Last year a suggestion was put to Council that it should consider creating some sort of memorial to one of the most generous-spirited people we’ve known in recent years, the late Arthur Musolino.

Although Arthur’s good works touched many across the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, he was best known in Klemzig and it is here that a memorial garden in his honor was opened in March this year.

It’s a most appropriate memorial because, among many other things, Arthur was a passionate gardener, president of the Enfield Horticultural Society for 10 years and Chief Steward at their two annual shows. He also ran the Society’s very important plant sales stall, with many of the plants those he had grown at home.

It also makes a most attractive addition to the rebuilt Klemzig Recreation Ground, which was opened at the same time – marking the end of a four year process that has seen most of the reserve replaced with new buildings, infrastructure and landscaping.

The new community hall provides excellent access, commercial kitchen facilities and access to oval and walking facilities around the reserve. The end result is a showpiece that includes top-level oval facilities, floodlighting and carparking.

There are now excellent landscaped passive park facilities that include barbeques, seating and shelters, personal exercise equipment and walking paths, open community tennis courts and playgrounds featuring natural play elements.

The plan also had to take into account stormwater requirements, including an underground drainage system for the oval and a new oval-wide irrigation system.

This has been a major investment by Council but it has resulted in Klemzig Recreation Ground becoming one of Adelaide’s great community parks.

Ward Councillors Port Adelaide Enfield Council comprises a Mayor and 17 Councillors, distributed around seven wards that take in the whole of the City. These are your representatives, your voice in Council on matters that concern you in your area, and they are the people who make the policy decisions that guide the Council’s administration in its daily work. If you have any concerns that should be brought to the attention of Council, please contact one of the Elected Members in your ward.

Klemzig Ward Profile The Klemzig Ward includes the suburbs of Klemzig, Windsor Gardens, Holden Hill, Gilles Plains and part of Dernancourt. Settlement in the Gilles Plains and Holden Hill area dates from the 1840s, with land used mainly for grazing and hay growing. Much growth took place in the late 1800s. Gilles Plains was a private subdivision named after Osmond Gilles, the first colonial treasurer. Holden Hill is a corruption of the surname of Robert Halden, an original landowner in the area. Windsor Gardens is a 1929 subdivision named by Edward C Mills.

There are numerous education facilities in the area, including Burc College, St Paul’s College, Kildare College, Wandana Primary and Windsor Gardens Vocational College.

There is still a higher percentage of persons with Italian and German heritage living in Klemzig and Windsor Gardens, when compared to greater Adelaide. The 2011 census indicated 11.4% of the population was of Italian descent, compared to 6.9% in greater Adelaide, and 7.1% of residents were of German descent, compared to 6.8% in greater Adelaide.

Historic KlemzigKlemzig’s first inhabitants were German Lutherans, persecuted for their beliefs in Prussia under King Frederick William III. Assisted by George Fife Angas, the first group of 21 Lutherans arrived on the Bengalee in 1838, with a further 200 arriving on the Prince George, a journey that had taken 19 weeks. South Australian Colonists had supported this by providing £350 for the journey. The colonists hoped the new arrivals would be placed individually throughout the colony where they were needed as carpenters or shearers, but the Prussians wanted to remain as a community. They were offered sections 491 and 492 in the Hundred of Yatala which they leased for seven years at five shillings per acre. In 1918 when old German names were changed because of World War I, Klemzig was renamed Gaza. The area was officially known as Gaza until a number of historic names were restored in 1935. In 1935 Klemzig was further subdivided and the streets Flaxman, Kavel, Angas and Blackett were renamed First, Second, Third and Fourth Avenues.

Must seeAn important piece of the state’s multicultural history can be found at the Klemzig Pioneer Cemetery, located on the corner of Second Avenue and Spring Grove. This cemetery was closed in the early 1860s and subsequently reclaimed after the land was bought by the government. The Lutheran Church cared for and restored the cemetery, clearing it of brushwood and iron fencing. During the South Australian centennial year in 1936 a memorial to the pioneers was erected and unveiled by Governor George Winston Dugan. In 1988, the Governor of South Australia, Lieutenant General Sir Donald Dunstan, unveiled a new commemorative sculpture on the same historic site, and unveiled plaques containing the names of the pioneers buried at the cemetery.

