HENDERSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE is committed to preparing students for what comes next and serving as a beacon of opportunity. We are committed to offering a better life to our students—and, with our partner Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges, to offering a better life for a better Kentucky. HCC faculty and staff focus on that better life every day as they offer academic and workforce programs of study and student services designed to help individuals reach their educational goals in an encouraging and approachable learning environment. And they are engaged in the life of our community—providing support and education to business and industry, offering cultural opportunities, serving as volunteers and leaders to other organizations. HCC is invested in the success of every student. We are proud that our students perform well as they enter the workforce and that they are often more successful than university students as they transfer for a four-year degree. Better Lives for a Better Kentucky—a vision we accomplish with many thanks for the support of our Board of Directors, College Foundation, Program Advisory Boards, donors, community members, education partners, regional business and industry, and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. A vision we are proud to share with you in this annual report. And, a vision we could not take on were it not for those whom we are proud to call the students of Henderson Community College. With our appreciation, Dr. Kris WilliamsPresident, HCC

Last year, HCC had 231 students graduate with Associate’s degrees and awarded 175 certificates. In fact, as a system of 16 colleges, KCTCS—the Kentucky Community and Technical College system, SET A NEW RECORD FOR NUMBER OF GRADUATES AND CREDENTIALS AWARDED in the 2016-2017 academic year with 16,146 students graduating from KCTCS colleges with 34,502 credentials.

RECORDS

In the last five years, HCC has awarded 1,062 Associates’ degrees and 918 certificates. PART OF THIS INCREASE IN GRADUATES IS DUE TO SPECIAL PROJECTS SUPPORTED BY THE COLLEGE FOUNDATION, including a consultant-led initiative to review the college’s first year experiences—the orientation, classes, and support provided our new students and a separate initiative that focused on how we can give more students the opportunity to transfer directly to a university.

HELPING STUDENTS

SUCCEED

“HCC is small enough that teachers know who you are and are willing to go the extra mile to help you succeed.Whitney MorphettElementary EducationMSU-Henderson Alumnus

Enrollment increased this fall—overall student enrollment is at 1,479 students—A 12% INCREASE FROM LAST FALL. This significant enrollment gain includes HCC’s pilot Early College Academy, where juniors from high school take all their courses for their last two years at the college and use the courses for dual credit at their high school as well. The juniors will graduate from HCC with their Associate’s degree a few weeks before they graduate from high school.

CREATING NEW OPPORTUNITIES

TO GROW

“HCC is a wonderful place for students to get a solid start to their educational journey and it has been a great place for me to teach.Tony StrawnCommunications ProfessorHenderson Community College

Over 80% of HCC’s students need support from federal financial aid and local scholarships to attend the college. THIS COMMUNITY’S GENEROSITY IS LEGEND.

HCC distributed over $178,000 in various scholarships for 16-17. Those scholarships include Rotary Colonels to College Scholarships—recipients started at HCC in fall of 2013; as of May of this year, $253,000 has been provided in Rotary Colonels to College scholarships to 159 Scholars.

INVESTING IN OUR

STUDENTS

“I live in Henderson and I am kept very busy raising my two boys and my 14-year-old brother. I couldn’t do this without the help of the Ready to Work Program, which I’ve been in since I started here.Amber McLainBusiness Administration (in progress)Henderson Community College

KCTCS is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary and recently did a study across the Commonwealth to understand how the colleges support our communities. It comes down to the fact that we create BETTER LIVES FOR A BETTER KENTUCKY.

Here at HCC we offer a better life for our community as we work to prepare our students for what comes next. You can see the future from here.
