Yasunori MatsumotoI joined YASKAWA ELECTRIC CORPORATION Japan way back in 1985 and in 2011 I got the opportunity to look after robot business in India. During my 3 years stay in India I observed that safety is the least concerned factor in India, either

in factories, robot working area or driving on Indian roads.

Health and safety of the employees is an important aspect of a company’s smooth and successful functioning. This is because, proper attention to the safety and welfare of the employees can yield valuable returns to a company by improving employee morale, reducing absenteeism and enhancing productivity, minimizing potential of work-related injuries, illnesses and increasing the quality of manufactured products and/ or rendered services.

Accident can happen anywhere round the globe but we should take upmost care to avoid the accidents. My message to all of you is that in case of any accident never escape from the accident area until the problem is resolved or fixed. Secondly, send information about the accident to the concerned persons immediately and take proactive approach so that the damage can be minimised. Third most important thing is to make action plan and implement so that the accident should not repeat in future.

The cost of injury prevention is far less than the cost of an injury. A safe and healthy workplace attracts and retains quality employees. It’s an asset to a community, operates more efficiently and enjoys a healthy bottom line.

It makes sense to run an effective safety and health program because your people deserve it and your customers demand it.

My vision is to make YASKAWA INDIA a better place to work and all of us will work towards making it number 1 robot company in India.

Dear All,

Time is running so fast! 3 months have passed already after Lok Sabha election, and during this term we are facing global and drastic events like the ones in Ukraine, GAZA and World football cup in Brazil, I hope every YIND members keep notice such issues as a kind of common sense.

With regard to our business, based on the result of 1Q we are not in bad position and perhaps will be able to be optimistic for 2Q as well considering about general economy in India today, of course we always must keep attention to the situation carefully, anyway let’s continue our work together.

By the way, I was a bit surprised about entry number of Bangalore Marathon on 19th October, it is more than 50! The most senior gentleman is Imamura-san as you know, his entry is Half Marathon and I hope all other members in same category will enjoy the race with him. For all participates, the record is not important, to finish is more and the most is to enjoy from your preparation to achievement without any accident/injury.

Best regards,

Akinori UrakawaPresident and C.E.O.

New Products LaunchU1000 LaunchDate: 23rd and 24th June, 2014

Locations: Bangalore and Mumbai.

Considering the need for low-harmonic drive in Indian market and the increased awareness to save energy among the industrial users, YASKAWA and L&T today introduced the U1000- world’s first Matrix Converter.

The new YASKAWA Matrix Converter is an energy-saving inverter without a DC-bus. Regenerative braking energy is fed back into the power grid, while sinusoidal input current reduces losses and allows a power grid-friendly operation. The new YASKAWA Matrix Converter is significantly compacter than usual regeneration solutions and the first choice for innovative, energy-efficient drive solutions with or without power regeneration. U1000 is one of the best drives in low-harmonic class in market today among the competitive products considering our price and quality.

Some of the advantages of U1000 are:

• Integrated power regeneration – No heating dissipation in braking

resistors, less cooling is required for the switch cabinet; this saves energy and reduces costs

• Power grid-friendly and with minimized losses – Sinusoidal input current reduces

losses in transformers and lines and lowers the potential for interfering with other components

The event started with welcome speech by Akinori Urakwa-san. In his welcome speech, Urakawa-san also shared vision of YASKAWA’s contribution to the Indian society.

The event progressed with introductory speech by Rajesh-san followed by Siego Yamada-san, Manager, YEC who gave a brief presentation about YASKAWA Electric Corporation, Japan.

This introductory was attended by top system integrators, distributors and OEMs from different parts of India.

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.

New Segment Captured: TRACTORStarting of this financial year was encouraging for YIND-R in the terms of grabbing the new emerging market in Tractor Industry.

