This program is grant-funded by the Salem Health & Wellness Foundation through Inspira Health Network Cancer Services.

Karen has more than 20 years of experiencesupporting women emotionally, physicallyand spiritually to give birth naturally. Shefounded Gentle Beginnings as a solo practicein 1995 and has since grown the practice to include three additional midwives. Karenearned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing fromRutgers University, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing and a certificate in Mid-wifery from the University of Pennsylvania.She has been on the graduate school faculty in the Midwifery Department at theUniversity of Pennsylvania as an instructor of intrapartum, postpartum and newborncare, and continues to supervise midwiferystudents in the clinical setting. Karen serves asa board member for the Southern New JerseyPerinatal Cooperative, and is an officer ofFamily Health Initiatives. She also regularlyparticipates in speaking events where she discusses women’s health issues andwater birth.

Lindsay Dauphinee, C.N.M., M.S.N.

Lindsay joined Gentle Beginnings in 2012 asa midwife with an extensive background inconducting research for women’s health issues and has had her work published in numerous academic journals. She earned aBachelor of Science in Human Biology with a focus on Women’s Health from Brown University and a Master of Science in Nursingand a certificate in Midwifery from the University of Pennsylvania. Lindsay previouslyworked with women internationally in Mexico where she developed a humanizationof birth project and helped to set up a midwifery school, and in Honduras whereshe advocated for women’s health issues.Prior to joining Gentle Beginnings, Lindsayworked at a birth center in Delaware whereshe delivered babies naturally and attendedwater births.

Bernadette Lloyd-Sobolow, C.N.M., M.S.N.

Bernadette joined the practice in 2014 withmore than 28 years’ experience as a midwife.Bernadette holds a Bachelor of Science inNursing from Rhode Island College and aMaster of Science in Nurse Midwifery fromthe University of Pennsylvania. In 2002, shereturned to the University of Pennsylvaniawhere she earned a Post-Graduate TeachingCertificate and is currently a clinical facultymember. Gentle Beginnings welcomed Waverly to itsmidwifery practice in the summer of 2015.Waverly earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociologyand Anthropology from Swarthmore Collegein 2007. She then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing. Prior to joining Gentle Beginnings,Waverly worked as a registered nurse andchildbirth educator with the SoutheastHealth Center Latina Centering Group inPhiladelphia and then as a certified nursemidwife and clinical faculty member withRowan University’s OBGYN group. While at Rowan, Waverly lectured on the topic ofnatural childbirth in support of labor withoutmedication at Rowan University’s School ofMedicine. Currently, she also serves as a clinical associate working with certified nurse midwife students at the University of Pennsylvania.
