SailDrives (SD) offer a highly efficient and comfortable Z-shape sailboat propulsion system for motoring while not under sail as alternative to standard shaftline solution.
ZF Marine has long standing experience with this type of propulsion system and its well-recognized advantages of excellent hydrodynamic efficiency and ease of installation that makes the saildrive the preferred solution, >90%, in the sailboat market.
Previous ZF SD portfolio covered engines up to 80HP (SD10 and SD12, ZF branded, or equivalent that ZF produces for main engine manufacturers)

• 110Hp@3200 (250Nm) rpm Saildrive transmission in Light Duty (charter/rental)
• Innovative technology: SD15 includes unique features like hydraulic clutches, integrated output shaft brake and oil cooling circuit trough the leg
• Market price is competitive with the overall market price of the shaft line alternative (prop shaft, struts, hull interface, increased labor time,...)
• Launched mid 2020, more than 70 units already in the field

Oil circuit force the oil circulation through the leg allowing natural heat exchange with the sea water

Main technical features: Integrated negative brake
When the diesel engine is off, the brake is keeping the output shaft blocked. This allow the foldable/feathering propeller to properly close and stay closed during sailing

• More compact for better engine room location/space
• No engine inclination
• More efficient (prop shaft @ 0°)
• More distance from the propeller to the rudder (less vibration, more comfort)
• Allows modern flat-body hull design (form stability)
• Propeller walk reduced
• C-configuration for additional weight balancing and space saving (especially for catamaran applications)

New built boat ZF SD15 power range is perfect fit for new built sailboats and catamarans from 50’ to 80’
Repowered boat ZF SD15 can be used for repowering a boat equipped with a smaller saildrive with minor hull/engine room
modification but can also be considered for repowering a shaftline with some additional hull/engine room rework
