Yuletide FavoritesVol. I

This collection is the result of many requests for appropriate arrangements in barbershop style of favorite Christmas songs. We know you will enjoy singing them.

The origin of many old songs, especially those that have been handed down over many generations, is shrouded in the mists of time. Exact dates of composition are frequently unknown. Often the words, or the music, existed independently before the song in its present form was compiled. Some song texts are from ancient Latin hymns, while many are of 17th or 18th Century French, German, or English origin. Many times the texts have gone through multiple translations to arrive at their present form. If there is more than one musical setting of a text, we have used the one most familiar and beloved.

The editors have attempted to identify sources of both words and music, often written many years apart. The dates under individual song titles refer to the first appearance of the words and the music or to the first publication of the complete song.
