Staff Writer“I think it certainly puts

Mount Olive on the map in terms of travelers.”

The comment was made by town manager Charles Brown concerning the new $5 million Sleep Inn & Suites on NC Highway 55.

T h e new four-s t o r y , 88-room hotel will open its door to the pub-lic for a two-hour grand opening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on August 30.

However, the new motel has been opened for several weeks.

“If you spend much time on the Highway 117 Bypass between here and Goldsboro or between here and I-40 and have a North Carolina license plate on your car then you are among the mi-nority,” the town manager

Staff WriterIt is Mount Olive’s tallest

and newest, state-of-the-art motel and the doors will be opened to showcase what is inside at a grand opening set for August 30 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.

It is the $5 million, four-story Sleep Inn & Suites, the facility now located be-hind the Southern Belle Restaurant.

The old, 1950’s era South-ern Belle Motel was leveled to make way for the new fa-cility.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting by the cham-ber of commerce will open the doors for the communi-ty to tour the 88 rooms and suites, meeting hall, and other attractions.

“We are extremely happy with our new motel and are excited to show it off,” said

company spokesman Steph-anie Kornegay.

She added, “We want to thank folks here for sup-porting us over the years and helping us to get the new motel up and run-ning.”

Ms. Kornegay said the large meeting room facility is being “well received”.”

Food and drinks will be available at the grand open-ing, and prizes will also be given away.

Ms. Kornegay said the rooms in the new facil-ity “exceeded our expecta-tions.”

“They are beautiful, com-fortable, and larger than normal hotel rooms,” she noted.

Ms. Kornegay said one of each of the hotel’s different rooms will be open for pub-lic viewing, and it includes the standard king room, the

honeymoon suite, and the two-room deluxe suite.

The hotel is a total of 88 rooms, 26 of which are suites. There is also a large breakfast and lobby area- comfortable and complete with a business center.

The fi tness center has machines, free weights, and

kettle bells.The large swimming pool

is also open and there is plenty of outdoor area to lounge or grill out.

Ms. Kornegay said the large meeting room facil-ity is big enough for most events.

Truckers will also fi nd

easy access, she said, due to a truck only parking area.

WiFi and a free hot break-fast with room, as well as a safe for personal valuables are also provided.

There is also a refrigera-tor and microwave in each room.

water and our equipment, but it is the loss of the time involved in put-ting it back. If someone goes in and

tampers with the line, it also causes problems for their neighbors, and we intend to prosecute when we dis-

cover it,” said Brown.Brown said he is currently look-

ing at ways to make the public more

aware of the issue and make sure ev-eryone is aware it is against the law and that the town will prosecute.
