An incredibly simple move with an incredibly cool effect. Definitely learn this. You an

even use this move individually as an underpass that brings you back to the same

position, no matter what hold you are in. An infinitely useful trick.

    Step 1

Throw a trapeze. Then pluck the red string with your thumb.

    Step 2

Now you are going to pluck the new red string. Pluck it from

behind (the side closest to you; in other words don't reach aroundthe strings to pluck it) with your right hand pointer finger.

    Step 3

Next you are going to do an underpass-like move. Move your right

hand in the direction indicated by the blue arrows. However, you arenot going to make the red string go into the groove of the yo-yo.You are going to make it go on the inside, closest to you. In case

you are wondering, the red string is the string segment that isattached to the yo-yo.

    Step 4

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    2/32

Continue the circling motion, making sure not to thread the redstring into the yo-yo gap. Remember, it goes between your body and

    the yo-yo.

    Step 3

You will now be back in Step 3. You can repeat Steps 3 and 4 over

and over and over and over....

Even though I illustrated this trick, you really have to watch the video to see how it issupposed to be done. This trick is done mostly alpha style -- something that these

illustrations cannot capture. This trick is actually a combo, but the way it flows togetheris just awesome. Enjoy! Thanks to Doc Pop for teaching this to me.

    Step 1 - Trapeze

Start with a Trapeze, you are now going to do a reversesomersault. When you do this somersault, you will have to turn

your right hand sideways (green arrow). To get to the position of

the somersault, move your hand in the direction of the bluearrow.

Step 2 - Reverse Trapeze Somersault

Do a reverse somersault by moving your right handin the direction of the blue arrows. When you do

this, you will flip the yo-yo in the direction of the

orange arrows. You should end up back in aTrapeze.

    Step 3 - Lindy Loop

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    4/32

After the reverse somersault, your hand can return tonormal trapeze position. Now you are going to do a lindy

loop. The yo-yo should have some momentum from the

somersault, and will continue to go in the direction of theorange arrows.

    Step 4 - Lindy Loop

    Continue the Lindy Loop...

    Step 5 - Lindy Loop

    Continue....

    Step 6 - Lindy Loop

Now reverse the lindy loop back to a trapeze.

Step 7 - Unwind Lindy Loop

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    5/32

    Continue reversing it...

Step 8 - Unwind Lindy Loop

Continue reversing it until you get back into a trapeze.

Step 9 - You're Back to Trapeze, Do a Somersault

Now turn your right hand as shown (green arrow). Andmove your right hand over your left.

    Step 10 - Somersault

    Do the somersault...

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    6/32

    Step 11 - Somersault

Continue the somersault and you will be back to trapeze.

    Step 12 - Somersault

Now, with the momentum of that somersault, the yo-yo will

continue the path of the orange arrows, into a reverse lindyloop.

Step 13 - Reverse Lindy Loop

Step 14 - Reverse Lindy Loop

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    7/32

When you land the reverse lindy, land it on both the strings (red

    strings).

Step 15 - Reverse Lindy Loop, Unwind

Now, you are going to undo the lindy loop...

Step 16 - Unwind Reverse Lindy Loop

    Continue unwinding the lindy loop

Step 17 - Unwind Reverse Lindy Loop

Continue unwinding back to trapeze. Now you are going to

go back into a lindy loop

    Step 18 - Go back into a lindy loop...almost

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    8/32

You will now do a lindy loop and "miss" on purpose.

Remember to turn your right hand (green arrow).

    Step 19 - Go back into a lindy loop...almost

    Continue the lindy loop...

Step 20 - Miss the lindy loop on the outside

Now, you are going to do a "propellor" type move, where you swing the yo-yo in front of the string in a full

    circle.

Step 21 - Land the Missed Lindy Loop

You are now going to land the yo-yo on the red string. The

green arrow indicates the string should be twisted around your

    left pointer from Step 20.

Step 22 - Reverse into Trapeze

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    9/32

Dismount and reverse the missed lindy loop into a trapeze.

Step 23 - Reverse into Trapeze

    Continue unwinding back to trapeze.

Step 24 - Reverse into Trapeze

    Continue back to trapeze

Step 25 - Reverse into Trapeze

After you finish the motion to the right, you will be back ina trapeze!

    Side Maneuver

Practice this move to help hone your trapeze skills. This picture is shown as if you were

    looking in a mirror.

