    Foreword

There was a flurry of excitement when we firsttalked about about making a collection of the things we had

all done during the first year. And after all, first year was

the only time when all of us stayed together before being

moved to the respective blocks. So, it was clear that we

were doing it once we were done with our exams. And then

many contributed their ideas, works and helped us out invarious stages. We are thankful to them all. It would be

more fortunate if we had a better coverage of Pragnya and

Rhythms, but we hope it will take you to relive the moment

for a while. It is only then that our work will pay off. We

have also added a few science and fashionable articles tomake it more peppy. We hope all the glancers of this

YearBook GLANS will get a good glance of the year and

    what more,happy reading......

    Thankyou,

    The Team.

    PREFACE

What Is Dark Energy? Now when we think about the universe what do we

    know about it ,all we know is that it consists ofstars,planets,asteroids ,comets,huge gas giants etc etcetc;

But these are just the physical celestial bodies that weknow ,you will be astonished to know that these bodies

all together just occupy hardly 5% of the universe. So now the big question what lies in between them??

The answer lies in the concept of darkenergy.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    17/87

More is unknown than is known. We know how much

dark energy there is because we know how it affects theUniverse's expansion. Other than that, it is a completemystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out thatroughly 68% of the Universe is dark energy. Darkmatter makes up about 27%. The rest - everything onEarth, everything ever observed with all of our

instruments, allnormal matter - adds up to less than 5%of the Universe. Come to think of it, maybe it shouldn'tbe called "normal" matter at all, since it is such a small

    fraction of theUniverse..

    18/87

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    19/87

One explanation for dark energy is that it is a property of space. AlbertEinstein was the first person to realize that empty space is not nothing.

Space has amazing properties, many of which are just beginning to beunderstood. The first property that Einstein discovered is that it ispossible for more space to come into existence. Then one version ofEinstein's gravity theory, the version that contains a cosmologicalconstant makes a second prediction: "empty space" can possess its ownenergy. Because this energy is a property of space itself, it would not bediluted as space expands. As more space comes into existence, more of

this energy-of-space would appear. As a result, this form of energywould cause the Universe to expand faster and faster. Unfortunately, noone understands why the cosmological constant should even be there, much less why it would have exactly the right value to cause theobserved acceleration of the Universe.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    20/87

Another explanation for how space acquiresenergy comes from the quantum theory ofmatter. In this theory, "empty space" isactually full of temporary ("virtual") particlesthat continually form and then disappear.

But when physicists tried to calculate howmuch energy this would give empty space, the answer came out wrong - wrong by a lot.The number came out 10120 times too big. That's a 1 with 120 zeros after it.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    21/87

Another explanation for dark energy is that it is anew kind of dynamical energy fluid or field, something that fills all of space but somethingwhose effect on the expansion of the Universe is theopposite of that of matter and normal energy. Some theorists have named this "quintessence,"

after the fifth element of the Greek philosophers. But, if quintessence is the answer, we still don'tknow what it is like, what it interacts with, or why itexists.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    22/87

A last possibility is that Einstein's theory of gravity is not correct.

That would not only affect the expansion of the Universe, but itwould also affect the way that normal matter in galaxies andclusters of galaxies behaved. This fact would provide a way todecide if the solution to the dark energy problem is a new gravitytheory or not: we could observe how galaxies come together inclusters. But if it does turn out that a new theory of gravity isneeded, what kind of theory would it be? How could it correctlydescribe the motion of the bodies in the Solar System, asEinstein's theory is known to do, and still give us the differentprediction for the Universe that we need? There are candidatetheories, but none are compelling. So the mystery continues.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    23/87

The thing that is needed to decide betweendark energy possibilities - a property ofspace, a new dynamic fluid, or a new theoryof gravity - is more data, better data.

    DARK MATTER?

By fitting a theoretical model of the composition of the Universe to thecombined set of cosmological observations, scientists have come up with the

composition that we described above, ~68% dark energy, ~27% dark matter,~5% normal matter. What is dark matter?

We are much more certain what dark matter is not than we are what it is. First, itis dark, meaning that it is not in the form of stars and planets that we see.Observations show that there is far too little visible matter in the Universe tomake up the 27% required by the observations. Second, it is not in the form ofdark clouds of normal matter, matter made up of particles called baryons. We

know this because we would be able to detect baryonic clouds by theirabsorption of radiation passing through them. Third, dark matter is notantimatter, because we do not see the unique gamma rays that are producedwhen antimatter annihilates with matter. Finally, we can rule out large galaxy-sized black holes on the basis of how many gravitational lenses we see. Highconcentrations of matter bend light passing near them from objects furtheraway, but we do not see enough lensing events to suggest that such objects tomake up the required 25% dark matter contribution.

