GREY CUP TICKET SCAMS LEAD TO RCMP WARNINGS

cbc.ca - The hottest ticket in the province this week has fraudsters taking advantage.

There are still plenty of Grey Cup tickets for sale online, but RCMP are warning buyers to beware of potential scams and make sure any tickets they do purchase are real.

RCMP in North Battleford and Saskatoon say scammers are sur-facing online in advance of Sunday’s big game.

In some cases, the fraudsters

offer tickets online, ask for a money transfer, but never send the buyer tickets.

RCMP say other scammers com-plete a transaction with an online buyer, only to mail out counter-feit tickets.

The best way to avoid getting scammed is to buy your tickets directly from the CFL or Saskatchewan Roughriders web-site.

People who believe they have been a victim of a Grey Cup ticket scam are asked to contact police.

SELL-OUT LOOMS FOR GREY CUP IN REGINA

cbc.ca - As of late Monday afternoon, little more than 100 tickets — all singles — were still available for sale for the Grey Cup championship game on Sunday.

The tickets are being sold online through Ticketmaster, which listed the tickets avail-able in various sections of Mosaic Stadium, ranging in price from about $200 to about $400.

Many online commerce sites, such as Kijiji, have also been listing tickets for sale to the game — at inflated prices.

Typically there is a fluster of ticket activity the day after the conference finals when the competing teams are known and the fan base gets active to

follow their club. There could also be some

activity in Regina’s hotel mar-ket, as bookings from cities that did not win a berth, Calgary and Toronto, may become available. It may take some doing to find, however, as many locations also accept tentative bookings in the event of cancel-lations.

Flights into Regina have also been booked, months in advance, although the airlines have some flexibility to add ser-vice to match demand.

5. Eat one less biteDoing this at every meal could save about 75 calories a day which equates to nearly an 8-pound weight loss in one year!

6. Be a heavy drinkerWater is essential for keeping the body hy-drated and we’re actually more likely to retain “water weight” by not drinking enough of it rather than by having too much. The needs of each person will be different, but the general recommended daily amount is 64 ounces. It also takes up space in your stomach so you’ll feel fuller while taking in less calories.

This Day in HistoryNov 21, 1980:

Millions tune in to find out who shot J.R.

On this day in 1980, 350 million people around the world tune in to television’s popular primetime drama “Dallas” to find out who shot J.R. Ewing, the character fans loved to hate. J.R. had been shot on the season-ending episode the previous March 21, which now stands as one of television’s most famous cliffhangers. The plot twist inspired widespread media coverage and left America wondering “Who shot J.R.?” for the next eight months. The November 21 episode solved the mystery, identifying Kristin Shepard, J.R.’s wife’s sister and his former mistress, as the culprit. The CBS television network debuted the first five-episode pilot season of “Dallas” in 1978; it went on to run for another 12 full-length seasons. The first show of its kind, “Dallas” was dubbed a “primetime soap opera” for its serial plots and dramatic tales of moral excess. The show revolved around the relations of two Texas oil families: the wealthy, successful Ewing family and the perpetually down-on-their-luck Barnes family. The families’ patriarchs, Jock Ewing and Digger Barnes, were former partners locked in a years-long feud over oil fields Barnes claimed had been stolen by Ewing. Ewing’s youngest son Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Barnes’ daughter Pam (Victoria Principal) had married, linking the battling clans even more closely. The character of J.R. Ewing, Bobby’s oldest brother and a greedy, conniving, womanizing scoundrel, was played by Larry Hagman. As J.R. had many enemies, audiences were hard-pressed to guess who was respon-sible for his attempted murder. That summer, the question “Who Shot J.R.?” entered the national lexicon, becoming a popular t-shirt slogan, and heightening anticipation of the soap’s third season, which was to air in the fall. After a much-talked-about contract dispute with Hagman was finally settled, the season was delayed because of a Screen Actors Guild strike, much to the dismay of “Dallas” fans. When it finally aired, the episode revealing J.R.’s shooter became one of television’s most watched shows, with an audience of 83 million people in the U.S. alone—a full 76 percent of all U.S. televisions on that night were tuned in—and helped put “Dallas” into greater world-wide circulation. It also popularized the use of the cliffhanger by television writers. The shooting of J.R. wasn’t “Dallas’” only notorious plot twist. In September 1986, fans learned that the entire previous season, in which main character Bobby Ewing had died, was merely a dream of Pam’s. The show’s writers had killed the Bobby char-acter off because Duffy had decided to leave the show. When he agreed to return, they featured him stepping out of the shower on the season-ending cliffhanger, and then were forced the next season to explain his sudden reappearance. The last premiere episode of “Dallas” aired on May 3, 1991. A spin-off, “Knots Landing,” aired from December 27, 1979 until May 13, 1993. “Dallas” remains in syndication around the world.

Two cowboys are riding their hors-es together on the prairie. They

come upon a big pile of manure. The first cowboy goes to the second,

“I will bet you a $1000 that I can eat all of this crap.” The second cowboy agrees, so the first cow-boy eats the entire pile and wins

$1000.

The two cowboys ride on and after some time come across anoth-

er pile of manure. This time the second cowboy bets the first that he too can eat the whole pile for

$1000. The first cowboy agrees and the second cowboy eats the entire

pile and wins the bet.

They ride on again. After a while the first cowboy says to the second, “Do you realize that we just ate a

The huge college freshman decided to try out for the football team. “Can you tackle?” asked the coach. “Watch this,” said the freshman, who proceeded to run smack into atelephone pole, shattering it to splinters. “Wow,” said the coach. “I’m impressed. Can you run?” “Of course I can run,” said the freshman. He was off like a shot, and, in just over nine sec-onds, he had run a hundred yard dash. “Great!” enthused the coach. “But can you pass a football?” The freshman hesitated for a few seconds. “Well, sir,” he said, “if I can swallow it, I can probably pass it.”

Pulling into the crowded parking lot at the shopping center rolled down the car win-

dows to make sure my puppy hadfresh air. She was stretched full out on the

back seat and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there.

I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphati-

cally, “Now you stay. Do you hear me? “Stay! Stay!” The driver of a nearby car,

a pretty young lady, gaveme a strange look and said, “Why don’t

you just put it in park?”