Must doThe leafy and green environments of the Klemzig Ward includes numerous reserves and open spaces that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The reserve and hall, located at Lothian Ave, Windsor Gardens, was named after reserve authority officer George Crawford. The hall itself is popular for community events and programs, and the park includes four courts, perfect for a family game of netball or tennis. The Klemzig Oval and Hall on North East Road have recently been upgraded.

Must tryIt would be easy to spend a day meandering along the Linear Park trail that runs from Klemzig to Dernancourt. The walk includes many scenic views and variations in elevation which makes the walk pleasant and relaxing, and is also home to a number of large river red gums. While wandering through this area, stop to experience one of the recently completed activity nodes that feature playspaces, fitness equipment and BBQs for the family to enjoy. The equipment allows you to undertake a range of physical activities and is suitable for use by adults and older children. These interactive stations are located via Windsor Grove, Pittwater Drive or Ramsey Avenue.

100 YEARS AGOLooking into our past…

New Port Adelaide Railway StationConsiderable progress has been made with the erection of the new Port Adelaide Railway Station by the contractor (Mr S Perry). The present contract consists of building a portion of the approach to the station, the foundations and superstructure carrying the overhead station and a portion of the elevated railway. Starting from Clare street, Portland Estate, the job extends across a vacant piece of land, to the eastern side of Commercial road. In order to carry the piers and pillars 278 concrete piles were driven to an average depth of 26 ft. into the earth, and upon these foundations are being built the concrete piers and cast iron columns. The whole of the 17 concrete foundations have been completed, four of the small piers forming the approach to the station are ready, with one yet to erect. The railway offices will be constructed between the iron columns. The long embankment extending from Hart street, Glanville, along the southern front of the Port Adelaide Canal is practically complete. This work has been efficiently carried out by Mr A. Hunter.

National Simultaneous StorytimeEvery year a picture book that’s been written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually as part of Library Information Week. It aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, promote the value and fun of books, promote an Australian writer and publisher, and to promote storytime activities in public libraries and communities around the country.

This year the picture book is Too many elephants in this house, written by Ursula Dubosarsky and illustrated by Andrew Joyner.

Port Adelaide Enfield Library Service will be involved, with each of its Library sites holding readings of the book as part of their regular Preschool sessions with a great elephant craft after the story.

So come along with your child or children and enjoy these wonderful sessions:

• Monday 19 May 10.15-10.45am - Port Library

• Tuesday 20 May 10.15-10.45am - Greenacres Library

• Wednesday 21 May 10.15-10.45 - Enfield Library

• Thursday 22 May 10.15-10.45am - Semaphore Library

Historic photos go onlineCouncil has created a new web app to share its collection of more than 3000 historical photographs and never before publicly viewed aerial mapping from 1936, 1968 and 1983 (Enfield only) with the community.

Using the new responsive site you will be able to browse our historical images by a map or photo gallery. By choosing a theme of photographs from the numerous photo sets, which include churches, trains and bridges, they will all display as interactive points on a map.

Selecting a point will show the photo thumbnail and details. Switching to gallery mode will enable flicking through the images and their titles and descriptions. Switching back to the map will show the location of the currently displaying photo. The photos may also be viewed on Flickr using a link provided. Images may also be filtered by date and subject.

Using the aerial mapping tool you will be able to view the significant changes that have occurred within the City of Port Adelaide Enfield or your property location since 1936.

Council’s Local History web page contains more information about the project and how you may donate images for inclusion in the collection.

Join us for the launch of the website Thursday 1 May from 6.30- 7.30pm at Port Adelaide Library. Bookings are essential on 8405 6580.

True North success‘A Sense of Home’ was the debut production by True North Youth Theatre Ensemble, supported by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s Cultural Development Grants Program.

Directed by local Hillcrest resident and multi award-winning director Alirio Zavarce, the show received excellent reviews including:

“This show is more than just theatre…This show has soul” – The Advertiser.

“Alirio Zavarce has done it again. This talented director seems to have a knack of pulling together a group of people, offering them a safe haven to explore their world and then asks them to share it with an audience. Bravo Alirio, bring on the next production because I’ll be there ready, sitting in the front row with my hanky.” Giselle R.- TalkFringe.

“Director Alirio Zavarce dreamed of using theatre making as a teaching tool and that’s exactly what he’s accomplished. Within a year, Adelaide’s newest youth theatre company has created young artists who write the script, compose songs, create puppetry and bring it all together in their first show which tackles that big question: what makes a sense of home?” Kylie Pedler - Adelaide Theatre Guide.

