Quartz Hill ride The pale blue line is the proposed trail and the red line is our ride line. I didn’t bring the map or have the trail in my GPS as it was a last minute decision to ride here. We had never been there so we wanted to check it out.

Photo below is of the current parking site. We were only able to safely fit in two horse trailers. The third vehicle with the ATV had to move the truck in order to leave space for people to drive past. The open meadow further to the south west may be a better option, but we did notice a large number of PVC pipe capped drill sites. The parking site is easier access then I previously thought, and the other lady who rode with us wants to keep going back as it’s only 12 miles from her house. The main issue is the space for trailers here.

Overall impression of the area. We tried to follow the proposed trail where possible, but there are areas where the lava under the grass were not suitable for the horses. We mainly ended up following the roads instead. Trail building here off the roads may be difficult due to the large amount of rock (both lava and other). We will go back and continue to scope the area and attempt to ride closer to the actual proposed trails. But based on what we saw the first time around, it may be that the equestrian would more likely use the existing two track roads within the area due to the issues with the lava rock. More on this area later.
