As futuristic technology

of freedom is being re-defined,
and as Nelson Mandela puts it,
"Freedom is no easy walk".
Bindu OberoiCHAIR OF THE BOARD
Message from the Chair of the
Board
1
Five enriching years have zipped by and these
seem like an achievement considering the
dimensions of our vision and mission. And yet we
believe this is just the beginning of what we
anticipate to be a long and exuberant journey for
all. This year we have made a concentrated effort
in bringing our core values to the forefront in
every endeavor. Our leadership team and faculty
have together built a strong foundation which will
see us living our vision every single day.
Our growing reputation compels us to grow
cautiously and slowly, hence we have limited our
number of enrollments in the next academic year.
The restricted intake helps us maintain the quality
of the services we provide to the students. At our
end, focus in the next academic year will remain
on intensive teacher training to better the quality
of curriculum delivery and even pastoral care.
Next year the number of teachers will increase to
over 200 each bringing to the school varied
expertise and experience.
Our focus on the performing arts continues. It has
been very exciting to see the enthusiasm with
which our students are exploring their talents by
making optimum use of the new facilities like the
auditorium and music studios.
Changes are inevitable as we move into the future.
As futuristic technology takes over, the meaning
of freedom is being re-defined, and as Nelson
Mandela puts it, Freedom is no easy walk. But
our purpose is empowerment, so change seems
like an energizing tool to arrive at our goal. The
memories embedded in this book will remind us
of the enthusiasm of our students, efforts of our
teachers and the support of our parents, as we
work towards our aspirations on the path of our
mission for Oberoi International School.
This book will help you capture the
moment. I almost said Kodak
Moment, but many of you would not
even know what it means, as the time
of photo film is long gone. Maybe this
book will be an antique object in the
not so distant future, where we will
all go digital and will be looking at a
Yearbook on the screen after
downloading it from some server.

Writing these lines is a clear indication that yet
another school year nears its conclusion. For
many it is just another year and they are happy it is
over, as they look forward to the next one, for just
as many it is big step, as they may be moving from
Early Years to Primary School, or even bigger from
grade 5 to the big scary world of the Secondary,
for some it may be a move from the Middle School
to Grade 9 and for our grade 12 it is a huge move
to their adulthood. Change is always one constant
you can count on no matter where you are in life.
For our school this year is a big one, we are now 5
years old! A full FIVE! WOW, so it is only 5 years
ago we had 79 students walk in for the first time in
our then, semi-finished building and now, 5 years
later, we are 1100 students strong and full of
energy and excitement in every corner of the
building, which is now complete with new a
Auditorium, Play School and gymnastics gym,
along with our very own recording studio. Along
with all of this, we are starting our own garden on
the filed. This year will be the last one in the history
when we still have some open classrooms, which
we did not use.
Exciting times! This book will help you capture the
moment. I almost said Kodak Moment, but
many of you would not even know what it means,
as the time of photo film is long gone. Maybe this
book will be an antique object in the not so distant
future, where we will all go digital and will be
looking at a Yearbook on the screen after
downloading it from some server. Everything
changes with the speed of light and the pace is
picking up. So let's live in the moment, let's hope
this yearbook will help you remember this
academic year no matter how important or trivial
is has been for us. It is a bit of our own OIS history
in pictures, as you look back on it many years from
now, you will remember your friends, your
teachers, all of the good times and hard times,
happy moments and perhaps some sad ones, but
overall it will help you remember your time at OIS.
Enjoy the book now and many years from now,
show it to your children as you will bring them to
OIS, by then a mature school with long and
established tradition, part of which you will have
become a legacy, and hopefully still just as
innovative then as it is now.
Be well,
Do good work,
And stay in touch.
I would hope that our students develop their
talents and abilities and we as a school
have so much to celebrate in this area.
But it seems to me that it is really
important that we keep perspective and
remember the things that really make life
worthwhile. So what would I wish for our
current students and future graduates?
Love your family and those around you,
treat all people equally with respect regardless
of background, and love yourself enough to become
a wonderful person- all the rest will follow!