    Step 1

Start with a trapeze mount. Once mounted, turn your right hand

so it is pointing you. You may have to bend your elbow.

    Step 2

The picture to the right shows the right hand yo-yo finger

pointing towards you (remember, this trick is shown as if

you were looking in a mirror. So your right hand is shown as

the left hand in the picture. Confusing, I know -- but only fortext descriptions.). Now move your right hand in the

direction of the arrow: over your left hand.

    Step 3

You will now be in this position. Although I did not draw it, your rightarm would be going in front of the strings hanging down. Now, move

your right hand in the direction indicated by the blue arrow.

    Step 4

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    11/32

Don't be intimidated by the picture. All you are

going to do is a somersault by pushing your right

hand pointer finger against the mess of hangingsstrings. When doing this somersault, however, just

give the yo-yo a push and let it flip over.

In this picture you see the right hand to the left ofthe left hand. When you end, you want the right

hand to the right of the left hand. This sounds

confusing but its not. Just think of it as "I want to

flip the yo-yo to the other side of my right hand."

Preform the flip of the yo-yo by using your right

pointer finger and following the blue arrows.

    Step 5

You will now be in a trapeze position with your wrist bent towards you.

    Step 6

Stick your pointer finger out on your left hand. Now it is time to

roll the yo-yo out into a reverse one and a half mount. Move your

left hand down and to the left. This is shown by the blue arrow.

    Step 7

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    12/32

The yo-yo should begin to roll out and follow a pathsimilar to that of the orange arrow.

    Step 8

The yo-yo will wrap around your left hand pointer

finger. At this point you may retract your middle

finger on your left hand. The yo-yo should continuecircling until it touches the red string segment as

    indicated by the orange arrows.

    Step 9

The yo-yo will continue finishing the reverse one and a

half mount and stop where the x is. To make room for

the yo-yo's landing, you may have to move your lefthand closer to your right hand.

    Step 10

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    13/32

Now you are in the reverse one and a half mount. You can now make

your right hand face forward instead of pointing at you (green arrowon the picture is meant to make you take note your hand is facing

away now). Move your right hand (the one with the green arrow) in

the direction of the blue arrow until you are prssing up against thestrings.

    Step 11

Now, you are going to perform a somersault. Thisone will go the opposite direction of the last one.

The concept is the same though. You want your

hand to end on the opposite side of where it startedby flipping the yo-yo over the hand. Do this flip by

pushing against the string in the direction of the blue

arrows. Stop at the blue X.

    Step 12

You should now be in this position. You can make your right hand

    face away from you again.

Note - at this position, your arms are crossed.

    Step 13

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    14/32

Now you are going to roll out the yo-yo. Start this rolling by

moving your left hand in the direction of the blue arrow. Pleasenote that your hands are crossed so if you are confused by the

picture then just naturally dismount. This is basically the end of

    the trick.

    Step 14

The yo-yo will roll out and you are done...well, maybe. If

you want to, you can repeat this trick over by sticking out

your middle finger, then rolling out to a trapeze and goingback toStep 1.

    Created by Sky Kiyabou

This trick was created by Sky Kiyabou sometime near the '99 Nationals. It's a pretty coollooking trick that is easy to do, so it definitely wouldn't hurt to add it to your list of tricks.I've heard this trick was called "Frog in a Bag," but I have been unable to confirm this.

    Step 1

Start with a simple bottom mount. Next you are going to do an

Oliver Twist motion. Follow the blue arrows as shown, bymoving your left hand in front of your right hand, causing the

string to twist around the yo-yo.

    Step 2

The green arrow indicates a mutation...that is, the string is

wrapped around the axle of the yo-yo.

Continue the motion of the blue arrow. You will eventually make

    a complete rotation.

    Step 3

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    16/32

    Continue the motion...

(Right now, you are in the Jedi Boing position.)

    Step 4

Continue the motion until you bring your left hand up to your right

    hand.

    Step 5

Cup both of your hands together as shown, and tug the yo-yo. This is almost

exactly like Stop and Go, but the string is twisted around the axle from theearlier steps. So, when you give a tug , the yo-yo will come up and stop in

    your hands.

    Step 6

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    17/32

The yo-yo is now stopped, it is no longer spinning. To revive the spin, pull your

hands in the directions indicated by the image. Your left hand goes up, and

right goes down. This, again, is like reviving the spin in Stop and Go.

