Message from the PresidentThis past month Zane Grey Chapter and theArizona council have been involved with anumber of projects We delivered eggs to most ofthe 33-Arizona schools participating in the Trout-In-the-Classroom program We helped ArizonaGame and Fish stock Gila trout in the West Forkof Oak Creek and some of us even managed toget up to the San Juan River for some fishing
November promises to be busy with continued delivery of trout eggsto the rest of the Trout-In-the-Classroom schools a council wideplanning session and a Cast and Blast event with Arizona legislatorsat the end of the month These legislative meet and great events arealways a great opportunity to get to know our elected officials in a

On October 25th 26 volunteers from the Zane Grey TU Chapter andother conservationists assisted the AZGFD in stocking 1000 Gilatrout in 35 miles of the West Fork of Oak Creek
A big THANK YOU to those carrying the 40 pound backpacks to placethe trout in the stream - especially to the remote parts of the creek

Changes to the Wild Trout Challenge
The AZGFD is temporarily suspending therequirement for anglers to catch a Gila trout in order
to complete the Wild Trout Challenge
With the closure of Frye Creek there is no longer a wild populationof Gila trout open to fishing
Salt River Beautification Cleanup Another Success
To celebrate National Make a Difference
Day on October 28th ZGTU volunteers joined JustServe and theTonto National Forest Service to clean and beautify sections of trailsand banks along the Salt River
ZGTU coordinators David Mayl and Linda McAteer reported lots ofvolunteers from various organizations and BIG piles of trashrecovered

Teacher Receives State Award

Angela has been a great advocate for the program at the SheaMiddle School in Phoenix and a presenter at the TIC workshops andother conservation events Congratulations Angela
Other news this past month has been schools reporting lots ofexcitement - the eggs are hatching
On September 20th eggs were delivered to the various schools inthe Phoenix metro plus Flagstaff Tucson Morenci Nogales andwestern Arizona

Conservation License PlateSupports TU Programs
The Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife Conservation (AZSFWC) licenseplate fund is derived from the sale of wildlife conservation licenseplates and member organizations as well as non-memberorganizations are eligible to apply for those funds
The Arizona TU Council and Chapters have received funds over thepast seven years in support of the Annual Native and Wild TroutConferences and the Trout-In-the-Classroom programs The next time your registration comes up for renewal choose theconservation license plate option at registration to show your supportfor conservation and our projects

More than 750000 comments were submittedduring the comment period to send a message(again) that protections are necessary for this landand watershed

The AZGFD is temporarily suspending therequirement for anglers to catch a Gila trout in order
to complete the Wild Trout Challenge
With the closure of Frye Creek there is no longer a wild populationof Gila trout open to fishing
Salt River Beautification Cleanup Another Success
To celebrate National Make a Difference
Day on October 28th ZGTU volunteers joined JustServe and theTonto National Forest Service to clean and beautify sections of trailsand banks along the Salt River
ZGTU coordinators David Mayl and Linda McAteer reported lots ofvolunteers from various organizations and BIG piles of trashrecovered

The Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife Conservation (AZSFWC) licenseplate fund is derived from the sale of wildlife conservation licenseplates and member organizations as well as non-memberorganizations are eligible to apply for those funds
