A Message from the Principal Dear Families,
National Reconciliation Prayer Creator Spirit,
All creation once declared your glory, Your laws were honoured and trusted,
Forgive us our neglect as our country approaches the most critical moment in its history.
Listen to our prayer as we turn to you, Hear the cry of our land and its people.
Just as you heard the cry of Jesus, your Son, on the Cross. Help us to replace our national shame with true national pride by
restoring the dignity of our First People whose antiquity is unsurpassed. May our faith and trust in you increase.
Only then will our nation grow strong and be a worthy place for all who wish to make their home in our land.
Amen. © Elizabeth Pike, September 1997
Aboriginal Catholic Ministry, Melbourne.
Last week, we celebrated Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School Feast Day. Our students and staff joined together Friday morning for a beautiful mass officiated by Bishop Charles Gauci, with the support of Father Dave Callaghan and Deacon Tony. Thanks to Mrs. Emma McDonald and our Mini Vinnies team for leading us in the mass. Following mass, students and staff joined together in a water slide and sausage sizzle.
To continue in the celebration of our feast day, Bishop Charles joined us at Sunday evening mass in our church. During mass, Bishop Charles invited us to pray the Lord’s Prayer in the language we first learnt. He shared afterwards that while we have many languages amongst us, we come together in one faith.
I wish to thank all those involved with National Reconciliation Week. An important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Special thanks to Jessica Musgrave, Maree Yoelu, Kerry McCarthy, Dean Chisolm and, Nova and Destiny Peris who took the time to share their stories through art, music and readings.
It is with great pleasure that we welcome and introduce to you Mrs. Ashe-Leigh Arrowsmith to the Holy Spirit teaching team. Ashe-Leigh will be teaching in Year 3/4, Room 17 for the remainder of the school year. Ashe-Leigh comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge and is looking forward to her time here with us. I know you will join me in welcoming Ashe-Leigh to the community of Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School is recognised as an exceptional school when it comes to pre-service teachers completing work placements. We welcome to our school community Kate Gonano, Bijou Daniels and Elle Rose Jarman who are currently completing their placement. Special thanks to Mrs. Mimi Woolley and Mrs. Fiona Bugden who have taken on the role of mentor to our student teachers. School Sport NT are hosting a Virtual Challenge for students in Years 4, 5 and 6 to find the quickest kilometre runners. The aims is for students to be active. While this is not compulsory we encourage all those interested to take part. Parents and staff are encouraged also to participate. Mrs. Shelley Murtagh is coordinating this great challenge so please do not hesitate in making contact with her as required. Each morning from 8:00am our school oval closest to the basketball court is open for students to train. With COVID and protocols in place we have had many events that we were required to postpone. In light of restrictions being lifted, events we hope can take place in Term Three. Please lock these dates into your calendar.

