GLOBEYour quarterly round-up of Goscor Group activities nationwide!
ISSUE 1 2019
It’s been an exciting and busy start to 2019 with quite a few exciting changes happening within the Goscor and Bud Groups.
A big congratulations goes out to our CEO, Neil Wilson for being appointed as the new CEO of Bud Industrial Services. This is a huge responsibility and we are so very proud of Neil.
This year is flying by with so much going on, it’s hard to keep up sometimes! A highlight for us since our last Globe was the making of Goscor’s very own rap song. We had great fun with some talented composers who created a vibey, funky song for us. This was performed live at the Joburg year end function. If you haven’t heard it yet, visit our YouTube channel.
Our events department has been diligently preparing for Nampo for the past few months and we are pleased to have secured Radio Raps as our personality on the stand this year. Be sure to tune into OFM and RSG to hear Goscor on radio!
On a personal note, I lost my Father at the end of February and just want to remind you that life is so incredibly short. We can get so caught up in our own lives that we might not remember the little things. So, always kiss goodnight, take that trip, eat the cake and make sure those close to you know how much you love them!
Now, please put your feet up, grab a coffee and enjoy reading about YOUR GOSCOR!

I am amazed once again at the resilience of our Goscor Group. The extremely tough economic climate in SA still did not prevent Goscor from showing growth in 2018. That is a great achievement, and a testament to the resilience of our businesses, the diversification of our portfolio of different companies, and of course the commitment and dedication of our staff to make it happen. Well done, we can all be truly proud of what we have achieved!
We are already well into our 5th trading month of 2019, and we all feel every day that the tough conditions have carried over from last year. However, I have new hope and optimism that, with elections just taken place, there is potential for better conditions in the second half of this year.
Many businesses have been playing a waiting game in the lead up to these elections. A waiting game where leaders have been cautious to commit to investing until we have more certainty around our future.
Leaders have been reluctant to make big decisions, to make any significant strategic shifts. Hopefully with the elections behind us we will see that change. The only way we are going to see an improved economy in South Africa is if the new government are able to create an environment of policy certainty and stability, which should lead to improved business confidence and a renewed commitment to investing in our country.
As you are aware, I have been asked to take on the additional responsibility of running Bud Industrial Services. This is a wonderful challenge for me which I am really excited about, and will entail me spending more time with our sister companies in the Group. I will however retain responsibility for Goscor, so I will still be around plenty to give guidance and assistance where I can. What is fantastic for me is that we have a wonderfulleadership team in Goscor, with great depth and in which I have HUGE confidence. All the Goscor businesses are in great hands.

s the 2019 school year commenced our team brought smiles to the faces of the pupils at Sparrows Foundation school by donating stationery to over 300 learners.
Late in 2018, Goscor Group hosted a golf day for our clients and over R8 000 was raised on the GCE-sponsored hole. The team decided that the funds raised would be better spent on buying stationery for children at the Sparrows Foundation.
This Donation is preceded by the huge contribution made by Goscor Group in October 2018 of R 180 000 which raised at this annual event.

COVER STORYLeading from the front
W
However, for a business to keep increasing its market share, its reputation should be of priority. Creating a good reputation takes time and effort, but it can be something that’s lost in an instant. It is something that we have always borne in mind at Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC).
Being a supplier of globally renowned forklift brands, complemented by the unparalleled service support that we offer across our southern African jurisdiction, has definitely set us apart. However, to keep ourselves at the top of the game, ‘continual
improvement’ is sought in every sense of the term. As part of that mission, GLTC recently became the first forklift company in South Africa to attain boththe ISO 9001: 2015 and OHSAS 18001 accreditations. This is a milestone achievement which showcases our uncompromising stance towards quality and
health & safety. Quality and health & safety have always been top priorities at GLTC and achieving the new milestones was no walk in the park – it took a lot of time and money. One may ask: why are these accreditations so significant to a company that’s already a leader in its business area.
These achievements represent a streamlined system, positive customer relationships, a name for innovation and a healthy and safe work culture.
GLTC Managing Director, Darryl Shafto, truly believes that being an ISO 9001: 2015 and OHSAS 18001 accredited company further secures our customers’ belief in us and sets us apart in the materials handling equipment industry. However, he emphasises that the attainment of these accreditations was no easy ride – it took a lot of hard work and long hours.
A very special thanks goes out to every one of the GLTC’s employees. Thank you for all your commitment and perseverance throughout 2018. You are the true champions! Our values – Professionalism, Partnership, Passion, Integrity, Family Values, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment – played a huge part in successfully achieving our objectives. The culture starts with top management and moves all the way down to the teams on the floor.

