Tuturumuri School
Week 4, Term 3, 2016 From the Principal’s Chair Kia ora tena koutou katoa What a great week we have had keeping up to date with the NZ Olympic achievements. Mahe Drysdale was the perfect example of a photo finish! The students have also been brainstorming in groups what they think are rights, rules and responsibilities. Reihana and George attended the Soccer Tournament in Carterton last Friday. See the report on this further on in the newsletter. Tom, Flyn, Pippa and James took up the challenge of Tough Guy and Gal and thoroughly en-joyed the experience. Pippa fluked another spot prize for the second year running! Please view the photos taken at this event. Their smiles and the mud say it all! It is great to see Playgroup here every Thursday and I enjoy touching base with them. George F was desperate to come on the school bus and get a taste of school which we were happy to accommodate. George is only 4 and turns 5 in March. We can’t wait to have him full-time. The hug I got from George and then Riley, made my entire week! There is a lovely photo of George wearing his new high-vis vest (just like the big kids!) included in the newsletter. Many thanks to the parents who continually promote the wearing of these and drivers have already commented that they are easier to see and slow down. The students have been very proactive in wearing theirs and their safety is paramount. A big thank you to Wayne for loaning me a fridge since my one decided to pack it in. Paddy has sold her house and is in the process of getting ready to relocate to Whanganui. She has been great as a member of staff in her role as Teacher aide on Fridays. Paddy’s last day will be Friday, 9th September. We wish her and Eddie all the best for their future endeavours. You will be missed. Have a great two weeks.

School Values - B = Balanced
The students are working through the school values and to them “B” means
Easy going, a person that goes with the flow, can take turns, doesn’t get angry easi-
ly, compromises and gets on with everyone.
Teacher and Principal awards Principal’s Awards go to Adrian for trying hard in writing and Garnier for excellent reading work. Teacher’s Awards go to Flyn for fantastic homework and awesome Te Reo. Also, Hunter for awesome work in Te Reo and learning to say how he feels.
The Board of Trustees (BOT) at the next meeting 4.30pm, Thursday 15 September 2016, intends to discuss and look at passing a resolution to reduce parent numbers on the board from four to three. A BOT can have as a minimum three parent members, principal, and staff representative. Our current board consists of parent trustee members: Ange, Mike, Kerstin, Jo as principal, and Renita intends to stand for staff representative (By election to be held in October).
Should any parents or community members wish to express their opinions, you are welcome to attend our meeting or express your opinion in writing to either Ange or Jo directly at school.
Thank you

Look at what we’ve been up to…. Student Writing
I went to swimming lessons. I went to the park and I went home. By Mackenzi Y1
I have a lego truck. It opens up. You can put stuff in it. By Adrian Y1
On Saturday I built Adrian’s baddy house and Adrian built his police truck. At 2 o’clock we went to the beach. Daddy couldn’t because he had to shift the cows. When we got there I saw Tom running to us. We caught three grey fish. Then Daddy came to the beach. We left because it was getting cold. At home I kept building lego by myself. I stopped building lego and went into the lounge and watched Maulwurf with Adrian and Eliana. By Jacob Y3
On Thursday the 4th, Tom, Flyn, Pippa and James went to Wainuiomata to compete in the Tough Guy & Tough Gal Challenge. They are looking pretty clean, so this must be a before photo. They tell me, that they did get rather muddy, and it was a lot of fun.
On Friday, we had Pyjama day. Everyone made a great effort and some of the children even bought along their favourite bedtime soft toy.
YUMMY STICKERS, BREAD BAGS
We are asking our community to once again send in their Yummy fruit stickers and dental products to school. Bread bags from Goodman Fielder products. These include Sunny Crust (Bread, Buns and Wraps) Country Split, Molenberg, Freyas and Vogels.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their dental products. We have now sent them away but are collecting again for 2017.

Students Learning at Tuturumuri School
On Friday, Reihana and George joined in with Featherston School and par-ticipated at the South Wairarapa Primary Football Tournament. Both boys managed to scored goals for the team. They drew 2 and won 2 of their games. The weather was great and both boys had a great time. However, their legs did ache a little, for a few days.

George joined us on Thursday for a wee school visit, before play-group. Doesn’t he look smart in his new Hi-viz vest?
FOOD PYRAMID As part of the Healthy Eating Pro-gramme, the children have construct-ed a pyramid showing groups of ‘Eat most’ through to ‘Eat moderately’ and ‘Eat less’. The finished products are up on the classroom wall and looks fantastic.
Some of the younger students have been working on pairing up their numbers from one to twelve. Identifying the number and how it looks in number and word form compared to quanti-ty.
