BEARING WITNESS TO THE FAITH OF A CHILD By Jessica Fraser Last summer Kristen Crossley, a Union County teacher, had a great summer while volunteering as a group leader for Music & Arts Camp for kids. Kristen’s husband Brad was singing in a group with Peter Leo, Director of Music and Worship Arts, in 2013 when the family originally decided to visit the church. Their oldest son, Ethan, participated in Don’t Miss the Boat – that summer’s Music & Arts Camp -- where Kristen loved the final performance. During her first time as a group leader for Unlikely Heroes in 2014, Kristen enjoyed fostering connections between the kids during lunches and fun activities like the scavenger hunt, where she learned fun biblical facts and became familiar with the campus. Kristen became friends with the Youth Leader in her group, Katie Verrill, who now attends the school where Kristen teaches. They wave and say “hello” in the hallways and look forward to teaming up again at camp this summer where Kristen’s youngest son, Logan, will get to participate for the first time. Kristen learned many lessons of her own as a leader, such as how to have fun like a kid and the joy of coming to Jesus like a child -- and was able to bear witness to the open and complete faith of a child. “You can make a difference in a child's life during one week,” she shared. “They may not remember your name but they will remember the experience of camp.” Kristen was moved by seeing the children’s faith as they interacted with each other. She recalls the kids going before God and having fun while learning and performing a musical together. Under God’s Sea in 3-D will be Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 10, 9 am – 4 pm. Registration is full but if you are interested in filling the last small group leader opening or to be one of the lunch helpers any day throughout the week, please contact Carrie Nelson at [email protected] or 704-815-1983. Thank you for your amazing response to our ReFresh and ReNew Campaign.

The final results of this campaign have provided pledged funding of $467,310 from 198 different families within our congregation. Two of the priority projects have already begun: The material has been ordered and a deposit made to update the interior of the elevator, and a new oven has been ordered to replace the one in the main kitchen that was in major need of repair. The Trustees

will be providing a recommendation to the Administrative Council on the next projects to be completed this year.

Thank you again for your generosity.