Congratulations to the sales team for your unwavering perseverance. GLTC was awarded business unit of the year for 2018. What a team!!!!
GLTCBusiness Unit of the Year for 2018
inning the Goscor Business Unit of the Year is by no means only attributed to outstanding financial performance. In every business area, competitors jostle for market share every day. Market share is an important to any business because the market is a pie and the bigger the slice of the pie the more profit potential. If a business is growing and continues to increase its market share, it means the business is leading instead of chasing/following its competition.
Service Department of the Year 2018 was awarded to the Johannesburg operation, who have claimed the title since 2016.
Message from the top
As expected, we have had a slow start to the year, with January only having two trading weeks. We expect the first quarter of 2019 to be tough, exacerbated by the elections. Generally, there is always a wait-and-see approach whenever an election is looming as the uncertainty creates a lot of risk for many businesses.
However, we must remain positive and with the right attitude and the team spirit we have, we can only but succeed and look forward to a rewarding 2019.
At GLTC, we believe that shedding tears over missed opportunities of a quarter gone by only clouds one’s vision and may cause us to miss out on opportunities of the present and the near future.
Those who know me will remember that I refuse to participate in negativity.
I always look on the bright side. Our efficient solutions for our customers are even more important in these tough times and working even harder to provide them with the solutions they need is what we do best.
Let me take this opportunity to wish every member of the family a happy and successful year ahead.
I thank all for you for the support, dedication and extra effort that you always put towards our goals and projections. Let’s make this year count!
Last year was seemingly a tough year economically, especially the first three quarters of the year.
It is with great pride that I announce that despite the tough nature of the market, at GLTC we managed to reach our targets.
The last quarter of the year was a bumper period for us, seeing us doubling our turnover for the year. Well done to the whole team, it was such a great effort by all, enabling us to make our forecast.

The team that made it happen
In support of the supply chain industry, Goscor Lift Truck Company (GLTC) has once again partnered with SAPICS – this time the leading materials handling equipment supplier sponsored the ‘Corporate Educator of the Year’ award at the recently-ended Supply Chain Management Education Excellence Awards.
The SCMEEA event was established some 10 years ago to give recognition to individuals, organisations and learning institutions that have heeded the call of the skills shortage and have made a substantial contribution to skills development in the field of supply chain learning – a topic which is very close to GLTC’s own goals.
We chose to sponsor this award as it encompasses the heart of our business and is a true reflection of GLT C commitment to the industry
and appreciation to other corporates and their young emerging talent.
The Corporate Educator of the Year award is extended to organisations which recognise the value and importance of supply chain management and actively educate and train their employees in this field.
The main criteria that the winning company was judged on was the investment in continued development of its people and being able to demonstrate continuous improvement and positive support and attitude to skills development in supply chain management.

GLTC is delighted to announce the appointments of Gregg Tarr and Dale Rosewall.
Gregg has been appointed as Operations Manager for the Western Cape branch. Gregg’s remarkable experience and proven track record in the industry will help steer the business to greater heights and, above all, significantly improve customer experience at GLTC Western Cape.
Following an arduous interview programme for Sales Manager KZN, we have decided to appoint Dale Rosewall in this position. Finding a replacement for Warren was by no means an easy task.
Following stiff competition from extremely competent team members in Jenna and Jonathan, it was decided that Dale would be best suited to this role going forward.
We trust that everyone will join us in congratulating Dale on this promotion and wishing him all the best in his new role, and provide Dale with all the support he deserves.

The Parts conference is held every year for the JHB parts team, at a house on the Vaal Dam. This year it was decided to include the Part’s heads from all the regions, so that they could get up close and personal with the rest of the team.
Parts staff in the various regions communicate over the phone and e-mails on a daily basis, but management felt that a face-to-face interaction would enhance collaboration. The outcome of the strat session included identifying various obstacles and ways to overcome them, improving Parts Sales whilst keeping our costs low, maintaining world-class customer service, parts stock, and efficiency, etc.

GOSCOR COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEMS
In concurrence with my letter sent to our customers at the back end of 2018, I would like to reiterate what the business dictionary describes the words“Core Values” as: “A principle that guides an organisation’s internal conduct as well as its relationship with the external world”.
In an ever evolving and challenging market, our core values at Goscor is what drives our performance and what sets us apart from the rest. Not only are these values the principles and pillars of what is important to us as a business, I do believe that these are the values that our staff live every day internally and externally.
On the back of living and breathing these core values, our business and the partnership with our customers have gone from strength to strength in 2018 and this is something that we are truly grateful for.
Our strategy for 2019 is simple. We will strive to be an innovative business that sets us apart from our competition.
We will be driving sales by having the right team, working hard, and supporting each other. We know we will not grow when things are easy, we will grow when we face challenges, and we look forward turning these challenges in 2019 into opportunities.

