Airtel is credited with pioneering the business strategy of outsourcing all of its business operations except marketing, sales and finance and building the 'minutes factory' model of low cost and high volumes. The strategy has since been copied by several operators.[7] Its networkbase microwave links, etc.is maintained by Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networkwhereas IT support is provided by IBM,[9] and transmission towers are maintained by another company (Bharti Infratel Ltd. in India).[10]Ericsson agreed for the first time to be paid by the minute for installation and maintenance of their equipment rather than being paid up front, which allowed Airtel to provide low call rates of 1/minute (US$0.02/minute).[11] During the last financial year (200910), Bharti negotiated for its strategic partner Alcatel-Lucent to manage the network infrastructure for the tele-media business. On 31 May 2012, Bharti Airtel awarded the three-year contract to Alcatel-Lucent for setting up an Internet Protocol access network (mobile backhaul) across the country. New structure to drive the next phase of companys growth

Creation of B2C and B2B business verticals for enhanced business efficiency and employee value

Transformation from a technology facing organisation structure to a customer facing one

Will provide enhanced empowerment to employees

New Delhi, July 7, 2011: Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, today announced a new organization structure for its operations in India and South Asia. The new structure, which will be effective starting August 1, 2011, is aimed at driving greater business and functional synergies, providing a common interface to customers, and creating a de-layered and more agile organization. In addition, the new structure will provide more meaningful, empowered roles and enhance employee engagement.

Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharti Airtel, said Bharti Airtel has always adopted transformational business models that have set the industry benchmark. As we move into the next phase of our growth journey, this new organization structure marks a major step towards building an organization of the future. Customers are at the core of our business and with this new structure we are proactively creating an integrated customer centric organisation. I am confident that this will provide us a solid platform to achieve our vision of making Airtel the most loved brand enriching the lives of millions.

The transformed organisation structure will have two distinct Customer Business Units (CBU) with clear focus on B2C (Business to Customer) and B2B (Business to Business) segments.

Bharti Airtels B2C business unit will comprehensively service the business units - Mobile, Telemedia, Digital TV, and other emerging businesses (like M-commerce, M-health, M-advertising etc). The B2C organization will consist of Consumer Business and Market Operations.

The Consumer Business group will lead the overall B2C strategy and will focus on customer experience, product and service innovation (including data, VAS, new products/services), and build an ecosystem around the B2C services. K Srinivas will lead this vertical as the President, Consumer Business.

Market Operations group will lead the go-to-market strategy. This vertical will take products and services to customers in South Asia with speed and efficiency. Market Operations will complement the Consumer Business by building a robust go-to-market ecosystem and leverage Bharti Airtels vast distribution reach. Market Operations in India & South Asia will be divided in three regions, each headed by an Operations Director: the North, East & Bangladesh operations will be headed by Ajai Puri; South & Sri Lanka operations will be headed by Vineet Taneja; and operations in the West will be headed by Raghunath Mandava (along with National Distribution portfolio).

The B2B business unit will continue its focus on serving large corporate and carriers through Bharti Airtels wide portfolio of telecommunication solutions. The B2B organization will continue to be led by Drew Kelton.

In their new roles K Srinivas, Ajai Puri, Raghunath Mandava and Vineet Taneja, along with Drew Kelton, will report to Sanjay Kapoor, CEO India & South Asia. Atul Bindal, who has successfully led the Mobility Business for over 2 years, will move into a role within the Group.

On 26 February 2013, Airtel announced that it had deployed Ericssons Mobile Broadband Charging (MBC) solution and completely modernized its prepaid services for its subscribers in India. As a part of the deal, Ericssons multi service MBC suite allows prepaid customers to have personalized profile based data charging plans. Prepaid customers will be able to customize their data plans across mobility, fixed line and broadband by cross bundling across multiple domains (2G, 3G, 4G/LTE & Wi-Fi). It will also offer flexible multi service charging in geographical redundant mode, making Airtel the first operator to implement geographical redundancy at such a large scale.] In May 2013, Bharti Infotel paid Rs 50,000 as compensation to a customer "for unfair trade practices". The customer alleged that the company continued to aggressively demand payment despite customer requests for disconnection of service. Airtel's initial corporate structure concentrated on the hierarchy of the operations inside the company as a whole. The structure depicted the corresponding operation/region of different in-charges and it didn't hold anyone responsible for each of its services. So, the company found it better to restructure its corporate hierarchy. The transformed organisational structure has two distinct Customer Business Units (CBU) with clear focus on B2C (Business to Customer) and B2B (Business to Business) segments. Bharti Airtel's B2C business unit will comprehensively service the retail consumers, homes and small offices, by combining the erstwhile business units - Mobile, Telemedia, Digital TV, and other emerging businesses (like M-commerce, M-health, M-advertising etc.). The B2C organization will consist of Consumer Business and Market Operations. On 18 May 2010, the 3G spectrum auction was completed and Airtel paid the Indian government

