SUMMARY OF OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 2005
1.0 EXPLORATORY/DRILLING ACTIVITIES In January, 2005 seven (7) Oil Producing Companies namely; Mobil, Chevron, NAOC, ELF, Pan Ocean, Addax and NPDC explored and drilled a total number of twenty five (25) wells. Out of these wells nineteen (19) were development, four (4) were appraisals, while the remaining two (2) were Work-over and Exploratory wells respectively. Of these development wells, seven (7) were completed; five (5) were in drilling progress while seven (7) were suspended due to community problems. Out of the four (4) appraisal wells three (3) were abandoned, while one (1) was in drilling stage. Two (2) other wells which were Work-over and exploratory, were in drilling progress. (See Table 1).
2.0 CRUDE OIL AND CONDENSATE
2.1 Production: Total Crude Oil and Condensates produced in January, 2005 were 74,456,221 barrels or 2.402 million barrels per day (mbd). When compared with December, 2004 production of 73,395,382 barrels, there was an increase of 1,060,839 barrels or 1.45%. Of all the Crude Oil and Condensates produced, Bonny Light production was the highest amounting to 15,463,732 barrels or 498,830 barrels per day, which is 20.77% of the total production. Forcados Blend production rank second with 12,779,524 barrels or 412,243 barrels per day, which is 17.16% of the total production. 2.2 Liftings (Domestic and Export): The total Crude Oil and Condensates lifted for domestic purposes and export in January, 2005 was 76,225,124 barrels, which averaged 2.459 barrels per day but only 74,456,221 barrels were produced. The balance of 1,768,903 barrels were taking from the stock. When compared with the total liftings figure of 75,918,112 barrels in December, 2004 the quantity (76,225,124 barrels) lifted in January, 2005 shows an increase of 307,012 barrels or 0.40%.
2
The Joint Venture, Production Sharing, Service Contract and Independent/Sole Risk Oil Companies lifted 40,388,895 barrels or 52.99% of the total liftings for export. NNPC lifted 35,836,229 barrels or 47.01%. NNPC liftings were made up of 24,245,750 barrels exported for Federation Account and 11,590,479 barrels for domestic consumptions. The domestic allocation was made up of 5,983,056 barrels supplied to the local refineries and the balance of 5,607,423 barrels were exported on behalf of PPMC. Out of the 40,388,895 barrels exported by the oil Producing Companies; JVCs exported 34,549,627 barrels or 45.33%, Addax, a PSC, exported 615,245 barrels or 0.81% and Agip Energy and Natural Resources (AENR), a Service Contract Company exported 362,031 barrels or 0.47%. The balance of 4,861,992 barrels or 6.38% were lifted for export by the Independent/Sole Risk Oil Companies.
The lifting of NNPC was low when we consider the Production Sharing ratio of NNPC/JVCs. This was due to JVC alternative funding crude oil production from shell, Mobil and Elf in which the share of NNPC was very small (See Table 4)
2.3 Alternative Funding: In January 2005, 12,334,507 barrels were lifted by NNPC, Shell, Mobil and Elf. The three Companies lifted 10,437,128 barrels or 84.62% while NNPC lifted 1,897,379 barrels or 15.38%. See table below for explanation. Alternative funding crude oil lifting