Alexander SimesterVICE - PRINCIPAL
As my final year as Vice-Principal draws to a close,
I would like to take the opportunity to offer a few
reflections and a few words of thanks. What really
matters? That's a big question and the answers
we give can change as we grow and our
perception of life changes.
I suppose as one of the people responsible for a
school, one would expect that the importance of
getting good grades, or other perceived
successes would be the dominant theme of my
yearbook comment, but in truth, the
responsibility of this job, conversations with so
many students, parents and faculty have made me
ever more aware that in the grand scheme of
things these are not what really matter.
Of course, I would hope that our students develop
their talents and abilities and we as a school have
so much to celebrate in this area. But it seems to
me that it is really important that we keep
perspective and remember the things that really
make life worthwhile. So what would I wish for
our current students and future graduates? Love
your family and those around you, treat all people
equally with respect regardless of background,
and love yourself enough to become a wonderful
person- all the rest will follow!
Thanks for all your support and best wishes for the
future.

Georgina GrayHEAD - PRIMARY SCHOOL
I am writing this year book piece, I reflect back on my time in Mumbai
and particularly at OIS. I have had a great couple of years
here. I won't miss the traffic, that's for sure, but I will certainly miss our delightful students, who brighten up any day, the
wonderful staff I have met and worked with closely for two years.
Much of the growth in the Primary school is attributed to the openness, the enthusiasmand passion of our staff - well done everyone!
I will also miss the parents and the school community as a whole for their support.

What an amazing year we have had in the OIS
Primary Department during the academic year
2012-2013.
As I think back on my 2nd year at Oberoi, I can see
so many changes that have taken place and some
even more wonderful things that have happened
this year compared to last. I can't really comment
on many experiences but will reflect on a couple.
Some of our younger students were thrilled to be
taking home a piece of spinach or other vegetable
which was grown in our school community
garden, by their very own hands. I am not sure
which was the most exciting part about the
project, the prospect of growing their own
vegetables or realising that cow dung is used in
the planting beds! There were lots of smiles and
proud Grade 1s taking home the first crop.
I have also had the opportunity to go on two
residential trips this year. I went to the Magic Bus
with a group of Grade 3s and also to the
'Wilderness resort' in Goa with a group of Grade 5
students. These were most memorable trips, I
know I will remember for many years to come the
screams coming from one of the girls cabins in the
resort as a spider was seen inside cabin. The
screams reverberated throughout the whole
valley! It was a wonderful experience for our
students and getting closer to nature in all 3 of our
residential trips really is an important part of the
educational experiences we want our students to
have. We have had many parents support us again
this year, parent help and support is vital in our
Primary school. We have had 32 parents who have
regularly committed at least an hour each week to
support our Reading Relative Program - thank
you to those parents who have helped out. We
have also had parent guest speakers, a parent
work on the school nOISe Grade 5 newspaper, a
parent initiate the garden project, and many other
times when parents have helped (there are too
many occasions to mention here). Our PTA was set
up this year and they supported the learning our
of students by organizing and running the
International Day stalls - there was so much effort
put into that event, it was appreciated not just by
students and staff but by other parents too.
As I am writing this year book piece, I reflect back
on my time in Mumbai and particularly at OIS. I
have had a great couple of years here. I won't miss
the traffic, that's for sure, but I will certainly miss
our delightful students, who brighten up any day,

enthusiasm and passion of our staff - well done

Oberoi International School will always have a
place in my heart, and I look forward to hearing of
the continued growth and development of the
school in the future.
All the best.

Deputy Head - Early Years
I have thoroughly enjoyed
every minute of it one of the biggest joys
as an educator is to watch children
grow and learn. The OIS Early
Years program does that predominantly
through play, so we have an awful lot of
activity on the ground and first floors.

