  • Feminism is a concept where you notice the prob-lems and harmful events faced by women which are caused by gendered practices.

To me, no matter what your sex is, when you care

to womens problem, then you are a feminist! 3

  • Historically, patriarchal

    system and gendered

    social order has op-

    pressed women for a

    long time. This realiza-

    tion that women are in

    disadvantaged in many

    aspects of their lives

    trigger the rise of femi-

    nism. Feminism exists

    because women want

    to challenge that no-

    tion (Lorber, 2005)

  • Based on the political goals, feminism is divided in-

    to three categories:

    1. Gender reform feminisms (liberal, Marxist, so-

    cialist, postcolonial)

    2. Gender resistance feminism (radical, lesbian, psy-

    choanalytic, standpoint)

    3. Gender rebellion feminism (multicultural, femi-

nist studies of men, social construction, post-

    modern, third-wave)

    (Lorber, 2005)

Another category of feminism is based on the time

    period:

    1. first-wave feminism

    2. Second-wave feminism

    3. Third-wave feminism

The idea of gender resistance feminism

lies on the patriarchal system. This

type of feminism believes that patriar-

chy is really hard to eradicate and

    therefore, women should create their

own space to be able to think and act

    freely.

    Contribution:

    The recognition of womens sexuality

    Various literature about women sub-

    ordination

    Creating women-only work-places,

    events and political organizations

    Intersectionality between gender,

    race, ethnicity, religion, social

    class, and sexual orientation be-

come the major theme for this type

    of feminism.

It is contended that gendered so-

cial order is not static but a dy-

    namic concept that constantly

    changes .

    Contribution:

    the recognition of intersectionali-

    ty

    Recognition of mens dominance of

other men as well as of women

The introduction of the concept of

    performativity, deconstruction,

    and queer theory
