The Turkish Muslim community developed divergent and shiCing views on yoga pracEce in recent years as a reacEon to the increasing popularity of the pracEce. The presentaEon will examine three posiEons: the posiEon that deems yoga acceptable as long as it remains a sports acEvity, that even the purely physical aspects of yoga can become an avenue for luring Muslims to the hereEcal spirituality of yoga, and finally that its spirituality is compaEble with the teachings of the Quran. While these facEons mostly agree on what yoga is and which spiritual elements it entails, they proceed to draw conflicEng conclusions regarding the compaEbility of yoga with Islam.