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    26/87

However, at this point, there are still a few dark matterpossibilities that are viable. Baryonic matter could stillmake up the dark matter if it were all tied up in browndwarfs or in small, dense chunks of heavy elements. These possibilities are known as massive compact haloobjects, or "MACHOs". But the most common view is

that dark matter is not baryonic at all, but that it ismade up of other, more exotic particles like axions orWIMPS (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles).

Weighing just 30gm more than an ordinary football it is one of thebest portable power generating devices.1 out of 5 people are living without electricity in most of the underdeveloped and developing countries.

After playing with the ball, the child can return home and use the ball toconnect a LED lamp to read, study, or illuminate the home. JessicaMatthews, CEO and co-founder of Uncharted Play, explains how itworks: As the ball rolls, the mechanism also rolls, harnessing kineticenergy and then storing it inside a simple battery,RYOT has come forward to distribute for free to many African and south

    The world of Z

Here is an excerpt from Mansoor's story on theWattpad..Read on....Morgan Bash , the dark lord of the magical world,a terrifying personality, a nightmare to people of Eeza.

Eeza was the ancient town where magic first flourished when it was brought from the Northern Kingdom of Thensa.Eeza had good people who were weak and the bad ones mighty strong. Morgan was one of those dreaded wizardswell known ,for his cruel killings. He was such a strong wizard, that even a 100 common wizards fell short to hismagical greatness.

That day Eeza testified one more cruel death of the perfume maker's son.

First the young lad was paralyzed by Morgan's Spell. He couldn't even move a finger. And then Morgan deliveredthe spell of Blazing Fire, a crimson colored light emerged from his index finger, shooting towards the young boy

where he stood motionless. His eyes turned pale, his face was dried and the moment of death was to take him.

The crimson light engulfed him like the smoke from Blacksmith's shop................

Well, we just knew our college was under sominspection and our colorful Traditional Daygot delayed. But there was something more

than just academic checking. Read on.......

During our first year, our college got inspected twice, once by UGC and then byNAAC. Being an autonomous institute, it is quite normal to be checked by the UGC.And our new syllabus books have A grade by NAAC . Well, that wasn't there lastyear. Whatever, most of us are into thinking that inspection is checking theacademics. But there were culturals too....

Mayer joined Google in 1999 as employee number 20 and wasthe company's first female engineer. During her 13 years with thecompany, she was an engineer, designer, product manager andexecutive. Mayer held key roles in Google Search,Google

Images, Google News, Google Maps,Google Books, GoogleProduct Search,Google Toolbar,iGoogle and Gmail. She alsooversaw the layout of Google's well-known, unadorned searchhomepage. In her final years with Google, she was Vice Presidentof Local, Maps, and Location Services and, before that, vicepresident of search products and user experience.

Worth at least $300 million, she isnt afraid to show off her wealth.Steve Jobs may have lived in a small, suburban home with anapple tree out front, but Marissa Mayer lives in the penthouse ofSan Franciscos Four Seasons Hotel.

Young, powerful, rich, and brilliant, Mayer is a role model formillions of women. And yet, unlike Facebooks chief operatingofficer, Sheryl Sandberg, Mayer resists calling herself a feminist. She even infuriated working mothers across the world when she

They say she is robotic, stuck up, and absurdin her obsession with detail. They say her obsession with the userexperience masks a disdain for the money-making side of thetechnology industry.

There is some truth to what they say.

And yet, a year after Mayer took over Yahoo, the companys stockprice was up 100 percent. Engineers wanted to work for Yahooagain. More importantly, so did sought-after startup CEOs likeTumblr founder David Karp, who agreed to sell his company toYahoo for $1.1 billion.

    FAITH AND SUB-CONSCIOUS

Have you ever wondered! How the great things are possible and how they are all

achieved? There is nothing called something for nothing. You have to give

something for what you intend or desire to ask.

The initiated step towards your success starts with your planning. The 6-P rule

says that the Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance . But how to

develop this? How to change your impulse of thought into its physical form?

