*Lovebirds are small parakeets who live in pairs. Male and female lovebirds look alike, but most other male birds have brighter colors than the females.

*Cardinal Richelieu of France (1622) was so fond of cats that he shared his home with 14 of them. Specially appointed attendants cared for them, and upon his death in 1642, the Cardinal left all his worldly wealth to his feline companions.

PET JOKES Escargots A couple was having a party at their house. An hour before the party the woman found out that she still needed Escargots. So she sent her husband out to get some. He was walking to the supermarket and he figured he had lots of time, so he stopped at the bar on the way. An hour and a half later he looked at his watch and realized that the party had already started. He quickly ran to the market, bought the snails and ran home. He tried to sneak into the kitchen without his wife seeing him. But at that moment his wife came out. He quickly threw the snails on the floor and said, "Come on guys, we're almost there."

Actress Dame Judi Dench, who has previously cared for four cats, two guinea pigs, 12 water voles, two fish, a hamster and a pair of field mice, believes being surrounded by pets is good for the soul!

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE LIPIZZANNER HORSE BREED

The Lipizzaner is a breed of horse closely associated with the Spanish Riding

School of Vienna, Austria, where they demonstrate the haute école or "high

school" movements of classical dressage, including the highly controlled, stylized

jumps and other movements known as the "airs above the ground." The horses at

the Spanish Riding School are trained using traditional methods that date back

hundreds of years, based on the principles of classical dressage.

The Lipizzan breed dates back to the 16th century, when it was developed with

the support of the Habsburg nobility. The breed takes its name from one of the

earliest stud farms established, located near the Karst Plateau village of

Lipica (spelled "Lipizza" in Italian), in modern-day Slovenia. The breed has been

endangered numerous times by warfare sweeping Europe, including during

the War of the First Coalition, World War I and World War II. The rescue of the

Lipizzans during World War II by American troops was made famous by

the Disney movie Miracle of the White Stallions. Along with the Disney movie,

Lipizzaner’s have also starred or played supporting roles in many movies, TV

shows, books and other media.

PAW-SCOPES DOGS: Your pooch can be rather lazy and indulgent at times. And without lifting a paw, they make a beautiful display sprawled across the couch. When not resting, he or she needs to have interactive play-time, both inside and out as this is a must to keep their mental and physical agility intact. CATS: Your cat can be your true companion for life, bonding with you on many levels. Try not to leave home without leaving something of yours for them to snuggle up to. They will miss you less if a reminder of your essence is left behind.

The WWF LOGO

* * * * * The inspiration for the World Wildlife Fund

(WWF) logo came from Chi-Chi: a giant

panda that had arrived at the London Zoo in 1961, the

same year WWF was created. The first panda sketches

were done by the British environmentalist and artist,

Gerald Watterson. Based on these, Sir Peter Scott, one

of WWF’s founders and world-renowned conservationist

and painter, drew the first logo. The design of the logo

has evolved over the past four decades, but the giant

panda’s distinctive features remain an integral part of

WWF’s treasured and unmistakable symbol. Today,

WWF’s trademark is recognized as a universal symbol for

the conservation movement.

WORLD’S RAREST COFFEE

The world’s rarest coffee, Kopi Luwak, comes from Indonesia where a wildcat known as the Luwak lives. The cat eats the coffee berries and the coffee beans inside pass through the stomach. The beans are har-vested from the cat's dung heaps and then cleaned and roasted. Kopi Luwak sells for about $500 for a 450 g (1 lb) bag. This was also men-tioned in the movie “The Bucket List” starring Jack Nicholson and Mor-gan Freeman. So you might just think about where your next cup of coffee came from!