First time in India we got an order for painting robots from Sonalika Tractors which is the second largest producer of tractors in India. Sonalika tractors are in the pace of grabbing the opportunity to capture the tractor market in African Continent and considering this they are more aggressive towards the quality of their products as well as controlling the paint wastage.

Today not only Sonalika tractors but also the other competitors of Sonalika are seriously looking at the emerging market of Africa and south Asian countries. Last year the tractor industry had a growth of 30% in India and they had shown the same growing figures in the starting of the new financial year.

Now many more tractor manufacturers are looking forward for a robotic paint shop in order to improve their quality and production volume, in this context. New Holland has already started with their new paint booth with the provision of Painting robots in it. There is also a growth of opportunity for painting robots at Mahindra Swaraj, Farmtrac, Tafe, HMT and many more.

Baisakhi FestivalBaisakhi is also known as harvest festival is celebrated with great devotion and fun. Know more on Baisakhi festival and its celebrations in India.

The harvest festival of Baisakhi, celebrated on April 13/14 every year, is a time for renewed faith and energy. People of north India, especially in the villages of Punjab, swing to the beats of drums and celebrate the day with religious fervor.

Known as ‘Khalsa Sirjana Diwas’ (the birth of khalsa), Baisakhi today is celebrated not only by Sikhs and Punjabis, but by all communities with equal enthusiasm. Many Punjabis and Sikhs celebrate Baisakhi in their own way. These are different from the rituals of harvest festival practiced in the villages. Celebrated when the Rabi crop ripens, Baisakhi is not confined too villages and fields only, but now has an urban presence.

The real celebrations are in the villages of Punjab when the crop is harvested. On this day the gurudwaras are illuminated and there is a 48-hour akhand path and bhog. The day is usually marked with kirtan, kadah prashad and langar. Womenfolk prefer to dress up in white suit with orange dupatta on this day while going to the gurudwara.

For Sikhs it holds special significance, as this is an auspicious day many people all over India. As far as the tradition is concerned it varies from family to family. There is a path and bhog followed by kadah prashad and langar.

Buddha PurnimaBaisakhi is also known as harvest Buddha Purnima - Buddha Purnima, reverentially, the most important day for the followers of Buddhism, commemorates Lord Buddha’s enlightenment in 588 B.C and also his attainment of the highest of spiritual goals, ‘Nirvana’ in Bodh Gaya and ‘Parinirvana’ (or “final cessation”) in Kushinagara. Alternatively called Buddha Jayanti, this day consecrates the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha who was born in Lumbini, Nepal. As the name itself suggests, Buddha Purnima is observed on a bright full moon in the Vaisakha month (April/May), a time especially suited for introspection, charity and puja. This year, Buddha Purnima in India will be celebrated on May 14, 2014.

HistoryHistorically, the importance of Buddha Purnima goes back to the era of Chinese scholarship where the day is mentioned in the works of the Chinese scholar, Fa-Hien. Buddha Purnima is known by different names in different countries. As per the native tongue of different countries, Nepal observes ‘Swanyapunhi’, Singapore upholds Lord Buddha’s teachings on ‘Vesak Day’, Indonesia celebrates ‘Hari Waisak’, while Thailand commemorates this day as ‘Visakha Bucha Day’. Buddha Jayanti is celebrated across south-east Asian countries that have a recognizable Buddhist population. Countries that observe Buddha Purnima include Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Tibet, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Korea, China, Cambodia, and Japan.

Good FridayGood Friday Holiday - April 18 is Good Friday. Christians across the world observe this day as a remembrance of the pain and suffering Jesus Christ went through for the sake of mankind. There are several explanations as to why such a day is called “good”. The simplest explanation is: In Christ’s death, God had the last word. His people were redeemed by the death of Jesus Christ.

Good Friday service in the Roman Catholic Church has three separate parts. It includes prayers and readings, the veneration of the cross which is a Latin rite that involves kissing the foot of the crucifix and finally, Holy Communion - receiving the body of Jesus in the form of bread.