GOSCOR EARTHMOVING EQUIPMENT
Marketing Manager Madel Dalla Pria, Nomvelo Buthelezi from our PR agency NGAGE, and cameraman David Clancy travelled South Africa for a week in mid-February to capture video testimonials from clients using SANY machine in a questto find out why they have put their trust in the toughest equipment in South Africa.
Starting in Nelspruit, they met up with Jean Botha to catch up on how business was going, and to visit a construction site where Obzza Construction was busy with roadwork projects. ..
Obzza Construction bought three machines, a SY210 excavator, an SMG200 grader and an STR Roller. Owner Obert Shikane was really impressed with the exceptional customer service and quality machines that the Goscor Nelspruit branch had to offer. He couldn’t stop raving about the amazing service. Keep it up, guys!
Following the Nelspruit trip, an early morning awaited the team, which was up-and-about at 04:00 to fly to the Northern Cape to visit the Goscor Kathu branch and chat to client Wego Africa. The team was excited to reach their destination, and get started on the day ahead.
A quick trip to the branch office introduced the team to manager, Rudi Burger. Scott was very impressed with the support provided by the team, especially when it came to a minor issue that arose on-site with a filter.
Quick thinking from the branch saw the issue resolved speedily, whereafter the machine was up-and-running in no time at all. The end result was a very happy client, which is always a great achievement!

Despite tough market conditions, Goscor EarthMoving (GEM) achieved significant growth in 2018, and is poised to extend its SANY range even further in 2019. This includes the addition of an even larger excavator.
“As the fifth-largest construction and related equipment manufacturer in the world, SANY is a major powerhouse, with impressive technology” says Owen.
Coupled with Goscor and the Bud Group, that makes for a formidable combination,” Owen stresses.
Extending SANY range even further in 2019
Owen notes
From Nelspruit to Kathu, SANY is tops!

My message to all potential SANY customers is simply to talk to us, as we are here to find the optimum solution for your specific requirements. Another development on the cards for 2019 is
to showcase the SANY SY335 34 t excavator as an intermediary machine for mining, construction, and agriculture. This is a highly versatile excavator with broad application.

A s we begin the second quater of the year
we intend to move mountains at Goscor Cleaning Equipment! Looking ahead, what are the prospects for the year? Forecasts are crucial for all economic and business activity.
The truth of the matter is that we have an economy that’s between a rock and hard place – a looming election, policy and regulatory uncertainty, among other factors, have frozen new investment in the country, putting businesses under immense pressure.
Despite the negativity in the air, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we have had a “great” two years – in every sense of the word – at Goscor Cleaning Equipment.
However, I want to focus on making this year an “excellent” one where we will shoot the lights out! Speaking of excellence, at a strategy meeting we had at the start of the year, management found it befitting that the theme of this year be....
It is about moving from the great years we had, to a whole new world of excellence.
How do we get there? We are primarily going to focus more on our Customer Relations Management – we should completely move away from the traditional thinking that we are a service provider, and rather focus on becoming our customers’ best friends.
In conclusion, we are optimistic about this year as we have all the right people in all the right places.
The calibre of work you continue to give rates supreme. In the face of tough conditions, you bring quality to the team.

