between thehandset and base may cause interference tohearing aids.It is recommended that advice from aqualified expert be sought before using thisproduct in the vicinity of emergency/intensive care medical equipment.
It is recommended that if you have apacemaker fitted you check with a medicalexpert before using this product.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There isa serious risk of explosion and/or the releaseof highly toxic chemicals.
Cleaning
Simply clean the handset and base with a damp (not wet) cloth, or an antistatic wipe.Never use household polish as this will damage the product. Never use a drycloth as this may cause a static shock.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.The product may heat up when the batteriesare being recharged or during prolongedperiods of use. This is normal. However, werecommend to avoid damage you do not placethe product on antique/ veneered wood.Do not stand your product on carpets or othersurfaces which generate fibres, or place it inlocations preventing free flow of air over itssurfaces.Do not submerge any part of your product inwater and do not use it in damp or humidconditions, such as in bathrooms.Do not expose your product to fire, explosiveor other hazardous conditions. There is a slight chance that your phonecould be damaged by an electrical storm. We recommend that you unplug the powerand telephone line cord for the duration of the storm.
If the handset has been set to Babysittermode it can only be used to dial the onenumber that has been set. You will not beable to make calls to 999 or 112 unlessyou choose to store one of these numbers.

Setting up Follow these steps to set up your Freestyle 2100 ready for use
1 Connect the base station
Plug the power supply cable into the power socket on the underside of your base.
2 Plug the power supply unit intothe wall socket
Plan the location of yourFreestyle 2100
The following points should be considered:
• Situate your product close enough to thepower socket so that the cable will reachsafely without stretching. Ensure that youplan the location so that the mains power is easily accessible in case you need todisconnect the power.
• Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other electrical products to avoidinterference.
Please note
The Freestyle 2100 has a range of up to 300metres outdoors and up to 50 metres indoors.The range will be reduced when there is noclear line of sight between the base andhandset. Thick stone walls can severely affectthe range.

3 Install the rechargeable batteries in the handset
The handset uses two rechargeableNickel Metal Hydride Ni-MH) AAAbatteries which are supplied. Takecare to insert the batteries as shownand then fit the battery cover (thiscan be found in the packaging withthe batteries).
Once the battery has been fullycharged (after the initial 16 hours)and the handset is removed from the base the battery icon will show50%, this shows that the battery ischarging correctly.
4 Charge the handset for at least16 hours
Before you use your Freestyle 2100for the first time, it is important tohave the batteries fully charged. The batteries need to chargecontinuously for at least 16 hours toreach full charge.
Place the handset on the base, thebattery icon will initially show empty.After a short time period the batteryicon will show 100%. This means that the battery is charging and doesnot mean that the handset is fullycharged.

If the handset battery symbol is empty andflashing, you will need to recharge yourhandset before you can use it.
Battery performance
Under no circumstances should non-rechargeable batteries be used. Only usethe approved batteries, type: rechargeableNickel Metal Hydride (NiMH); Size AAA;Capacity 600 mAh. Using unapprovedbatteries will invalidate your guarantee andmay damage the telephone.
To keep your batteries in the best condition,leave the handset off the charger for a few hoursat a time (after the initial 16 hour charge).
Please note, however, that new Nickel MetalHydride (Ni-MH) batteries do not reach theirfull capacity until they have been in normaluse for several days.

Please note
Under ideal conditions, the handset batteryshould give about 10 hours talktime or 100hours standby on a single charge. Optimumtime for talk and standby are only achievedwhen the handset batteries are new and fully charged.
5 Connect the telephone line cord to the base and plug intothe wall socket
Ensure that each end of the line cordis fitted into the correct socket.
Battery performance (cont)
Fully discharging the batteries at least once a week will help them to last as long aspossible. However, the charge capacity ofrechargeable batteries will reduce with timeas they wear out, so reducing the talk/standbytime of the handset. Eventually they willneed to be replaced.

Using your Freestyle 2100telephone
To make a call
Press the TALK button. The displaywill show the icon and you willhear the dial tone.
Enter the telephone number. It isdialled automatically.
To end a call
Press the TALK button.
Or
Place the handset back in the base.
To receive a call
When the telephone rings the displayshows the icon.
If you have subscribed to a CallerDisplay Service your caller’s numberwill be shown. If the caller haswithheld their number, the displaywill show – – – – .
Press the TALK button or pick thehandset up from the base to answerthe call.
Preparatory dialling
Preparatory dialling allows you toenter the number before pressingthe TALK button. This enables youto correct any mistakes before youactually make the call.
First enter the telephone number tobe dialled.
The number is shown on the display.
If you make a mistake you can deletea digit by pressing the CLEAR button.