This is often preceded by what is known as the “Three Hours Service”. It is held from noon to 3 pm, and involves the recitation of hymns, prayers and sermons focused on Jesus’ last words on the Cross. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”.

Good Friday and the following Holy Saturday are the only days of the year when Mass is not conducted in Roman Catholic churches. Catholics mark the day by attending church and reliving the 14 Stations of the Cross - the events that took place leading up to, and including, Christ’s crucifixion, death and entombment.

Employees Annual Health Checkup Camp @ Robotic Division

Annual health check- up camp is set every year for welfare of employees.

Under this program a team of qualified doctors visited YIND-R ON 16TH APRIL, 2014 from pre-approved medical Centre.

Various tests such as blood sample collection, Chest X-RAY, ECG, Body fat analysis, physical examination, eye vision tests were carried out for all employees.

This was followed by testing these samples and getting them checked at their labs and detailed report was submitted to each and every employee.

Not only this the doctors again visited the YIND-R premises for consultation of employees after all received the reports.

A dietitian also visited and consulted with each and every employee on proper food habits and to guide about healthy living.

Today’s diversity and Negotiation skillsThe term ‘Diversity in Business’ is often misinterpreted as simply in relation to race or ethnicity. In reality it is more than this. Based on my experience in working with multiple customers and colleagues from most parts of the world, I would say ‘Diversity is about maintaining a varied workforce, in other contexts including gender, age, personal and professional background’.

As we progress towards the 21st century, it is becoming clearer that a company promoting a diverse workforce is better equipped to understand the

demographics of the market it serves and which will contribute to its progress.

In many societies, especially the developed ones in west and a few in the east, employers are bound by regulations that promote equality between genders and ethnic groups.

During my MBA at one of the oldest universities in the UK, Equalities bill was passed to encourage companies to take positive action in recruiting women, ethnic minorities and older candidates. This bill forces firms to publish their gender pay gaps.

Diversity doesn’t only contribute to growth and an increased understanding of customer needs, it also develops a profit ethic by:

• Move into new areas of interest and source a wide range of customers.

• Increase employee efficiency due to cross-functional teams capable of diverse roles.

• Allow organizations to build a strong reputation as diverse ones.

The global market today is changing and if firms want to succeed they’ll have to diversify. Many organizations fail miserably due to peer pressure to diversify without understanding the organizational culture; diversity in business can be achieved only if there’s a culture to support it.

Negotiation is something that all individuals poses to a certain extent and which can with learning and practice be developed.

The crucial factor to short and long-term success, in the biggest to the smallest negotiations, is an acceptance by both the parties that each need to emerge from the negotiation as a winner.

That isn’t always easy!

Bad negotiation skills lead to one or both parties being at disgruntled, causing a dislike which, in times, can flare up into arguments which eventually takes to the extreme, into violence and even war.

Looking back at the Boston Tea Party; the Cuban Missile Crisis; Ball- tampering affair in cricket, all are examples where negotiations failed with results ranging from accusation of racism, to war, to the threat of nuclear holocaust.

Negotiation is generally considered as a ‘soft’ skill, unlike the other rigorous academic courses; examples include mathematical modelling, Finance etc.

Creativity is important; while remembering what your aim is and what position you can negotiate from, it means not having illogical position prior to important meetings.

What it takes to be a successful negotiator?

• Preparation- understand your own objectives, concerns and perspectives and your counterpart’s.

• Creativity- be creative and come up with a range of possible solutions.

• Ground-work- proper research so that important data and figures at your fingertips.

• Building Relationships- your ability to manage relationship with counterpart.

• Tactics- your ability to systematically change tactics during the negotiation ‘dance a different dance’ if things aren’t working, or to change tactics to play your counterpart’s game.