    Step 7

Now, the yo-yo will be spinning in one place, in the middle of the strings.Move your hands in the direction of the blue arrows. You will then return to

Step 6. Repeat these steps as many times as you want. When you are ready to

end this trick, pull harder for Step 6 and skip to Step 8.

    Step 8

Just follow the blue arrows to dismount. You simply just unwind thestring from the yo-yo.

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    18/32

Mondial is a transition hop, sort of like Kwijibo has a hop from a one-and-a-half mount

to double or nothing. Mondial is done a little differently; it is done in front of you -- and

you can do it over and over.

    Step 1: Split-Bottom Mount

This Trick starts out utilizing a split bottom mount as shown. If youdo not know how to do this yet, visit Ken's World on a String. The

instructions for this mount is in the tricks section, under thecomponent's subsection, and under the link "Pull-over Split BottomMount."

    Step 2: Mach 5

After completing the split bottom mount, move your left hand

down and away from your body. This is standard procedure foran underpass used in tricks like Atomic Bomb/Atomic

Smasher, however you want to go farther out in this trick than

you normally would. Going farther important as you will see inthe next step. The red string in the picture is to show you that it

is coming from your yo-yo finger and going overthe pointer

    finger of your left hand.

Continue moving your left hand in the direction of the bluearrow as you proceed to Step 3.

    Step 3: Mach 5

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    19/32

After following the arrow of Step 2, you should arrive in the

position shown to the left. Note how low your underpass is (this part

may be tricky if you cannot aim your strings). It is ideal to have theyo-yo in the center of the strings coming from both hands. If not,

your hovering yo-yo (later on) will be off center and look rather

ugly! The red string (its one long piece with a piece hidden betweenthe yo-yo) in the picture is to simplify the image so you can tell one

string segment from the others (it also happens to be the same red

string as Step 2 - but do not assume all red strings in theseinstructions are the same string; they are never the same unless I

    say).

Follow the blue arrow (you are still carrying out your underpass)

with your left hand. If you are not familiar with underpasses, thetransition from Step 2 to 3 (and beyond) is done in one swift

circular-resembling motion; you should not stop in-between steps

    when performing.

    Step 4: Mach 5

If you followed the arrow correctly you will be in the position tothe right. Continue moving your left hand (remember, the left

hand in this picture is the one that is facing away) in thedirection of the blue arrow. Do not move your right hand.

    Step 5: Mach 5

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    20/32

If you followed the blue arrow and did not move your right hand,

you will end up in the position to the left. The red string is used

to clarify the picture and should be on the outside (the partfarthest from you) of your pointer finger on your right hand. You

have successfully completed the first underpass.

Observe that your right hand is about half way between the left

hand and the yo-yo and move on to Step 6.

    Step 7: Mach 5

The red line in this picture is not the same red line as in step 6,so do not get confused. The red string is just clarifying the

view and is not important to this step. Continue moving your

left hand in the direction of the blue arrow while keeping your

    right hand stationary.

    Step 8: Mach 5

After following the above steps correctly you

will arrive in the position to the left. The red

string segment, again, is only used to helpclarify the situation and is not the same as the

red string segment in any of the other steps.

Now, if you straighten out the picture to the left(by making the strings tighter - just pull up with

your right hand and down with the left) you will

get the position to the right.

As seen in the picture to the right, move bothhands simultaneously in the direction of the

arrows. It is important that when you move both

hands, they are exactly across from each other!

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    21/32

Note - This is why you wanted the yo-yo in the

middle in Step 3, and your hand in the middle in

Step 5. If they weren't your yo-yo may not becentered at this point! :)

    Step 9

Now that you are in a horizontal position, toss the yo-yo

up vertically. Do not try to pull the strings horizontally topop the yo-yo up; it usually doesn't work.

    Step 10

As the yo-yo is traveling up, your hands are going to switch

places. Your right hand will go over your left hand (this mayget trickier than you think because you must do it FAST). Move

your hands in the direction of the blue arrows as the yo-yo

    travels upwards.

It may be wise to keep an eye on the red string.

    Step 11

Continue switching positions.... your right hand pointer finger is goingto catch the red string.

    Step 12

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    22/32

If you caught the red string with your right hand finger, you should

be in this position. The yo-yo is going to fall on the red stringsegment between the hands, as indicated by the orange arrow.

Move your left hand up and right hand down if needed. You kind

of want your hands horizontally even for a split second as the yo-yo

    falls.

