structure

Goal: to build a 1:1 structure using only card×÷

board; no glue. Only securing methods used are

wedging and folding. The structure had to

reflect a concept and maintain structural

soundness. This structure was made out of many

intersecting triangles, deformed in different

ways but ultimately all elements originate from

a basic equilateral triangle.

The purpose of this assignment was to visit the

museum of modern egyptian art, and to formulate

a statement reflecting the modern egyptian man.

The concept was as follows: the disoriented

modern egyptian reacts to his heritage in

pursuit of self comprehension. The heritage in

this cardboard structure is the basic

triangualar shape, the disorientation is in the triangualar shape, the disorientation is in the

distortion of the triangle into different forms,

and the self comprehension is the entire

collective eperience.

This museum is a reflection of the statement: the disoriented modern egyptian reacts to his heritage in pursuit of selfcomprehension. The building begins inrigidity, symbolizing the heritage, and soon breaks off into a looser form; allowing the previously confinedallowing the previously confinedcladding to brake free from the structure. The building finally reaches a climax where the cladding breaks free completely from the structure and distorts the structure itself.

PAST IS PROLOGUE

The building is a symbol of the relationship between user and user, and between userand structure. Activities in the beginning are one sided. i.e. classrooms, lecture halls.

They become more interactive with painting workshops. and finally become a mixture of ideas and reactions in the graffitti halls and musi

Site boundaries used as grid for the community center, a method of maintaing harmony with the surrounding context.

An existing structure in old islamic cairo was studied and used to extract methods of environmental sustainablitiy. The project was to develop a community center attached to the community center attached to the old structure, study the external environemtn, and formalize forms sustainable implementation.

Islamic pattern used on facade. Solid and void areas alternate according to sun penetration.

germanyFor this project we had to design a pavilion that reflected the culture of a certain country. This pavilion was meant to be a product of inspiration retrieved from the country's culture, society, art, music, politics, food and fashion.

The purpose of the pavilion is to represent a clutlural progression in Germany. This originates clutlural progression in Germany. This originates from the industrial revolution and slowly morphs into a current representation of german culture which is evidently less uniform and structured than earlier years, the pavilion expresses this change, however it keeps the industrial aspect a constant through German culture.

Multi Skin Morphology: Badran's classification of activities into forms. Functional skin: Orthogonal. Social Skin: Adaptable Geometry

Goal: To design a home inspired by an architect of choice. This home is inspired by the jordanian architect Rasem Badran. His work is a reflection of context and environment; harnessing the surroundings of the site and integrating it within the form and function. This home is located overlooking Allocated overlooking Al-Azhar; a location with vivid islamic architectural heritage.

The courtyard is an adaptation of the islamic octogonal shape; the core is where all activities and forms originate. The combined forms produce forms produce the hexagon.

Badran incorporates sustainable features to enhance the surrounding environment. The courtyard within this home allows for suction of cold wind and transfering it to cool down the exposed courtyard. down the exposed courtyard. This negative pressure also cools down the spaces around the core.

La Vie BohemeBOHEMIANISM is the practice of an unconventional livestyle, involving musical, artistic or literary pursuits. Bohemians can be wanderes adventurers or vagabonds.

Mission: To design a home for a family adopting a certain unique lifestyle. Whereby the architect must accomodate for their alternative ways of living; adopting different spatial solutions, and using the home as a way of enhancing their activities.

In Egypt today, many people are getting caught up in the world of techonology, leading to a diversion from creative aspects. This family will be an example of what is missing in our society; a representation of a more humble approach to living
