Brookland Neighborhood Civic

Association  ______________________________________________________________

January 2011Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It’s that time of year…..time for the Brookland Neighborhood Civic Association’s annualmembership drive. We hope you’ll consider joining.

It was a little over two years ago that BNCA reconstituted under new leadership. Since that time,BNCA has become an effective forum and voice for the Brookland community. We've accomplished

the following:

Hosted monthly meetings to discuss issues of interest to Brookland residents includingBrookland’s history, combating crime, residential solar and energy conservation, preservingBrookland’s green space, and possible uses for the Brookland Elementary School

Weighed in on important issues affecting Brookland residents including zoning and development proposals, pedestrian safety, fee and policy changes at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 12th Streettrees and overhead utility lines, safety on the Metropolitan Branch Trail, and expanding Circulator  bus routes to better serve the neighborhood

Co-sponsored a variety of events and social activities such as the fall picnic, Brookland Clean-Upand Beautification Day, Kids Clothing Swap, guided tour of the Lois Mailou Jones art exhibit, Fort

Bunker Hill Park Clean-Up, and Home Energy Conservation Workshop Launched a new website at www.BrooklandCivic.org and established a presence on Facebook,Twitter, You Tube, and Flickr

Helped inform Brookland voters by hosting Town Meetings with elected officials, publishing aMayor and City Council candidates’ questionnaire, and hosting a Q&A forum with ANC candidates

We’ve accomplished a lot and, with your help, we can do a lot more. BNCA 2011 membershipdues are only $10 per person and guarantee you a voice in this important organization. We hopeyou'll consider becoming a member!