PASTORAL CARE AND WELLBEING
Dear Families,
Student, staff and family wellbeing is a focus and priority here at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. To keep you all informed, we are providing weekly updates regarding wellbeing, including support policy and procedures that we have in place here at Holy Spirit.
In November 2018, the Australian Government, in partnership with Beyond Blue, launched Be You, an online platform that provides educators with tools and strategies to support the mental health and wellbeing in our school. More information about this will be included in our newsletter each week.
Our Vision and Mission Statement is central to our school when implementing policy and procedures.
We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom teachers or members of our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Team for clarification.
Kind Regards,
Sinèad, Dell, Mary, Brittany & Paula Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Team
Holy Spirit Vision and Mission Statement Holy Spirit Catholic community is inspired by the gift of the Catholic story and tradition, encouraging all members to live, to love and to grow in Christ.
Holy Spirit Catholic School is committed to developing the fundamental value of each person. Through sharing and living the Catholic story and tradition, we foster learning that enables students, families, school and community to engage in a collaborative partnership for a life-long journey of education.
Our students learn in an atmosphere which integrates Gospel values with their life and learning. They are valued as unique individuals working to achieve their potential - spiritually, academically and socially.
Our teachers are committed to providing a quality Catholic education based on Gospel values in partnership with the parish and parents/carers. Their priority is to support students achieving their potential.
Update 3: Class Dojo Class Dojo is a resource used in all our classes to encourage and inform parent/carers of positive student behaviours. Through Class Dojo teachers are able to:
Acknowledge and encourage positive behaviour of students in their learning
Keep parents/carers informed and updated throughout the day
Provide a way for students to feel recognised and engaged in their learning
Communicate positive stories to parents/carers While Class Dojo focuses on acknowledging positive behaviour, there are occasions where this is used to remind and redirect students to make better choices. Classroom teachers will provide information as required regarding this. A copy of Holy Spirit Class Dojo Policy we have attached with our newsletter for you to read and be familiar. This has been ratified by our school board. We thank our parents/carers for positive communication in place with Class Dojo with our teachers. We remind our parents/carers that Class Dojo is a positive communication resource used by our teachers in our school. It is an opportunity to share good news stories. There are occasions where teachers and parents can communicate through Dojo, we remind that this is positive communication, or just to check-in for reminders or updates. A few reminders to assist when using this great resource:
Class Dojo is used to communicate to parents/carers
It is not used as a means of communication when sharing concerns or organising meeting times with teachers
Where you would like to meet with your child’s
classroom teacher we ask that you make an appointment to discuss. This can be arranged by calling or emailing your child’s class teacher.
Our staff will not respond to Class Dojo that does not support positive communication
A policy to support and identify how to be used will be sent to parents/carers early in the new term
In addition, we have provided through staff bulletin and school newsletter Code of Conduct for Parents/Carers.
We encourage all parent/carers to sign up for Class Dojo if yet to do so.

VACATION CARE
The Vacation Care form is now available from the front office, the OSHC building and on the school website. Download a copy here
This form is due back to the front office by 3pm, Friday the 12th of June.
Please note that the Australian Government’s Early Childhood and Education Care Relief Package (ECEC Relief Package) ends on Sunday 28th June 2020. From Monday 29th June 2020, Child Care Subsidy payment will resume.
Please be aware that when our Vacation Care service begins on Monday 29th June 2020, parents must pay gap fees for this service.
If you are eligible to receive payments from Centrelink, such as Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and Family Tax Benefit (FTB), you may be asked to provide your family income estimate for the 2020-21 financial year to Services Australia.
You will need to do this even though you aren’t currently paying child care fees. This is because Centrelink will use this estimate to work out how much CCS and FTB you will be entitled to.
To update your family income to ensure you receive Child Care Subsidy, please go to Services Australia website and update here .

Dear Families,
RE: Holy Spirit Colour Run We have postponed the Holy Spirit Colour Run and it will now be held on Friday 31st of July from 12:30pm on our school oval. This event is a major fundraiser for our school. All money raised from the colour run will be used towards our new bike racks and new taps and wash stations for our students. For every dollar raised the Catholic Education Office will match dollar for dollar up to $9,000. Children are to collect donations from friends and family members, as well as members of the wider community with your permission and consent. Your child today will receive a sponsorship form in week 8 which will provide all necessary details. We will begin fundraising for the event on Monday the 15th of June and the fundraising will remain open until July 31st. Once you receive your sponsorship form, go to schoolfundraising.com.au and create a student profile page. Everything to do with your fundraising revolves around this page. Once you have completed this, read through your sponsorship form, which has instructions on how to raise money as well as ordering prizes. If you have any questions, please contact the School Colour Run team on 1800 FUN RUN and they will gladly assist. Alternatively, please contact a member of our Wellbeing team. All staff will be present on the day to provide duty of care throughout the colour run. Families are welcome and encouraged to come along on the day. Thank you for your support and generosity. We look forward to this fun event. Kind Regards,