To adjust the earpiece volume
There are 3 volume levels to selectfrom.
Press the PROG button.
Press the 4 button.
Press 1-3 to set the volume you want.(1 is the quietest and 3 the loudestvolume setting.)
A beep sounds at each level youpress.
Press PROG to confirm.
To switch secrecy on and off
During a call:
Press the CLEAR button. The display will show the icon.Your caller cannot hear you.
Press the CLEAR button again toreturn to your caller.

When you are on a call you can talk to someonein the same room without your caller hearing.

To page your handset(s)
You can page your handset(s) fromthe base station to alert a handsetuser that they are wanted or tolocate a missing handset.
Press the PAGE button on the basestation. The handset(s) will begin to ring.
Press the PAGE button again to stopringing.
You can also stop the ringing bypressing the TALK button on thehandset. If you have purchased theFreestyle 2100 Twin, pressing theTALK button will stop the ringing atthat handset only.
Please note
When programming your Freestyle 2100,the unit will give a double, two tone beepafter the successful sequence and a single,long beep in the case of an error.

To redial the last number called
Press the REDIAL button to displaythe last number dialled. Furtherpresses of the REDIAL button willdisplay previous numbers dialled(up to 10).
Press the TALK button to dial thenumber displayed.
10 Last number redial
Your handset automatically saves the last 10numbers called for redialling.
Quickdial directory
You can store up to 10 of your most frequentlydialled numbers in each of your Freestyle 2100handsets. Numbers can be up to 18 digits long.
To store a number in the quickdialdirectory
Press the PROG button.
Press the QUICKDIAL button. The display shows the first entry (quickdial location 0).
Press QUICKDIAL again to scrollthrough the entries, 0-9. These arethe locations under which eachquickdial number will be stored.

To transfer a call
During an external call:
Press and hold the R button.
The external caller will be put onhold and the other handset will ring.The display will show the iconand .
When the other handset answers,press the TALK button on thehandset to complete the call transfer.
Transferring calls
If you are using the Freestyle 2100 Twin, you can transfer an external call to the otherhandset.

To make an internal call
Press and hold the R button until theicon and are displayed.
The other handset will ring.
To end the internal call, press theTALK button.
Internal calls
If you have purchased the Freestyle 2100 Twin,you will be able to make internal calls betweenhandsets.

To change/delete a stored quickdialnumber
Press the PROG button.
Press the QUICKDIAL button. The display shows the first entry(quickdial location 0).
Press the QUICKDIAL button againto scroll through the entries, 0-9.

Enter the new number if required.

Caller Display
IMPORTANT
To use Caller Display you must first subscribeto your network provider’s Caller Displayfeature. A quarterly fee is payable.
For more information on BT CallingFeatures, call BT free on 0800 800 150.
To view/dial a number in the Calls list
Press the CALLS button. The newestunanswered call is displayed.
Press the CALLS button again toscroll through the Calls list.
When the number you want isdisplayed, press the TALK button todial it.
To delete a number from the Calls list
Press the CALLS button. The newestunanswered call is displayed.
Press the CALLS button again toscroll through the Calls list to thenumber you want to delete.
Press and hold the Clr. button. The number is deleted.
Press the Clr. button again to returnto standby.
Using Caller Display
If you subscribe to a Caller Display feature,you can see your caller’s number (provided itis not withheld) on your handset display beforeyou answer the call.
If the caller has withheld their number, thedisplay will show – – – –.
Ring Back calls will display the number youdialled to request the Ring Back service.
The Calls List
When a call is not answered (ie. a missed call)your caller’s telephone number will be storedin the Calls list. The Calls list holds up to 20 missed calls. An icon will appear onthe display.
When the Calls list is full, the oldest call willbe replaced by a new call, the most recent callwill always be at the top of the list. If a callerrings again their number will move to the topof the list.

