“Breakthrough” Summary: When Joyce Smith's adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John's recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction.
I’ve loved books for as
long as I can remember, but I
didn’t start collecting them
until middle school when I
bought a pair of Sherlock
Holmes volumes. Since then,
my personal library has
blossomed well-past my shelf
space!
Most recently, we found
several books owned by my
great-great Aunt Irene, who
was a school teacher in Kansas
in the 1920s, including old
schoolbooks and children’s
books. The oldest book in my
possession belonged to my
great-great-great-great
grandfather, James Jenkins,
from 1836. It’s fascinating to
me to hold a piece of history
like that, especially from my
own family tree!
My most treasured book is
“Little Lord Fauntleroy” from
1916; it was the last book my
grandmother gave me before
she passed. She was a fellow
book-lover and collecting books
was something we shared.
Reading and writing has
always gone hand-in-hand for
me, my writing projects as
varied as my reading list.
While I dabbled in poetry and
journalism as a student, novels
are my favorite medium. In
March 2018 I officially
published my first novella,
“Becoming Countess”, under my
pen name Shae Mallak.
Not a day goes by when
there isn’t a book in my hand
and a story in my head.
Honestly, I don’t know how to
live any other way.