On 20 September 2010, Bharti Airtel said that it had given contracts to Ericsson India, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Huawei Technologies to set up infrastructure for providing 3G services in the country. These vendors would plan, design, deploy and maintain 3GHSPA (third generation, high speed packet access) networks in 13 telecom circles where the company had won 3G licences. While Airtel awarded network contracts for seven 3G circles to Ericsson India, NSN would manage networks in three circles. Chinese telecom equipment vendor Huawei Technologies was introduced as the third partner for three circles. + On 24 January 2011, Airtel launched 3G services in Bangalore, Karnataka its largest circle by revenue. The Kolkata launch was followed by launches in Bangalore (7 May 2012),] Pune (18 October 2012)] and, Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula (25 March 2013) Airtel plans to provide voice services for its TD-LTE subscribers through its existing GSM network, which would make it the only operator in India to combine voice with TD-LTE services through GSM network. Airtel selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy its Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution in Airtels TD-LTE network in Pune. With CSFB, the network can transfer customers to GSM platform to make and receive voice calls while retaining the TD-LTE network for data services On 24 May 2012, Airtel announced an agreement to acquire a 49% stake in Qualcomm Asia Pacific's India entities, at an investment of 907 crore (US$165 million). Airtel bought 26% in Qualcomm Asia Pacific from Global Holding Corporation and Tulip Telecom and the balance 23% by subscribing to fresh equity of Qualcomm. Global Holding Corporation and Tulip Telecom had bought 13% each in the BWA entities for US$57.72 million (about 268 crore) in 2010. Qualcomm held 4G spectrum and licenses in Delhi, Haryana, Kerala and Mumbai. The deal gave Airtel a 4G presence in 8 circles.[38]

D Direct+ is a free Direct to Home (DTH) service that provides satellite television and audio programming to households and businesses in the Indian subcontinent. Owned by parent company Doordarshan, DD Direct Plus was launched on December 16, 2004.

It competes with cable television and other DTH Service providers such as Dish TV, Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Airtel digital TV and Big TV throughout India.

The total capacity for DD Direct+ is 59 television (Still 2 channels is Empty) and 21 radio channels. The spelling, spacing and capitalisation of channel names are as found on http://www.ddinews.gov.in/DTH unless an explicit reference is given otherwise.

Doordarshan, the national broadcaster in India, at present has a network of more than 1400 transmitters spread throughout the country and its signals are available to about 90% (DD1) and 43% (DD-News) population of country. The prime duty of any national public service broadcaster is to make the programmes of national importance available to all its people and nationals. It was estimated that the coverage of remaining 10 % population with terrestrial (single channel) broadcast would cost enormously. Besides that, setting up of terrestrial transmitters in the uncovered areas would have taken a number of years (10 to 15 years). Also, operation of terrestrial transmission would have required a huge manpower (a few thousand persons).

With the fast developments taking place in Satellite Broadcasting, it is but natural that Doordarshan has also come up with an alternative to get the required reach with an alternate technology option Ku-band broadcasting which is envisaged for the coverage of remaining population. This is a much cheaper and economical option as compared to the coverage through Terrestrial transmitters.

Ku-band transmission will provide coverage in all uncovered areas including remote, border, tribal, hilly and inaccessible areas in one go within a short time. With this coverage, the national broadcaster proposes to meet its obligation of covering the whole nation and its people not only with national channels, but also make available popular Doordarshan and some other free-to-air channels on its platform. In order to meet its obligations, it has also been decided that 10,000 receive systems (Dish and Set Top Box) would be provided free of cost at public institutions like Anganwadis, Schools, Public Health Centres, Panchayats, Youth Clubs, Cooperative Societies etc. in the uncovered areas.

52

It may be pertinent to mention here that incidentally Doordarshan would be starting DTH service with Ku band broadcasting as not only uncovered areas are covered with its commencement, but also the whole country gets multi-channel service in one stroke. The signal will be available at each home directly without the use of any cable etc. and one will be able to receive the programmes with the help of a small Receive segment.

RESEARCH METHODOLO GY 54 RESEARCH METHODOLOGYThe Direct To Home market in India is growing at a fast pace and the number of active subscribers in the country is expected to reach 42 million by 2012 end. The last five years have witnessed rapid growth in subscriber base for DTH as is obvious from the fact that in 2005, Dish TV was the lone player in the market in which today more than 10 DTH service providers are operating. The Government is providing ample support to the DTH sector in the country, and this has encouraged newer players to However, with the stiff level of competition from the existing multi-channel cable network and upcoming technologies including IPTV, players need to be consistently innovative.

The report Assessment of the DTH Market in India' highlights key trends emerging in the market along with initiatives being taken by the major service providers. The current market scenario and future prospects of the sector has also been examined along with the regulatory environment. 55 SAMPLING AND SAMPLE DESIGNDetermining the population targeted is the first step in selecting the sample. This may sound obvious and easy, but is not necessarily so. For instance, in surveying "hotel guests" about their experiences during their last stay, we may want to limit the term to adults aged 18 or older. Due to language constraints, we may want to include only those guests that can speak and/or read English. This more operational definition of population would be considered the "respondent qualifications". They make the research more doable, but also introduce delimitations of the studys scope.POPULATION: All items in any field of inquiry constitute a UNIVERSE or

POPULATION. A complete enumeration of all the items in the population is

Known as cesus enquiry .Thus population means the inclusion all the items in

The field of enquiry. Population can be finite if units can be counted or infinite. Since the present study is done in Bareilly, the population is finite.

SAMPLE; Sample means selection of few items as respresentatives of all the items

A part of the whole population is called :SAMPALE. Algebraically let the population

Size be N. and if a part of size n (which is