“This ensemble tugs on the heartstrings with its insightful and diverse descriptions of home. If ‘memories are what makes a home’, then it stands to reason that A Sense of Home will leave an indelible memory in your heart.” Patricia Herreen - In Daily.

“The actors manipulate words and images in view of the audience. This is a sweet and honest show that offers gentle insights into the thoughts and attitudes of young people, and leaves you with a good feeling…the children in the audience especially loved it.” Louise Nunn - The Advertiser.

“Stories of climbing trees, telling ghost stories and moving overseas into extraordinary works of theatrical art. A Sense of Home will no doubt bring you back to a world of childish innocence and fun and will, of course, make you go “Awww” a good few times!” James Rudd – GlamAdelaide.

New parent resourceAn exciting new GreatStart parent website has been developed to provide ideas and activities for parents to develop their children’s early numeracy and literary skills.

Part of the Department for Education and Children Development’s Numeracy and Literacy Strategy, it is framed around everyday family events - play, food, out and about, growing and celebrations.

For each activity, information is provided on why it matters and what it leads to in terms of numeracy or literacy development, with examples of the language parents could use when they engage in the activity with their child.

Activities are searchable by age, materials and the skills developed. Parents and families are encouraged to use the website www.greatstart.sa.edu.au to give their children the best possible start to their education.

Three well known AustraliansIn 1982 artist Martin Shaw painted ‘Three Well Known Australians’, which has been touring Australia ever since. Along the way, people from all walks of life have been invited to record their opinion of “who” the three Australians are.

The painting, letters from a huge range of famous and infamous people, and yearbooks recording people’s opinions will be on display in the Civic Centre in Port Adelaide from late March until late April.

Come and have a look and add your opinion to this piece of Australian history.

Semaphore Road muralYou may have noticed a giant crocodile at the river end of Semaphore Road! This awesome work of art was created by Italian street artist, Hitnes, with the assistance of Adelaide street artist, Vans the Omega.

The project was a partnership with Guildhouse (formerly known as Craft South), which brought Hitnes to Australia to conduct a series of masterclasses that resulted in a fish mural on the Adelaide Festival Centre Plaza.

We were lucky enough to take advantage of his remaining time in South Australia to commission a mural along the new Loop Path. Local schools and artists were invited to observe his unique style, which uses brushes and rollers on long extension poles rather than aerosol art.

Hitnes comes from Rome where he graduated from the European Institute of Design as an illustrator and animator. Since 1996 he has worked as a muralist for public and private clients in Europe, Australia, Mexico and China. See his website www.hitnes.org for further information.

Vans the Omega has been creating and painting with aerosols for over 20 years, travelling and working around the globe consistently since 2000. See his website www.vanstheomega.com

Check out their giant mural on the back wall of the Fletcher Slip Precinct, opposite the intersection between Semaphore Road and Fletcher Road, Birkenhead.

What is your story about this massive creature? What is it doing here? What is its name?

Submit your ideas and stories to [email protected] with your name, age and contact email/address. Your story may be used on Council’s website or in future publications!

Cooking up a storm with StephanieThe Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is a big attraction at Blair Athol North B-7 School, where all students from Year 3-7 participate.

Students take part in a gardening and a cooking session each fortnight where they grow delicious seasonal produce which they harvest and cook to share with their studio groups. The kitchen and garden provide an authentic experience for students to learn about health, how to grow and prepare nutritious food, and to put into practice the learning that happens in the studios.

The garden is full of fresh produce that the students have grown with the help of the garden specialist, while in the kitchen the students, supported by the kitchen specialist, produce and share delicious food.

The program has a small group of motivated volunteers who support the students in both the garden and kitchen. A recent addition to the location was a new gazebo, erected with the help of the Lions Club. This new addition to the outdoor learning space helps ensure that students can learn in the garden in both winter and summer.

If you are a keen gardener or cook and enjoy working with children, you may wish to consider becoming a volunteer with the program. Please contact the school office on 8168 0700 and leave a message for Kylie, Tom or Jodi.

The value of nature in your own backyardCouncil, in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA), organises an annual summer conservation program from December to March each year.

The aim of the program is to make volunteers aware of the importance of the natural environment within our urban reserves and to generate community interest. The program also helps to promote Council’s local biodiversity assets and to encourage the community to value urban biodiversity.

