Senior Bradyn Thomas runs the ball during a home game against Millard South. At the start of the 2015 season Thomas was the starting quarterback. Halfway through the season, however, he switched positions to play wide receiver. Thomas was a starting cornerback on defense all season long.

How did it feel to win

“It was very bittersweet. I put my heart and soul into football this year and to come up short hurts a little. But, I’ll never forget all the fun and glory I had with my dogs under those Friday night lights.” -Matt Benjamin, 12

Seniors Morgan Mayer and Matthew Rodriguez-Benjamin, along with a host of other FHS defensive players, work together to bring down a South Sioux City ball carrier. Fremont went on to defeat the Cardinals 41-12 for their first home win of the season. “My favorite memory was getting a pick-six against Burke, because it doesn’t really happen a lot with defensive linemen,” said Mayer. Not only that, but it’s a great feeling having the team scream for you and slapping your helmet.”

Senior slotback Christian Harmon looks for an opening against Omaha Northwest. Harmon transferred to Fremont early this year and it was his first year playing high school football. He scored five touchdowns for the Tigers this season.

Senior tight end Ethan Ferguson barrels over a would-be South Sioux City tackler. Ferguson said the highlight of his season was when the varsity team and coaches sang “Sweet Caroline” in the locker room after the Columbus game.

With a new season comes new memories being made, and new personal bests being set. The Fremont football team was an ex-ample of that this season. By continuing to improve their win-loss record, to earning a shutout victory over rival Columbus, soph-omore quarterback Riley Harms said the season was full of exciting moments.

“We won four games this year for the first time in eight years, which is awesome,” said Harms. “It gives us something to build off of for next year.”

Behind a good season are players who stepped-up and made things happen on-and-off the field; players who put in the ex-tra work to make sure their team was on task and playing their hardest at all times.

“The entire senior class showed leader-ship,” said senior Bradyn Thomas. “Matt Rodriguez-Benjamin and Spencer Hall re-ally showed leadership, though, because they were very vocal and they usually were the ones that would speak up. Matt was a hard worker, and in the off-season, he was the first one in the weight room and the last one to leave.”

Setting personal bests is always a goal for athletes during the season. Senior run-

ning back Sean Lambert broke the career rushing record at FHS. Lambert is now the all-time leading rusher at FHS with 2,179 yards.

“A lot of hard work went into setting the record,” said Lambert. “Dedication at practices and everyday in the summer at weights definitely was something that helped a lot as well. My coaches pushing me was something that helped me tremen-dously and I don’t think I could have done it without them, the O-line blocking for me, and my teammates supporting me.”

Fremont coaches agree that competing in Class A as one of the smaller schools, and playing team’s with larger rosters, is always difficult. Fremont Coach Seth McClain said his team really had to step-up and prove what they could do.

“It is really gratifying to see the guys have success, because they put so much work into the whole process,” said McClain. “The players are the ones who have made our program better over the years, as they have really bought into all the work it takes to have a good football team.”

McClain has been the head coach for the Tigers for four years. McClain said he is proud of the improvement the Tigers made during the 2015 season.
