1/ ADVOCATE THE INTERESTS OF THE LPG SECTOR AT EU LEVELThe EU has never been more influential and energy policy has never been so
important. Climate change, air pollution, and security of supply policies are among
many policy areas that have a direct impact on the LPG industry. All AEGPL members
are kept up to date with the latest developments that can directly or indirectly affect
their businesses. AEGPL members also contribute to the LPG industry’s official positions
through AEGPL’s various taskforces and working groups
CASE STUDYALTERNATIVE FUELS INFRASTRUCTURE DIRECTIVE
The European Union adopted in 2014 the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive.
AEGPL participated in a Working Group led by the European Commission where
it successfully argued for the inclusion of Autogas in the scope of the Directive.
Following this achievement, AEGPL proceeded to support its members in better
understanding the complexity of the Directive, namely by organising a workshop
with experts.
The work done by AEGPL contributed to empowering national associations
in securing the recognition of the role of Autogas in their countries’ national
policy frameworks.
“THE AEGPL’S INPUT INTO ENERGY POLICY AT EUROPEAN UNION LEVEL IS CRITICAL FOR THE LPG INDUSTRY. FURTHERMORE, AS A BUSINESS PRESENT IN SEVERAL EUROPEAN MARKETS, WE WELCOME THE ROLE THE AEGPL PLAYS IN SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS IN THEIR WORK PROMOTING LPG AT A NATIONAL LEVEL.”
HENRY CUBBON MANAGING DIRECTOR DCC ENERGY LPG

CASE STUDY
ENERGY TAXATION DIRECTIVE
The European Commission released in 2011 a proposal on the Energy Taxation Directive, which sets minimum excise duties for energy products. The proposal assumed a significant increase in the excise duty rate applying to LPG, which would have made LPG less competitive.
In face of this threat, AEGPL created a working group in order to coordinate its members’ outreach efforts. A rise in excise duty rates would have affected the uptake of vehicles running on alternative fuels, and would also have had a detrimental impact on rural households’ energy security. After more than three years of negotiations, the European Commission withdrew the new proposal in December 2014, maintaining the existing excise duty rates.
