LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Your everyday,

enriched.

The 2020 Census is easy. The questions are simple. The census asks questions that

provide a snapshot of the nation. Census results affect your voice in government, how

much funding your community receives and how your community plans for the

future.

When you fill out the census you help:

• Determine how many seats your state gets in Congress.

• Guide how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed

to states and communities each year.

• Create jobs, provide housing, prepare for emergencies and build

schools, roads and hospitals.

What is asked:

• Name

• Gender

• Age & Date of Birth

• Hispanic, Latino or Spanish Origin

• Race

• Number of people living or staying in your home. (Population count)

• Whether a person lives or stays somewhere else (so each person is counted only

once)

• Relationship

• Are you an Owner or Renter

• Phone Number

If you need help in filling out the forms, CALL the Office for

the Aging and Debbie or Mirna (en espanol) will help you fill

them out.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR By Andrea Hirschman

JANET CHARLES

Where were you born &

raised?

I was born in Trinidad, West

Indies where I attended

school. Afterward, I studied

nursing at Whittington Hospital in London,

England. I emigrated to the US in 1975. I

came to work at the then New Rochelle Hos-

pital as a RN until I retired in 2008.

What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy

traveling and have been to over 40 coun-

tries. I really like Ireland; since I enjoy the

friendly people, their culture and relaxed way

of life. There are beautiful landscapes dotted

with green grass and grazing sheep and of

course, many lovely castles. I’ve visited Bun-

ratty Castle numerous times where they

demonstrate medieval times activities which

were wonderfully portrayed. I also enjoy

attending Broadway plays and reading.

What types of books do you enjoy? Mostly Bi-

ographies but also Irish cultured writings.

I enjoy coming regularly to the senior center

where I have made many new friends. I en-

joy the programs, as well as the day trips and

the overseas trips with Collette. Now I would

like to visit more states within the US.