Negotiator’s Dilemma

‘You have two choices. Either you confess or you do not confess to the crime. If you confess to the crime and your partner also confesses, you will each receive ten years in jail (it was a very serious crime). If you confess but your partner does not, you will be set free, after giving evidence that convicts your partner, and he will get 20 years in jail. If you do not confess and your partner does, he will go free and you will get 20 years in jail. If, however, neither of you confess, you will both be convicted of a minor charge (wasting police time?) and you will serve three years in jail.’Source: Prisoner’s dilemma, Poundstone 1992

Inspirational Story

There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat….. One day, the horse fell ill and he called the veterinarian, who said: - Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I’ll come back on the 3rd day and if he’s not better, we’re going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation. The next day, they gave him the medicine and left. The goat approached the horse and said: - Be strong, my friend.

Get up or else they’re going to put you to sleep!

On the second day, they gave him the medicine and left. The goat came back and said:

• Come on buddy, get up or else you’re going to die! Come on, I’ll help you get up.

Let’s go! One, two, three…

On the third day, they came to give him the medicine and the vet said:

• Unfortunately, we’re going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise, the virus might spread and infect the other horses. After they left, the goat approached the horse and said:

• Listen pal, it’s now or never! Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up!

That’s it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two, three… Good, good. Now faster, come on…… Fantastic! Run, run more! Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you’re a champion!!!

All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting:

• It’s a miracle! My horse is cured. We must have a grand** **party. Let’s kill the goat!!!!*

***

The Lesson:* this often happens in the workplace & life in general. Nobody truly knows which employee or people actually deserves the merit of success & are in fact contributing towards success, or who’s actually contributing the necessary support to make things happen. Be grateful.

Remember………

*LEARNING TO LIVE WITHOUT RECOGNITION IS A SKILL!!!!*

If anyone ever tells you that your work is unprofessional, remember:

Amateurs built the Ark (which saved all the species)

and professionals built the Titanic (all died tragically)

In everything the ends well defined are the secret of durable success.

became a proud father of a Baby Boy

• Our Colleague, Suresh (QA Engineer) son 1st year birth day celebration moments with YIND colleagues & family members.

• Baby name: Khushikraj S B

In a few days, things will change. Every day will no longer be our own to discover; there will be a schedule on some days, which after this year, will go to a schedule every day, and we will now be connected to the school year, every year. I am truly excited for you to start pre-school. I know you love your teacher and I’m certain you will love the independence that school brings. You already want to do everything on your own. And even though sometimes your pants are on backwards and your shoes are on the wrong feet, you are so proud of yourself that you did it, on. Your. Own.

So I know you’re ready.

I know that I can’t teach you all that you need to know. I will always be here for you. I will always show you as much as I can, but some things have to be learned outside of our four walls.

It’s just pre-school. It’s just a few days a week. Not that much is changing. But it’s what pre-school represents. School is fun, but it isn’t without its challenges. I don’t want you to encounter bullies,

unfairness, or situations where you are scared. But I know that some of these are inevitable.

But, my sweet son, I want you to know that our four walls are your safe place. It’s the place you can be yourself, be comforted and feel confident that you are loved for who you are. No matter what happens ‘out there,’ here is where you will be unconditionally loved and supported. Although I’ve spent the majority of your first three years at your side, now it’s time for you to have some space, a chance to grow on your own, a chance to be your own person without me right there to tell you how to handle certain new situations.

I know you’re ready.

I hope that on the first day, when I give you a kiss and a hug, and hide those few tears behind my oversized sunglasses, you will skip into your classroom happily. I hope you don’t cry. I hope you don’t get scared. You may be a ‘big kid’ now and want to do everything by yourself, but you still are just a little boy. And I know sometimes, you still have little boy emotions.

You still like to snuggle with me when you watch Chota Bheem in POGO.

You still jump with anxiety and surprise when you hear thunder.

And you will always be my baby boy, no matter how independent you are. So, my little one, I’m so excited for you to start school; to grow, to change, and to discover.

Good luck on your first day at school, but I don’t think you’ll need luck at all.