More than 30 volunteers have undertaken on-ground works over a six-day period through the summer conservation program, during which:

• 270 aquatics were planted at Council’s Magazine Creek Wetlands to provide habitat for local birds

• About 50 woody weed shrubs of various sizes were poisoned

• Two trailer loads of rubbish were removed from the wetlands

• Many reptile specimens were sighted and reported along Semaphore sand dunes

• Ridley Grove Community Garden biodiversity and butterfly trail was rejuvenated by spreading 10 tonnes of mulch for the garden and removing and pruning natives and

• Partnering with Bird SA to monitor and record migratory shore birds that travel thousands of kilometres from the Northern Hemisphere to feed and rest at Council wetlands.

The annual Volunteer Summer Conservation Program is always looking for new volunteer recruits. If you would like to know more about the program or enquire about volunteering, please contact Craig Hughes on 8405 6028.

Roy Marten Park Master Plan A master plan is being developed that will guide the future upgrade of Roy Marten Park on Military Road at Taperoo.

Outerspace Landscape Architects has been engaged by Council to prepare the master plan, with an initial community engagement exercise undertaken in February – March where we asked what people liked about the park and for suggestions on how it could be improved.

An Information Day will be held at Roy Marten Park on Sunday 6 April 2014 from 10am to 2pm at which the community is encouraged to drop by and have a chat to the design team about options and concepts for the park that will be on display.

If you are unable to attend the Information Day please visit Council’s website for more information about the project and for ways to share your opinion. Contact Tim Noonan on 8405 6736 if you require further information about the project.

Birkenhead Bridge Loop PathWorks on the Birkenhead Bridge Loop Path have seen the path extended along the waterfront around Shed 26 to New Port Quays.

In November 2013, resurfacing of Jenkins Street was completed with fencing and line marking along the path underway. Works to the car park on Causeway Road (adjacent the Ethelton train station) and a path to link the car park to the northern side of the Jervois Bridge have also recently been completed.

Works along the Birkenhead Bridge commenced in January this year and are just about complete. The works will see the continuation of the shared use loop path along the western side of the bridge, providing a wide, safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists along the bridge. This section of the loop path is a key part of the greater “Greenways” project which allows for safe bicycle commuting between the city and the suburbs.

Works are also underway on the Jervois Bridge, Jervois Bridge ramp and along the wharf at Hart’s Mill. The loop path will provide a 2.2km route around the Inner Harbour, access to the riverfront and will also incorporate interpretative signage, seating and shade.

The path will provide opportunities for active lifestyles, a chance to relax, enjoy views of the river and the Port and hopefully some dolphin-watching too! 9 YOUR COMMUNITY NEWS • APRIL/MAY 2014 PAGE

EEN Environment

A wild and wet start to the yearThis attractive, eye catching photo of lightning striking the Birkenhead Bridge was taken by photographer Andrew Scott, who was in the Port when an electrical storm struck earlier this year.

We certainly have seen some wild weather during the first few months of 2014, with storms in January and a downpour of rain in February. Council took a number of steps to assist residents who were affected by the deluge. Environmental Health Officers handled a number of health-related enquiries and street sweepers were despatched to remove debris from affected streets. Extra hard refuse collections were also provided in affected areas, picking up and disposing of an extra 94 pickups of general hard waste which totalled 12.240 tonnes.

Council has also recently confirmed that a pump station will be constructed near Hargrave Street, Peterhead, after a supporting grant was received from the Stormwater Management Authority. The total cost of the station, which is expected to be complete in 2016, will be more that $11 million. This amount is in addition to the $4 million spent on stormwater works in this area over the last ten years. The new Hargrave Street pump station will work in conjunction with an older pump station located at Elder Road, Birkenhead. Keep an eye on the Council website for updates about the pump station project.

Share a world of tea!Did you know that the first recorded use of tea as a beverage took place nearly 5,000 years ago in China?

Or that beyond the commonly found black tea and green tea there are several other varieties, such as white, yellow, oolong and pu-erh?

And that as well as milk and sugar, many other accompaniments to tea are found throughout the world, including lemon, honey, cinnamon and cloves, even salt and butter!

The new ‘World of Tea’ international tea bar at Kilburn Community Centre is a monthly program providing a journey across different cultures through the many styles and flavours of tea.

Each month, a particular theme will be presented, looking at the development of tea within a certain culture or exploring the range of tastes to be discovered in a particular type of tea. Come and expand your mind and taste buds at this series of engaging and relaxing sessions.