Modern psychology believes that the human mind operates both on conscious

and unconscious level. Conscious mind receives information through the five

senses of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch. Your conscious mind keeps

tracking of what you need for thinking and operating and it filters out what you

doesnt need. Your conscious mind and what your memory retains is the

intelligence with which you normally think, reason and plan .On the other hand ,

your subconscious has access all the same information your conscious mind

receives but it doesnt reason the way your conscious mind does, it doesnt filters

and it doesnt forget. You cannot command your conscious mind to reach out and

dip into your subconscious mind. However, under certain circumstances all those

forgotten facts and ideas that are always there in your subconscious can, if theyare firmly rooted, influence your conscious attitudes and actions.

Faith is the head chemist to the mind. In modern usage faith has become almost

interchangeable with religious belief which is not the way here it is used. Faith, as

it is used here means having confidence, trust and an absolute unwavering belief

that has become something. When faith is blended with thought the subconscious

mind instantly picks up the vibration. The subconscious then translates and

    transmits into infinite intelligence.

The emotions of faith, love and sex are the most powerful of all the major positive

emotions. When the three are blended they have the effect of coloring the

thought in such a way that it instantly reaches the subconscious mind. There it

changes into the form that induces the response from infinite intelligence. Your

faith must be true on your subconscious level. If you have a nagging doubt on the

  • 7/29/2019 YearBook Glans 2012-13

    77/87

back of your mind or you just going to pretend the belief, it wont work because

your subconscious will know your doubts. Unless you have absolute total

confidence, unless you are convinced without question then you dont have faith.

HOW TO DEVELOP FAITH: Faith is the state of the mind that can be induced orcreated by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind through

the principle of auto-suggestion. You can learn techniques that you can convince

your subconscious mind that you believe you will receive for what you ask. Your

subconscious will act upon that belief and pass it back to you in the form of faith

followed by definite plans to produce that what you desire. This is not only true

for positive emotions including negative emotions. When a negative impulse of

thought that is repeatedly passed onto your subconscious mind often enough is

finally accepted and acted upon the subconscious mind. The subconscious then

translates that impulse into its physical equivalent by the most practical procedure

available. Some people always say that they cant achieve because of some

strange force that they call bad luck for which they think believe have no

control , but the truth is that they are the creators of their own misfortunes

because this negative belief in bad luck is picked up by the subconscious mind and

translates into its physical equivalent form. Your belief or faith is the element that

will determine the action of your subconscious mind. You will benefit by passing

onto your subconscious mind any desire that you wish to translate it into its

physical equivalent. The subconscious mind will transmutes into its physical

equivalent by the most direct and physical equivalent by the most direct and

practical way available. Any order that will be given to it will be carried out.

Our subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what I s real and what is

vividly imagined. To prove this, a study on supporting this was conducted with a

group of basketball players. The players were divided into three teams and the

player on each team was tested on their ability to make free throws. The teamswere then on their ability to make free throws. The teams were then separated

for a period of time and each team were given instructions which they were told

they would improve their abilities. One team was instructed to practice basket ball

on daily basis. The second team was instructed not to practice during the period

and not to even think about the basket ball. The third team was also instructed

not to practice during the period but instead the members were told to spend

their time on visualizing in detail the process of playing basket ball. At the end of

their experiment the teams were again tested. The team that rested decrease in

ability. The team that practiced marked increase in ability. But the team didnt

practice but visualized playing basket ball showed an increase in ability almost

equal to those who have practiced daily. Thus, you can deceive your subconscious

through auto-suggestion. If you convincingly plant an idea in your subconscious,

your subconscious will accept and work with the idea as it were a fact. But the

keyword is, convincingly if you try to send a message to your subconscious but in

the back of your mind if you have a nagging doubt of whether it will work? Your

subconscious will pick that also you will send mixed messages that will cancel

each other out. That is why it is necessary doing with faith!. Your subconscious

will not judge whether it is true or false, positive or negative but it does respond

to the power of the input, how emotionalizing the thought is.

It is essential for you to encourage positive emotions as the dominating forces of

your mind but faith in yourself doesnt come merely by reading instructions.

When you understand, you must begin to apply it. When you have faith in your

ability then you can you can give subconscious mind instructions which it will

accept and act upon immediately. When your mind is dominated by the emotions

it will encourage the state of mind known as faith. Faith in yourself can be created

by auto-suggestion. Auto-suggestion means self suggestion. Faith is the only

    known antidote for failure.