Handset settings
To set the keypad lock
You can lock the handset keypad toprevent accidental button presses.
Press and hold the # button. Thedisplay shows . The keypadbuttons are now locked.
Press and hold the # button again tounlock the keypad.
To adjust the handset ringer volume
Press the PROG button.
Press the 6 button. Ringing at thecurrent volume setting is heard.
Press a button 1-3 to set thepreferred volume.
Press the PROG button to confirmyour selection.
To adjust the handset ringer melody
There are 6 different ringer melodiesto choose from.
Press the PROG button.
Press the 5 button. The currentmelody selection is heard.
Press a button 1-6 to select thepreferred melody.

To switch the handset ringer off/on
Press and hold the ✱ button. The ringer is switched off and thedisplay shows .
Press and hold the ✱ button again.The ringer is switched back on.
Please note
You can still answer incoming calls bypressing the TALK button when the keypadis locked.
To restore the default settings
The system PIN number is factoryset to 0000 and is used to access andprogram certain functions. If youwish you can change this PIN to afour digit number of your choice.
Press the PROG button.
Press the 1 button,display shows - - - -.
Enter the existing PIN (0000 if ithas not yet been changed sincepurchase), display shows 0000.
Press the PROG button,display shows - - - -.
Enter your new PIN,display shows 0000.
Press the PROG button,display shows - - - -.
Enter your new PIN again,display shows 0000.
Press the PROG button, the unitbeeps and the display returns to idle.
Your PIN is now changed.

To restore the default settings
This will return your phone to itsoriginal factory settings.
Press the PROG button.
Press the 9 button.
Enter the system PIN number(factory setting 0000).
Press the PROG button. The defaulthandset settings are restored.

To adjust the Recall setting
The default recall setting (option 2)is set at 100ms which is used by thePublic Telephone Network as well asmost PBX’s. Normally you will notneed to change this setting but somePBX’s may require a longer recall inwhich case option 1 (280ms) shouldbe selected.
There are 2 settings to choose from.

Babysitting settings will only apply to thehandset you programme, therefore if you havepurchased a Twin then you may want toprogramme both handsets.
Babysitter mode
You can set your Freestyle 2100 handset todial only a single phone number that you havestored in its memory. This preventsunauthorised calls being made except to thenumber you specify, this number could beyour mobile phone number or another numberwhere you can be reached. This feature couldbe useful if you are leaving your children witha babysitter and want to leave a contactnumber, in case of emergencies.

Help
Replacing the handset batteriesAfter a time, you may find that the handsetbattery is running out of charge more quickly.This is a standard sign of wear and the batterieswill need replacing.

1. Check that the mains power cable isconnected to the base unit and that the mainsswitch is on.
2. Check that the handset is within the rangeof the base station.

Buzzing noise on my radio, TV, computer or hearing aidSometimes your Freestyle 2100 can interferewith other electrical equipment if it is placedtoo close.

Guarantee
Your Freestyle 2100 handset is guaranteed fora period of 12 months from the date ofpurchase.
Subject to the terms listed below, theguarantee will provide for the repair of, or atBT’s or its agent’s discretion the option toreplace the Freestyle 2100, or any componentthereof, (other than batteries), which isidentified as faulty or below standard, or as aresult of inferior workmanship of materials.Products over 28 days old from the date ofpurchase may be replaced with a refurbishedor repaired product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:
• The guarantee shall only apply to defects thatoccur within the 12 month guarantee period.
• Proof of purchase is required.
• The equipment is returned to BT or its agentas instructed.
• This guarantee does not cover any faults ordefects caused by accidents, misuse, fairwear and tear, neglect, tampering with theequipment, or any attempt at adjustment orrepair other than through approved agents.
• This guarantee does not affect yourstatutory rights.

This product is intended for use within the UKfor connection to the public telephone networkand compatible switchboards, which supporttone dialling and timed break recall. If in doubtplease consult your switchboard maintainer.
Technical information
How many telephones can you have?
All items of telephone equipment have aRinger Equivalence Number (REN), which isused to calculate the number of items which maybe connected to any one telephone line. YourFreestyle 2100 has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is allowed, if the total REN of 4 is exceeded,the telephones may not ring.
With different telephone types there is noguarantee of ringing, even when the REN isless than 4.

Switchboard external lineaccess code
If you have connected your Freestyle 2100 to aswitchboard and the switchboard requires youto wait for a dial tone after dialling the accesscode needed to make an external call, you willneed to enter a pause.
To enter a pause in a stored number
When storing a number, you caninsert a pause in the number whenthe cursor is at the appropriate point, by pressing and holding the
button until a P appears in the display.