What an amazing year it has been! I have
thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it one of the
biggest joys as an educator is to watch children
grow and learn. The OIS Early Years program does
that predominantly through play, so we have an
awful lot of activity on the ground and first floors.
Play school children who spent the first few weeks
of the academic year crying, are now talking in full
English sentences! The Nursery bunch has grown
beyond us ing the i r hands/bodies to
communicate, and are now able to use feelings
words, as well as the word NO! The JKG children
have developed excellent inquiry skills and have
become quite chatty about anything you'd like to
talk to them about. The SKG group is nearly ready
for first grade they've matured into excellent
communicators who display a tremendous
amount of independence. BRAVO to all!
Our pledge is very simple and easy for each child
under my guidance to achieve. Every day I will:
smile, laugh, play, have fun, and learn new things.
What a delightful place we have filled with
amazing children that are true inquirers and take
action to further their own learning, in classrooms
and areas that are so well-resourced that the air
positively crackles with excitement from 7:30 until
3:00 every single day. I must whole-heartedly
thank the Early Years parents for fostering the
right kind of atmosphere at home that enables
your child/ children to come to school each day
fully prepared to live the pledge. Our teachers
too have grown and learned so much, and they've
turned around and applied most of it into their
own classrooms. I can say with total honesty that I
am proud of every child and adult associated with
the Early Years program at OIS, so I'll leave you
with my favorite quote by Hodding Carter: "There
are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give
our children. One of these is roots; the other,
wings." I believe we've all succeeded during the
2012-13 academic year thank you all for working
together for children!
Message from the
Deputy Head - Primary Years
OIS is a wonderful center for my
family. The commitment of the
community to growth and serving
children in the best possible ways carry
over into every interaction, making this a
place of opportunity for my family and
all community members.
Michael BaileyDEPUTY HEAD - PRIMARY YEARS
It has been a wonderful year to join the OIS
primary school. This year holds many memories
that will stay with me. Rappelling with the fourth
graders on their camping trip to Rajmachi,
spending time with the third graders in their
classrooms, experiencing the second grade
market place, celebrating the poetry of the first
and third grade students, and watching the fifth
graders thrive during exhibition have all been
highlights of a great year.
Working with the talented and dedicated OIS
faculty to develop and explore new methods to
support the children in their learning journey has
been a privilege. Focusing on the whole child,
supporting individual students, and working with
parents and teachers to ensure children have a
learning experience that challenges them and a
one they love, has been a joyful experience that I
look forward to carrying into the next year.
OIS is a wonderful center for my family. The
commitment of the community to growth and
serving children in the best possible ways carry
over into every interaction, making this a place of
opportunity for my family and all community
members.
It has been a great first year with the Oberoi
community, and my family and I are excited to
have that journey continue.
Message from the
Head - Secondary School
I would like to thank students for being
active participants inside and outside of
the classroom. It is your desire to
learn, your energy to take part in
school events and your creativity and
willingness to take initiative in new
programs that makes OIS a dynamic,
invigorating and inviting environment.
Shanna CroftonHEAD - SECONDARY SCHOOL

It seems as though the school year has gone by in
a blink. The Secondary students have been active
participants in academic and extra-curricular
activities and each week has been filled with an
exciting program of events.
A few of the highlights from the year included
Book Week, a full school initiative that allowed
secondary students to pair up with Primary
students for a reading activity, Secondary sports
day wherein teams were divided by homeroom
class and each one worked together and put in an
excellent effort showing both team spirit and a
thirst for competition, the performance of Joseph
- the inaugural musical that marked the opening
of our newly built theatre, the science exhibition,
which involved all students from Secondary, and
also experiential grade trips and community
outreach programs that have brought an extra
dimension to the OIS school life.
On behalf of the teachers and the administration I
would like to thank students for being active
participants inside and outside of the classroom. It
is your desire to learn, your energy to take part in
school events and your creativity and willingness
to take initiative in new programs that makes OIS
a dynamic, invigorating and inviting environment.
This summer, take some time to relax but we hope
you will continue to stretch your minds, try new
things and get involved in your local community.
We look forward to seeing you back at OIS in
August.
Message from the Deputy
Head - Secondary School (Pas

This year have gone from strength to
strength. At the special Masala
Assembly at the beginning of March,
there was an excellent piece by
Grade 9 IGCSE Drama group, as
well as welcomed appearance by the
Grade 10 rock band.
Philip MacDonald - MilnerDEPUTY HEAD - SECONDARY SCHOOL (PASTORAL)

