production environment. The 3-DHot Stamping (3DHS) process ofGermany-based Leonhard JurzStiftung & Co KG cuts the usualprocess chain for the productionof chromed parts with complex 3-D geometry. The Frimo GroupGmbH in Germany and GreatBritain-based Huntsman havedeveloped an automotive enginehood manufactured in the RTMprocess with a PU matrix andspecial structure produced byEschmann Textures InternationalGmbH. The special structureimitates real sharkskin coatedwith a lacquer system from ISL-Chemie GmbH & Co using in-mould coating before mouldingthe part.

Axalta launches Nap-Gard 7-2555thermosetting epoxy powder anti-corrosion coating

Axalta Coating Systems’ latestgeneration Nap-Gard product hasbeen introduced, which is athermosetting epoxy powder thatcan operate in 155°C (311°F).Nap-Gard High Tg 7-2555 isused as a corrosion barriercoating for sub-sea andunderground pipelines thatoperate in high temperatureservice. It can also be used as acorrosion coating under multi-layer insulation systems or as acorrosion coating in a stand-aloneor dual-powder coating system. The operating system increasesto 180°C (356°F) when Nap-GardHigh Tg 7-2555 is used incombination with Axalta’s mostrecent dual layer system Nap-Gard 7-2675. The second layerensures enhanced chemicalresistance and decreased waterpermeability. Currently, Nap-Gard7-2555 is approved by operatingcompanies in Colombia,Venezuela and Mexico. It is nowbeing used on a 50-km project inMexico. The new Nap-Gardproduct builds on the earliergeneration Nap-Gard 8-2535,

which was indicated for operatingtemperatures up to 135°C(275°F).

Innovative DURANAR specialitycoatings by PPG

A new flyer describes thetechnically and environmentallyadvanced Duranar formulations.Titled Duranar CoatingInnovations, the one-pagedocument provides a quickoverview of Duranar VARI-COOLcoatings, which combinepolychromatic pigments withproprietary ULTRA-COOL infrared(IR)-reflective coating technologyby PPG. These coatings add anaesthetic and energy-savingdimension to metal roofs and wallpanels by shifting colour whenambient light conditions andviewing angles change, and byhelping buildings to use less airconditioning by deflecting solarheat. The flyer also containsinformation about Duranar pearl,Duranar textured powder andDuranar patterned-effect coatings.Duranar pearl coats give metalsurfaces a 3D look by mixing

shimmering effect pigments intothe clear coat layer instead of thewhite, ivory or beige-colouredbase layer. Duranar texturedpowder coatings achieve adistinctive salt-and-pepperappearance in a range of colors, while providing the hardness andsolvent-free, low emissions ofpowder coatings. Duranar liquidpatterned-effect coatings areengineered to replicate the lookof exotic metal finishes withoutthe high cost associated withthose products. Readers also canlearn about the ‘green’ andperformance advancementsassociated with next-generationDuranar coatings made with lead-free pigments. Available in brightoranges and yellows, thecoatings are shown in panelphotos that highlight theirvibrancy and colorfastness afterfive years of South Floridaexposure testing for heat, humidity and sunlight.
