Brookland Neighborhood Civic Association  ______________________________________________________________ January 2011 Dear Friends and Neighbors, It’s that time of year…..time for the Brookland Neighborhood Civic Association’s annual membership drive. We hope y ou’ll consider joining. It was a li ttle over two years ago t hat BNCA reconstituted under new l eadership. Since that time, BNCA has become an effective forum and voice for the Brookland community . We've accomplished the following: Hosted monthly meetings to discuss issues of interest to Brookland residents including Brookland’s history, combating crime, residential solar and energy conservation, preserving Brookland’s green space, and possible uses for the Brookland Elementary School Weighed in on important issues affecting Brookland residents including zoning and development  proposals, pedestrian safety, fee and policy changes at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center, 12th Street trees and overhead utility lines, safety on the Metropolitan Branch Trail, and expanding Circulator  bus routes to better serve the neighborhood Co-sponsored a variety of events and social activities such as the fall picnic, Brookland Clean-Up and Beautification Day, Kids Clothing Swap, guided tour of the Lois Mailou Jones art exhibit, Fort Bunker Hill Park Clean-Up, and Home Energy Conservation Workshop Launched a new website at www.BrooklandCivic.org and established a presence on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, and Flickr  Helped inform Brookland voters by hosting Town Meetings w ith elected officials, publishing a Mayor and City Council candidates’ questionnaire, and hosting a Q&A forum with ANC candidates We’ve accomplished a lot and, with your help, we can do a lot more. BNCA 2011 membership dues are only $10 per person and guarantee you a voice in this i mportant organization. We hope you'll consider becoming a member!