For those who do not wish to try the more obscure and unusual selections and styles, a range of more familiar teas will be available at all sessions to ensure everyone can enjoy a nice cuppa!

After being launched during the Harmony Day activities on 21 March, the Kilburn Community Centre ‘World of Tea’ will be held monthly on Tuesday mornings on the following dates throughout 2014, with each session running from 10.30am- 12pm:

• Tuesday 29 July

• Tuesday 26 August

• Tuesday 23 September

• Tuesday 21 October

• Tuesday 18 November

• Tuesday 9 December

Themes for each month are still being finalised and will be promoted at the Centre and on the Council website. For any questions about the program, to register your interest or to share ideas about possible themes, please contact 8349 8363 or email [email protected]

New look for Kilburn Kilburn Community Centre will close for about eight weeks from Monday 14 April 2014 to undertake a much needed refurbishment of the facility.

The upgrade to the main stadium, with new carpeting and painting throughout, improved toilet amenities near the hall, new air conditioning in the hall and the installation of data projectors will breathe new life into the building.

While Council apologises for any inconvenience during the refurbishment period, existing groups and new programs will soon be located in a modern improved facility. The works were due to taked place in December and January 2014, but were delayed after a grant previously approved by the former Federal government did not come to fruition. Council will now fund the project, which needs to be completed this financial year.

For further information contact Leigh at the centre before 14 April on 8349 8363 or Jeff on 8405 6874.

Fancy a game of golf?Fore! Did you know that there are three lovely golf courses located across the City of Port Adelaide Enfield?

The scenic Glanville Par 3 Golf Course is located on Wald Avenue, Semaphore South, adjacent to the historic Glanville Hall and Glanville Sea Scouts Hall. Within walking distance of the coastline, the Glanville course is maintained at an exceptionally high standard, with greens and fairways of comparable standard to those at expensive private courses. Contact the Glanville course on 8449 5000.

Following the re-alignment of South Road for the $842 million South Road Superway project, Regency Park Golf Course is now back in action and provides new challenges to golfers. The feature hole of the revamped layout is the spectacular 6th hole, a par 5 hole with the green extending into a new wetland constructed to the north of the course.

Other improvements include:

• three new holes, all with new bunkers and irrigation systems built to accommodate future recycled water use

• improved safety along South Road by reversing the direction of play at Hole 7

• the installation of screen net fencing, new seating, ball washers and rubbish bins

• environmental benefits including a wetland extensively planted with reeds and sedges to filter stormwater, and

• a boardwalk feature open to the public around the northern perimeter.

For opening hours and prices, contact the course on 8268 5753.

The Valley View Par 3 Golf Course is set in the beautiful parklands of the Thomas Turner Reserve. It is an 18 hole course wrapped around a gently sloping hill and it is ideal for players of all ages. There are many benefits to playing at Valley View, including the fact that its shorter course means less walking, and you will take fewer strokes to go round, so it’s less tiring. This makes Valley View great for beginners, children and seniors. Contact the Valley View Golf Course office on 8263 1863.

Enjoying GreenacresCouncil’s OPAL program and Parks and Garden section co-hosted a community launch of the newly redeveloped Greenacres Reserve playspace in January. The launch day was abuzz with a range of activities including face painting and kite making, and was capped off by a delicious healthy BBQ cooked by the Prospect Rotary Club, which was eagerly devoured by the more than 60 community members who attended.

Redevelopment of the playspace was dependent on a community consultation approach. Landscape design company Aspect Studios was contracted by Council to gather the views and ideas of students from Hampstead Primary School and the wider community, with many of their ideas incorporated into the final design.

The result has been the creation of a magnificent playspace characterised by traditional playground elements for all ages, fun nature play structures and creative, playful elements such as a giant, interactive gecko skeleton. Gather the family together and come explore this new playground located at Manoora Street, Greenacres.

Community Grants Council’s Community and Cultural Development Grants program provides assistance to not for profit community groups and organisations to conduct a range of developmental programs for the Port Adelaide Enfield community. This year, some changes have been made to the deadlines for submission of applications. The change of date is for this financial year only and is to accommodate the Local Government Elections to be held in November 2014. Applications open on Monday 10 March 2014 and close at 5pm on Friday 30 May 2014. Guidelines and Application forms are available on Council’s website: www.portenf.sa.gov.au/goto/grants

Prospect road upgradesCouncil has been working with property owners, businesses and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to improve assets and infrastructure along Prospect Road in Kilburn and Blair Athol. The works have occurred in three stages to three different sections of this bustling multifuntional strip.

