Project Overview

Limitations

• The Project was a firm-fixed price bid. According to Multnomah County, the government entity responsible for the bridge, Omega Morgan’s solution saved millions of dollars by reducing up to a year of construction time for the new bridge.

• The Bridge’s Main Contractor (Slayden / Sundt) hired Omega Morgan to relocate the bridge so it could remain open to traffic during the construction of a new $308 million bridge.

• The Bridge’s location provided significant additional challenges given surrounding infrastructure (both public and private.)

• The project required minimal traffic disruption.

Engineering & Planning

• Physical Characteristics • 1,100 Feet Long • 3,400 Tons • 87 years old

• Site Characteristics • Intruding surrounding infrastructure • Unstable ground causing existing bents to fail • Critical bridge construction timeline and required minimal traffic

disruption (less than five day shut down) • Winter job schedule; potential for rain, snow or ice

• Job Schedule • Job was completed on time and ahead of schedule (5 days closure

planned, 4 days utilized.)

• Demonstrated Professionalism • Crews worked tirelessly in cooperation with public and private partners

and earned the award for the demolition of the relocated span.
