C I T Y & C O U N T Y
I moved to Oxford two years ago and the abundance of fantasticrestaurants to choose from never ceases to amaze me.
Oxford, as a city, is defined by the colleges, the culture and ahistory which is second to none.
To spend a day in Oxford enjoying a stroll around a picturesquecollege, followed by some punting and then a coffee in a smallcafé is my idea of heaven, but being able to round the day offin one of the many excellent restaurants Oxford has to offermakes the day perfect.
But don’t feel limited to the city centre. If you’re visiting Oxford, why not extend your stay and make sure you sample one of thesuperb restaurants beyond the city walls.
With many a short taxi ride away, you can immerse yourself inrural Oxfordshire and see why our beautiful county is not onlyan attraction to visitors from afar, it’s also a wonderful place tolive.

Oxford is one of the world’s great cities. Its rich culture, built oneducation, art, music and literature, makes it a wonderfuldestination for visitors.
The character and appeal of Oxford are formed by one otherimportant aspect of its culture – fabulous restaurants. From therelaxed café scene in Jericho, to cosmopolitan dining in EastOxford, the city now boasts an outstanding restaurant sectorthat serves all tastes and budgets. And whilst there is noshortage of sophisticated dining destinations in the bustling city-centre, you could escape the city boundaries and visit agastro-pub in an idyllic rural location.
Oxford also offers much for those whose interest in food anddrink extends beyond restaurant dining. Through OxfordGastronomica, a specialist centre for the study of food, drinkand culture, you can achieve culinary enlightenment byattending public events, following educational programmes andinteracting with leading food writers, broadcasters and chefs.
So make the most of this amazing city and let its restaurants, pubs and bars shape your experience.

Mal life. You've been bad. Very bad. All those second rate restaurantswith the third rate service wont help you now. This time you're goingdown. Down to the Mal that is. Guilty as charged. The door slams behindyou. There's no turning back now. Sure you'll have privileges. Divinedining in the form of simple British classics, on ingredients that our Chefshave hunted high and low for but never too far away, to bring the region'shidden food secrets to your table. Whether it's kippers smoked from thathard to find coastal hideaway or the to-die-for crumbly cheese from anearby family run dairy. We love it and embrace it 110%. You can tastethe difference too. With this in mind, we have launched an approachcalled 'Daring to keep it local'. These menus, in partnership with ourtreasured secret suppliers, are quite possibly the best we've producedever. Prison food has never been so good you think as you browse themenu. The local food heroes of Oxfordshire have done you proud. Theinmates at the other tables couldn't agree more and there's always achance to escape to the rooftop terrace for a little alfresco dining exercise.Being found behind bars has it's benefits. Any last requests?

When we opened Pierre Victoire in 1996 we wanted to createsomewhere for people to enjoy authentically cooked, traditional dishes inan informal environment at reasonable prices, the way the French do…Sixteen years on, and we’re still doing just that – and we’re busier thanever!
Our team of chefs, led by Pascal Bouchet, have earned high praise fortheir signature dishes such as Duck Confit, escargot, moules-frites,tartiflette and fondue savoyarde. And the restaurant itself is certainlyinformal with its rustic furniture and candles, but our customers love it,and most are regulars.
Eat from £6.90 at lunch time, and in the evening choose from the à lacarte menu or one of a number of prix fixe menus, such as thepre-theatre menu which offers 2 courses and coffee for £10.50. Forgroups and parties of up to 60 wanting to celebrate a birthday orgraduation, we offer several 2 and 3 course menus starting at £17.50.We also have a special three course a la carte menu, Sun to Fri, £21.00.

The modern French menu at Raymond Blanc's two-Michelin starred LeManoir aux Quat'Saisons restaurant has been described as 'a twist ofimaginative genius' and the cuisine is undoubtedly the focus of everyguest's visit. Le Manoir has retained two Michelin stars for 27 years.
The quality of the food stems from the freshness and purity of itsingredients. The two-acre kitchen garden produces 90 types of vegetableand over 70 varieties of herb, which are used in Le Manoir's kitchen.Raymond Blanc has been a champion of the organic movement for thelast 20 years and comments 'flavour alone would be a reason to buyorganic food, quite apart from its freedom from additives'.
Gary Jones, who trained with Raymond, became Executive Head Chef inAugust 1999. "Gary is a brilliant leader and the most gifted chef I know.He has added another layer of strength to the team. So the adventuregoes on.", RB commented.