The upgrades have involved community consultation to help continue to develop the area as a vibrant and friendly hub, with a diverse range of thriving businesses.

Stage 2 of this project will be completed later this year and has seen upgrades including

• New footpath paving to match the paving used in other areas

• Planting of additional trees along the footpaths

• The creation of two new pedestrian crossings to make it easier to cross Prospect Road

• The creation of a landscaped raised median to the south of Kintore Avenue to help highlight the shopping area and create an entrance statement

• The installation of peak hour bike lanes on both sides of the road

• Improved bus stops and a new bus shelter

Stage 3 of the project will be completed by next year and will also include additional pedestrian crossings, new trees and upgrades to footpaths and bike lanes. An improved entrance to Prospect Road from Grand Junction Road is also planned.

Several public artworks referencing weaving have also been installed along Prospect Road. The theme was chosen because weaving is a popular and significant activity in many cultures, and the artwork reflects the diverse groups that work together in the Kilburn and Blair Athol areas to weave the community together.

A birthday for our new clipper shipThe City of Adelaide, clipper ship now located at Dock 1 in Port Adelaide’s Inner Harbor, is about to celebrate an historic birthday.

One of the last two clipper ships surviving in the world today, she will celebrate her 150th birthday on 7 May 2014. The City of Adelaide Preservation Trust is planning a birthday celebration for this special occasion and hopes to have the ship open to the general public later in the year.

Built in 1864, the City of Adelaide is famous for being specially designed as a passenger ship. For over a quarter of a century the City of Adelaide carried English, Scottish, Cornish, German, Danish, Irish and other migrants to South Australia. According to the Australian Register of Historic Vessels, she is now the oldest ship in Australia.

From the summary of the voyages from England to South Australia, it is known that at least 889 passengers were ‘landed safely’ from the City of Adelaide at Port Adelaide over 23 years.

It is recognised that this list is incomplete and additional names remain to be discovered. On the other hand, there were also passengers who did not stay – such as the Governor of Western Australia’s entourage, and Captain Alston’s wife and child who lived on board.

The City of Adelaide also imported trade goods into South Australia and carried South Australian exports such as copper, wool and wheat to Britain on the return voyages. For further information about the ship visit the City of Adelaide Preservation Trust website www.cityofadelaide.org.au

Take a trip on a tall shipSouth Australia’s sail training vessel, the One & All has been providing sail training and youth development to the people of South Australia for over 25 years. The One & All aims to enrich the lives of all who come in contact with her. The One & All Youth Development Program is unique in South Australia as the only opportunity for young people between the ages of 15 and 23 to acquire new skills aboard a traditional sailing ship. Each voyage provides participants with challenging and inspirational experiences that increase self-awareness, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and create a strong sense of responsibility. During the past two and a half years, the vessel has not had an operator and hence, been unable to operate full time. The One & All has not been sold, but the Friends of the One & All have kept the vessel moving during this time. The ship has a number of voyages planned, giving you the opportunity to set said for a day- or a whole weekend! A Twilight Sail is scheduled for Saturday 3 May and a Day Sail is scheduled for Sunday 15 June. Weekend Sails will occur over Easter from Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April, and over ANZAC day from Friday 25 April to Sunday 27 April. To book a cruise, or for further enquiries, contact Stan on 0432 495 603 or visit the One & All website for more details- www.communitywebs.org/FriendsOneAndAll

The money raised returns to a fund that helps the youth of South Australia have the opportunity of a life time and learn to enjoy sailing.

The Elected Member body of Port Adelaide Enfield Council is made up of the Mayor and 17 Ward Councillors, who meet monthly to discuss community issues and make decisions that affect community and business life.

Council Elections are held every four years and will occur again in November, at which time all current Council positions become vacant. Although Councillors represent a particular ward within Council, the Mayor and Councillors are elected by voters across the City and have a responsibility to the City as a whole.

All Council Members who commence their roles after this election are elected for a four year term of office, so after this year the next Council election will be held in 2018.

It is important to note that if you are already enrolled on the State Electoral Roll as a resident of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, you will automatically be included on Council’s voters roll and will receive your ballot papers in the post. You do not need to enroll again.

If you are 17 years of age and enrolled as a provisional voter on the State Electoral Roll, and you turn 18 by the Close of Voting on Friday 7 November, you are entitled to vote and will receive your ballot papers.
