Past, Present, and FutureIn 2019, we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stroum Jewish Community Center on Mercer Island. Here’s a preview of how we plan to honor our past, celebrate our present, and pave the way into the future.

HONORING OUR PASTThe Circle of Friends Luncheon is a long-standing annual tradition and successful fundraiser for the SJCC. In the past 13 years, the luncheon has raised more than $4.5 million to support the programs and services that are important to so many.

As we look for new ways to celebrate our community and raise funds to support the J, we’ll honor the legacy of the luncheon by rededicating the Chai Society as the Circle of Friends giving society. When you give to the Stroum Jewish Community Center, you become part of a community of donors united in their support of our vision, mission, and impact. Our generous donors energize the J’s growth, enhance accessibility, and enrich our welcoming character. We are grateful to honor those who support the SJCC at every level in our Circle of Friends giving society.

CELEBRATING OUR PRESENTGet ready for a great party with a purpose! We are excited to kick off our anniversary year with a casino-themed celebration and fundraiser, Diamonds, Denim, and Dice, on Saturday, January 12, at the J. This celebration will be our largest fundraiser of the year. Planning is underway to create a dazzling event that will bring our community together to enjoy an evening of delicious food and drink, schmoozing, music, and games—all while raising money to keep our programs and services affordable and accessible to all.

PAVING THE WAY INTO OUR FUTUREWe are embarking on an exciting journey to envision the future of the SJCC—a new journey for some and a familiar one for others. This is a time to build on the collective experience and wisdom of the past while embracing new momentum, and the many new people who are moving to the Puget Sound. Beginning with our celebration in January, we look forward to involving the community, sharing our progress, and making exciting things happen for our collective future.

TICKETS! TICKETS!11,000 tickets were sold to more than 75 Arts + Ideas programs, including the Seattle Jewish Film Festival.

Tributes and Memorials Tribute and memorial gifts are a great way to honor loved ones on special occasions, like birthdays, bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings and anniversaries; provide condolences; or offer get well wishes. With each tribute, a card is sent to your honoree or honoree’s family notifying them of your thoughtfulness.

With a donation of $500, you get unlimited tributes/memorials for an entire year.

» MAKE A TRIBUTEcontact Development Manager Jenna Sytman at 206-388-1998 or [email protected] or donate at SJCC.org

Support the J + Year-End Gift PlanningCommunity support propels the SJCC’s mission, as membership and program fees, tuition, and ticket sales do not cover the needs of our growing community. We rely on your support to ensure the SJCC remains affordable and accessible to all.

» MAKE AN OUTRIGHT GIFT TODAY Donations provide the quickest and most significant opportunity to provide immediate program and scholarship support. Gifts may be made online or by returning your gift in the enclosed envelope. You can also request a distribution from your qualified donor-advised fund or charitable checking account.

» APPRECIATED ASSETS Consider donating appreciated stock to make your annual or year-end gift simple. Stock, bonds, mutual funds, and life insurance policies can all fuel the important work we do. You also continue to receive a charitable income tax deduction and pay no capital gains tax if your gift is made with appreciated stock held for more than one year.

» IRA ROLLOVER CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTION If you are 70 and a half years or older, you can take advantage of a qualified IRA Rollover distribution. It’s a simple way to benefit the J and get tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity like the Stroum Jewish Community Center without having to pay income taxes on the money you contribute.