Bobcat S175 skidsteer loader
Essentially, 2018 was a year of polar opposites, with both good news and disappointing newsseemingly the order of the day. On the whole, though, we at Bobcat and SANY remain optimistic about the future of this great country.
We await the 2019 elections eagerly, after which we think that meaningful change will begin to emerge. So, it may be a long, hard road ahead, fraught with many challenges, but at least we are no longer charging over the edge of the abyss as we seemed to be prior to December 2017.
In the midst of all this uncertainty, the one thing that remains consistent is Bobcat and SANY’s commitment to excellence. Are we there yet? No.
Will we ever get there? Probably not. After all, ‘excellence’ implies absolutely no slip-ups or dropped catches – something that I’ve yet to see in any business, in any part of the world. But a commitment to excellence is key, as this will bring us ever-closer to perfection. We’ve filled critical posts and, importantly, replaced staff where we thought we were weak. In particular, we have made some excellent changes and appointments within our aftermarket team, in recognition of the fact that this is the most important aspect of our business.
A great business, after all, is about having the best people. And this is our relentless task: We shall not stop until we have the best possible people in each role in our business. Without this, how can we possibly strive for greatness? Despite the continued slowdown in the mining and construction industries, we had a good year in a bad environment. Remember that we are coming off of a relatively small base, so the fact that the market is difficult at present did not deter our growth. This growth has been exponential, largely due to the increasing popularity and brand awareness of SANY in Africa in general.
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) branch of Bobcat Equipment South Africa was instrumental in assisting the Pecanwood Oktoberfest Lifestyle Festival in the Midlands attempt a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest slip-and-slide on Saturday 20 October.
The 1.6-m-wide and 630-m-long trench needed for the slip-and-slide was dug out over a three-day period with the assistance of a Bobcat S175 skidsteer loader.
Here the main challenge was to dig through the thick wattle-like ground cover, KZN GM Brian Rachman explains.
The project was simply to sculpt the trench for a plastic lining to be placed
over it, in order for soapy water to be sluiced down its length to create the slip-and-slide.

In this Central Bohemian region, about 40km southwest of Prague,
one would find a little village, Dobris, which is home to one of the Bobcat’s factories where R&D and manufacturing of some of our biggest selling units are conducted. In this establishment there is also a training centre, whereby training is held regularly to ensure that the skills in their field of expertise are continuously advanced. With the R & D ,
Our National Technical Manager, Justin Wright, along with two technicians, Pieter De Beer, Martin Terreblanche were afforded the opportunity to go for a week-long training course at this pristine training centre. A tour through the factory exhibited the efficiency, proficiency and professionalism of how the Bobcat Equipment Range is manufactured. Machines are tested to ensure durability and efficient running of the units are up to Bobcat Standards. Being able to see the brainsbehind the compact equipment was quite an exciting and educational experience for Justin and team.
training centre and manufacturing plant being in the same campus, it has enabled Bobcat to work as a cross-functional team. Once a unit is prototyped, tested and validated it then goes into production.

SHUMANI
19GOSCOR GLOBE Issue 1 2019
Let me start by extending my appreciation for the amazing work accomplished by the whole Shumani team throughout 2018 andeven the two years before that. In the four years of existence, the business has stamped its mark in an industry that we all know is no walk in the park. The endless hours that each of you put in, and the dedication and professionalism that you have shown, has taken us thus far.
Just to reflect on some key achievements of the year behind us – that we have established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in the South African industrial equipment space in a very short space of time is no point of contention.
Testimony to this is our long list of some major blue-chip clients, including Coca Cola South Africa, AB In-Bev, Bell Equipment, Maxion Wheels, EnviroServ, Imperial, Transnet, Mechanical Assembly Product South Africa, Famous Brands, Bevcan, Multotec, American Embassy,Mpact Operations and GRE Investment, to mention a few.
In conclusion, as management we understand that in the hustle and bustle of the year, we may not show our appreciation as effectively as we should. Let me take this opportunity to assure you that no great effort goes unnoticed. All the best for the year ahead.

On the couch with Shaun Morton
Shaun Morton, former Director of GRC, was recently appointed Operations Director at Shumani. We managed to get a few minutes out of his busy schedule to ask him few light hearted questions about himself and he didn’t disappoint with his straight and funny Shaun Morton, Operations
Director
Who is Shaun Morton?I think 4 words sum me up (Passion, Success, Hardworking and The founder of one of Shumani’s Biggest Accounts - Coca Cola Beverages South Africa and SAB) I work hard and play hard with lots of sleepless nights. That’s me in a nutshell, at least that’s how I think those who know me will describe me.
Shumani exhibited for the first time at one of Africa’s biggest packaging Exhibitions, Propak Africa.
We had an outside stand opposite the entrance and next to the biggest hall, Hall 6. This gave us the right positioning to engage with the crowed coming into the venue. To draw visitors to our stand we had Mr Gary Carvalho the cartoonist, who drew over 200 people to our stand, from which we generated over 30 quality leads.

It is with much sadness that I announce that Adriaan van den Berg (affectionately know to all of us as "Jannie") passed away over the festive season. Jannie was with the group for 15 years and was a magnificent parts salesman. He was the top performer in the Bobcat and SANY stable and it was rare to have a month go by when the name of Jannie van den Berg didn't sit at the top of the parts sales tree!
He was dedicated and loyal and worked extremely hard - despite the debilitating illness with which he had to live. Jannie will be remembered by all of us as a friendly and helpful person who was always willing to lend a hand.
Our thoughts are with Jannie's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
