Kinson - Commitment, Routes and RootsWelcome to Issue 6 which covers February, March and April 2017. Dates to remember include: Valentine’s Day (February 14th), Shrove Tuesday (February 28th), Spring begins (March 20th), Mother’s Day & British Summer Time (March 26th) and Easter (April 14th – 17th). The Kinson Village Voice, ably supported by the Kinson Business Forum, reaffirms its ongoing commitment to making Kinson great.
Blame the smugglers of Dorset for so many roads to Kinson. Yellow Buses have introduced new routes with many stopping close to our Village Green, making it ideal for shopping or visiting local venues. What isn’t changing is the professional
standards and care shown by their drivers who are a credit to us and to Bournemouth.
Long before slavery was ended Robert Williams aged 20 from Jamaica, was baptised in Kinson church in 1806. He fell in love with Sarah related to Joseph Mingo, a church official, and was married here in 1817. Their son Charles was baptised in 1828 and they lived in Longfleet and later West Howe. Robert’s lasting legacy is he achieved his objective and never gave in. Two centuries later, neither should we.

From Pancakes to Easter EggsPancake Day, a day that I loved as a child. In our family we never missed the great ritual of making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Growing up in a non-Christian family there wasn't much more to look forward to then except the chocolate eggs of Easter Sunday. But, since the age of 13, Easter just wouldn't seem quite as fulfilling if I was to miss out on the season of Lent that begins the day after Shrove Tuesday. The word Lent comes from the Latin meaning “to lengthen.” Probably because during spring the sun takes a little longer each evening to set. With this, the weather grows warmer, and life starts to emerge once more. But Lent is a messy season. Winter brings with it chilling winds that push things over, mess things up and even break things. Sometimes that's not a bad image of what life is like.
So Lent invites us to deal with the mess. Not to quickly clean up and pretend they were never there, nor by ignoring the mess. No, Lent invites us to roll up our sleeves and sort things out so we can enjoy life as God intended. And then as we near the end of Lent, we encounter Good Friday and in that moment we long for Easter. Easter Sunday reminds me that in the in the Kingdom of God, brokenness and death doesn’t actually have the last word; life does! Ash Wednesday, Lent and Good Friday teach us that Jesus' resurrection is something we desperately needed, for our broken selves and our broken world. Why not come along and join us at St Andrew's, Kinson as we prepare to celebrate Easter 2017.

North Bournemouth Area ForumThe North Bournemouth Area Forum holds its public meetings every 2 months. The next meeting will be on
thSaturday, 11 March at Howe Croft Community Centre starting at 10.00am. These public meetings are your opportunity, as a resident of Kinson North, Kinson, South or Redhill and Northbourne council wards, to hear what is happening in your ward and interact with the council.
Recent meetings have covered road safety, improvements to Kinson Village Green, Dorset Youth Offending Team and neighbourhood planning. Local police attend the meetings and the ward councillors are in attendance and available to discuss any concerns. On
th11 March the meeting will be hearing about the new household waste collections that are being introduced at the start of April.
These meetings form a link between local people and the Council and provide an opportunity to influence decision making at a local level. Local communities can air their views and put forward their proposals for the area and can review council decisions, making sure they are part of the consultation process.
If you have an issue that you would like to raise through the Forum you can contact them via [email protected] or by post via Kinson Community Centre.