    Step 13

The yo-yo will continue to fall on the red string segment inthe left picture. You want to move your left hand up now so

that you recognize the next hold.

    Step 14

You are now in a split-bottom mount. You also, probably have

some string wrapped around the right hand pointer as well (notshown in picture). Don't worry, you can now go off and repeat this

trick or just finish off with an Atom Smasher or something.

    MJ(number unknown)

This trick originated somewhere in Japan (as far as I know). Hidemasa Senba does it in

the World Clip Video. There are 8 MJS (MJ1, MJ2...MJ8) and I have no idea what

    number this is.

If anyone else can provide more info on the origins of this trick, email me.

    Step 1

Start with a split bottom mount. You are pretty much going to

do the beginning of Mach 5, by doing an underpass with theleft hand. Do so by following the blue arrows with the left

    hand.

    Step 2

    Continue the underpass...

    Step 3

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    24/32

    Continue....

    Step 4

    Continue....

    Step 5

Up until this step, the procedure has been the same as Mach 5's. Now we aregoing to start the different steps. Notice the green arrow in the picture to the

left. Also, notice the red string that goes over the left index finger. You want to

stick your left thumb in that loop that goes over the left index finger. This willmake the red string drape over your index finger and thumb. If you still don't

understand, check out the next picture...

    Step 6

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    25/32

Notice how the string drapes over the left hand thumb and index finger.

Now, you are going to move your hand straight down, as the blue arrows

show. Your right hand pointer finger is going to catch on the red string

when you move your left hand down. This will occur where the greenarrow points, between the left hand thumb and finger.

    Step 7

    Continue moving your hand down...

    Step 8

When your left hand goes down as far as it will go, the yo-yo

will be "cupped" in the left hand as shown to the right. Youthen want to move/rotate your left hand out and in front of you.

You should end up in the position shown to the right, indicated

    by the faded out position.

    Step 9

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    26/32

Here is the last step. The yo-yo will still be spinning and it will

just be "hovering" in one place. Dismount however you like.

    Trapeze Pop-Ups

Eli Hops are really great. They're so simple, yet so fun. You basically start with a trapeze, pop the yo-yo high into the air, and land it back on the trapeze.

    Step 1

    First, start with a trapeze.

    Step 2

Next, pull your hands apart to pop the yo-yo in the

    air.

    Step 3

Immediately after you pull your hands apart, you need to movethem closer together. You can do this by moving either or both

hands. I find it better to move the left hand pretty much right

under the yo-yo (as seen in the picture) so that your hand and

    yo-yo are vertically aligned).

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    28/32

If you did not do Step 3

    correctly, your yo-yo will follow

the red arrow path on the above

    picture. Don't let this happen.

Give the string slack in Step 3 or

the yo-yo wont pop up, but

    rather to the left!

    Step 4

Now the yo-yo should be airborne, high in the air. Return it by

stretching your hands out to normal trapeze position.

    Step 5

You might have some trouble landing it back on the trapeze. Itjust takes a little practice. After landing the trapeze, go back to

Step 2 and repeat over and over.

Learn this move, you will love it!

    Created by Paul Sanders

Slinky is a cool trick, created by Paul Sanders, that looks much like you are doing infinite

underpasses. It isn't terribly hard to do, but it is one of those "fun tricks" like Boing-E-

Boingand Mach 5. I strongly recommend adding this trick to your repertoire.

    Step 1

Start with a Split Bottom Mount

    Step 2 - Chain Reaction

    Continue...

    Step 4 - Chain Reaction

    Continue

    Step 5

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    31/32

Push your left hand into the two back strings.

    Step 6

Now, move your right hand down and away from you until they areon the same horizontal plane.

    Step 7

Now your left and right hands are in the same horizontal

plane. Notice the red string segment. You are going to move

your left hand behind and below your left hand...to do this

move your right hand under the yo-yo. The red stringsegment is going to be put in the yo-yo gap. This is sort of

    like another underpass.

    Step 8

  • 8/7/2019 Yoyo String trick

    32/32

Look how the red string segment is threaded through the gap (the

yo-yo is resting on the 2 red strings). Now, move your right hand

up and over your left hand. When you do this, the yo-yo will fallonto the string that is between your left and right hands.

    Step 9

You should now be in this position. If you move your left hand

forward and hit the front string, and move your right hand back(both blue arrows), then you will be back to split bottom mount, and

you can redo this procedure as many times as you want
