with gratitude
Thank you for a fantastic festival season!
We appreciate your support of the 42nd Annual Atlanta Jazz
Festival and are honored to be the keepers of this proud
tradition. It is with great pleasure that we provide this platform
for both aspiring and renowned musicians, as well as provide
this rich cultural experience for residents and visitors.
This year the Atlanta Jazz Festival presented an exciting and diverse
array of jazz talent on three stages in Piedmont Park throughout
the festival weekend, including a stage dedicated to celebrating
our own local jazz musicians. With 31 Days of Jazz, we presented or
partnered in 52 different jazz events throughout the month of May.
We simply could not have made this happen without the
support of Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the Atlanta City
Council, our sponsors, media partners, Atlanta Jazz Festival,
Inc. Board of Directors, AJF Society Members, 31 Days of Jazz
Entertainment Partners, OCA staff members, festival crew, and
our festival patrons. To every single one of you: thank you!
We were honored to present the 42nd Atlanta Jazz Festival with
your support. We look forward to continuing to entertain aficionados
and expose new listeners to the rich heritage of Jazz music.
Yours in Jazz,
Camille Russell Love
Executive Director,
Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs
City of Atlanta

aboutAtlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the
largest FREE jazz festivals in the country. An
annual celebration of the music, culture and
art of jazz begins in May and culminates each
Memorial Day weekend, with an outdoor festival
featuring jazz artists from all over the world.
Atlanta Jazz Festival (www.atlantafestivals.com) is produced by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s
Office of Cultural Affairs (www.ocaatlanta.com).
It is FREE and open to the public. Atlanta Jazz
Festival is funded through the support of the
City of Atlanta, corporate sponsorships, as
well as Atlanta Jazz Festival, Inc., a non-profit
entity dedicated to preserving the legacy of the
Atlanta Jazz Festival.
missionThe mission of the Atlanta Jazz Festival is to
expose and entertain a diverse audience of Jazz
aficionados, young Jazz enthusiasts and aspiring
musicians to the rich heritage and variety of
Jazz as an authentic form of American music.

The Atlanta Jazz Festival kicked off its 42nd year of free jazz concerts in Piedmont
Park over Memorial Day Weekend, May 25 – 26, 2019. The festival is grateful to
hold space for talented artists and dedicated patrons year after year. Jazz is a
musical genre that can get overlooked, and this festival strives to show younger
generations how truly innovative jazz is and how it influences the music of today.
Leading up to Memorial Weekend, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs
scheduled 31 days of jazz performances throughout metro Atlanta. Various
local jazz artists performed at MARTA train stations, on top of Colony
Square’s helipad for Jazz in the Sky, in museums, restaurants, lounges, airport
atrium, local public parks for the Neighborhood Jazz Series and more.
The festival in Piedmont Park featured three stages: the Park Drive
Stage, the Oak Hill Stage and the Meadow Stage. Chad Radford
writes of the lineup in his May 19, 2019 Creative Loafing piece:
“A quick scroll through the festival’s lineup reveals a curious mix of performers
spread across three stages throughout the weekend. Composer and trombonist
Delfeayo Marsalis — brother to Wynton, Branford, and Jason — shares billing with
Chicago-based drummer, producer, and winner of Jazz FM 2019 International
Jazz Act of the Year award Makaya McCraven. Gospel and jazz vocalist Lizz
Wright, vibes player, composer, and two-time Thelonious Monk Institute
National All-Star Joel Ross, and Nashville-based singer and pianist Kandace
Springs represent a bold push and pull between musical styles, creating a
festival dynamic where individual strengths are truly the star of the show.”
