Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
This week our rule of the week is about mak-
ing correct choices at school. I’ve spoken to
the students about good consequences and
bad consequences. Everything they do re-
quires a choice and a decision to be made
around it. At Ambrose we encourage good
choices so that students can receive a good
consequence.
I would like to extend a huge thanks to our
amazing P&C who have funded the costs of
our recent Saiki Sister City visit and covered
the costs of the Mt Larcom Colonial Day.
A specials thanks to Mr Graham Adams who
once again has kindly donated @me to repair
the discus safety net that was accidently
knocked over in a tragic lawn mower accident
by Mrs Collis.
Another special thank you to Marmor Quarry
for once again dona@ng a large quan@ty of
sand for our long jump pit.
Rewards Day Term 2
This term teachers have decided on running a
cinema day for rewards day. The amount of
student high 5’s/dojo points will determine
which cinema a student will be invited to.
There will be a gold class cinema - 4 items,
silver class cinema 3 items, bronze class cine-
ma 2 items and general admission cinema 1
item. Each class will contain a @cket and some
bonus item/s.
Reading
Please ensure you are reading regularly with
your children. Reading can be both your child
reading to you and you reading to your child.
Reading can be done anywhere at any@me.
Please take the @me to read and share with
your children.
Our a3endance target for all our Ambrose
students is 95% - 100%. Every single day
counts. Research clearly states that every day
a child is at school, the be3er they perform at
school and they achieve more success with
their learning. We encourage all our students
to aim for 95% - 100% a3endance in 2019.
Parents please ensure you are mee"ng your
Week 7 Term 2 05 June 2019
legal obliga"ons to ensure your child is at
school when they are well, every nominat-
ed school day this year.
Mondays and Fridays are the schools worst
a3endance days. Please help the school to
turn this around in 2019. The whole school
averages 96% a3endance which is excellent,
however on Monday and Fridays this per-
centage drops to 90%-93%.
Current a3endance is as follows:-
P – 94% same as last week
1 – 92% same as last week
2 – 93% same as last week
3 – 98% same as last week
4 – 95% same as last week
5 – 96% same as last week
6 – 93% same as last week
Communica@on is very important. An invita-
@on is extended to all our families, to con-
tact me if you have any concerns, worries or
issues you would like to work through.
Please come and speak to me. I cannot fix
any issues or problems if I am not aware of
them. Working together ensures the suc-
cessful learning journey of your children.
With the cooler weather upon us, remem-
ber the classrooms are not the warmest.
Please remind your children to bring a coat /
wear warm clothing.

dents. No experience required. You will find it is quite reward-
ing. The students just love seeing volunteering parents/carers
at the school. Alternatively, you can donate home bake or
fruit for sale in the tuckshop.

Chappy Chat As parents/caregivers we are often helping our children regulate their emotions in those difficult moments when their world is collapsing. But what about us? We are in the trenches focused on keeping everyone calm, whilst not completely losing it ourselves. We need a plan too. We need strategies to handle OUR big feelings. So that we can model what it looks like for our kids. As you know...they will always do what you do, not what you say! Here are 5 ways to deal with FRUSTRATIONS as a PARENT… by big Life Journal ACCEPT YOUR CHILD AS THEY ARE
♦ See and know them for who they are rather than who we expect them to be. ♦ Tell them from the start that you will love them… and repeat it all the time. ♦ Be awake to who they are; feeling seen is an essential part of feeling loved. ♦ A great way to connect with your child is via their love language, this way you can make them feel seen and ap-preciated. (physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, acts of service)
ALLOW YOUR EMOTIONS ♦ All feelings are okay! ♦ When a strong feeling arises, observe it. Pause and take a breath. ♦ When frustration arises, use the helpful practice
S.T.O.P. S – Stop what you are doing T – Take a few deep breaths O – Observe your thoughts and feelings as they are P – Proceed with whatever you were doing before
KNOW THE “90 SECOND RULE” ♦ When we resist a feeling, we inadvertently remain stuck in the same feeling. ♦ When we accept the feeling, it’s gone in under 2 minutes! ♦ It the critical 90 seconds of an emotion, be sure to communicate your strong feelings to your child and how you plan to cope with them. “Mummy is feeling very tired and grumpy right now”
PARENT FROM A PLACE OF GRATITUDE ♦ Practising gratitude improves mental and physical health, increases empathy and improves sleep. It even changes the brain! ♦ Each time you’re about to say, “I have to” … replace it with “I get to”… ♦ “I have to take my daughter to dancing” versus “I get to take my daughter to dancing”. ♦ “I have to put him to bed” versus “I get to put him to bed”. APPLY GROWTH MINDSET TO YOUR PARENTING ♦ No one is born knowing how to parent. When frus-trations overtake you, use it as an opportunity to grow from the experience, and decide what you’d do differently next time. ♦ When it all seems too difficult, remembering the feel-ing of things being hard is the feeling of your brain grow-ing.
Remember… even parents need
Self -calming strategies!