This year, students in the Upper School have had a
range of opportunities for experiential learning in
and out of the classroom based on our broader
pastoral curriculum and aiming to develop key life
skills, including collaboration, service, leadership
and communication. The Grade 9 and 11 trips
helped encourage students' inter-cultural skills,
develop in them a sense of service and overcome
challenges.
The upper school homeroom programme has
been a great success over the year. Students
participated in workshops and discussions on a
range of topics including, digital citizenship,
cultural diversity, AIDS awareness and global
issues. In addition, each class represented
individual countries resulting in a highly
acclaimed fashion show and multi-cuisine food
bazaar. Assemblies this year have gone from
strength to strength. At the special Masala
Assembly at the beginning of March, there was an
excellent piece by Grade 9 IGCSE Drama group, as
well as welcomed appearance by the Grade 10
rock band. In April, Grade 11 led a fun yet
meaningful assembly to say goodbye to Grade 12
and included some memorable musical
performances. 2012-13 was the first year of
operation for The Upper School Events
Committee. As well as supporting important
whole events including Parent Teacher Days, they
arranged a highly enjoyable Spring Dance. I
would like to take this opportunity to give my
heartfelt thanks to all the students and staff that
made these events possible.
Message from the

All in all it's been a very busy year with
our triumphs and defeats as we
continually strive to be truly outstanding
educators and our students strive to put
their best foot forward and learn all
they can by seizing every new
opportunity. We're here for a reason. I
believe a bit of the reason is to throw
little torches out to lead our students
through the dark and I am certain we
have done so this year.

What a remarkable and eventful year this has
been! We have achieved so much in a year's time.
As I reflect on the year gone by, I cannot help but
admire the handwork, commitment and passion
demonstrated by our students and teachers alike.
Let's look back at our accomplishments during
the year in Middle School. This year saw the
launch of the Middle School Life Skills Program- a
program delivered by homeroom teachers to
improve/develop student's capacity to:
Enhance their sense of self, improve their
capacity to manage challenging circumstances
and develop caring and respectful relationships.
Value behaviour that contributes to active,
enjoyable and fulfilling life for themselves and
others.
Develop a willingness to participate in creating
and promoting healthy and supportive
communities and environments.
Develop a commitment to principles that
promote social responsibility and justice.
As a part of the Middle School Life Skills program,
we also celebrated a month of kindness in
October. Moving onto to November we looked at
the mission and vision of our school and the
interpretation and application of the OIS core
values in our day to day life. The sessions with Mr.
Anand Chulani were immensely enjoyed by our
middle schoolers and provided a boost to their
enthusiasm and energy. The session with Dr.
Michael Thompson were insightful and provided
useful tips to our students to manage their
emotions and resolve conflicts amicably.
In our continuous effort to empower students and
make them active participants in having a say in
the day to day functioning of the school, we
started a new initiative this year in the form of a
Middle School Events Committee". It was a very
arduous task for me and the selection committee
to shortlist just ten students from the many
worthy applications received for various posts in
the committee. However I must say that all the ten
students selected on the committee were a
formidable team who worked effortlessly and
tirelessly to put together a hugely successful and
first ever event called the "Easter Egg Hunt" and
ran the show from the conception to the
implementation stage flawlessly. I am very proud
of them! Well done!
The students continued working hard and striving
to do their best and put on a fabulous show
during International week, Diversity presentation,
Grade level assemblies, UN day and various
projects and assignments in their class. The Grade
6 and Grade7 challenged themselves on their
respective residential trips and tried the " never
been done" before activities. They made new
friends and learned different skills that will enable
them to aim and achieve higher.
All in all it's been a very busy year with our
triumphs and defeats as we continually strive to
be truly outstanding educators and our students
strive to put their best foot forward and learn all
they can by seizing every new opportunity. We're
here for a reason. I believe a bit of the reason is to
throw little torches out to lead our students
through the dark and I am certain we have done
so this year.
Looking forward to touching more lives and
enlightening more students next year.

MATH-YEAR BOOK
The maths they taught in school made me dizzy,
I even found the 7 times table hard,
While other kids looked thoughtful, smart and busy,
All I could do was stare out of the window,
But when I went to OIS, Miss Suchita helped me a lot,
Now I am busy the whole time,
And I finally know the 7 times table,
While other people look out of the window!
Maths
Math is my favorite subject,
it rises above them all.
We learn through activities,
games with cards and balls.
The teacher lets us play countdown,
which is my favorite game
The lessons go so smoothly,
like a cruise along the Thames!
I'll never have a problem,
with sales or a discount,
Percentages or Decimals,
I'll never have a miscount!
Integers and algebra,
I understood them perfectly.
The best math class ever,
is this year's.

Maths
Math is a subject full of fun,
It is liked by each and everyone.
It is useful in daily life,
Doesn't matter whether you are a child or a wife!
From math nobody can get bored,
As there are many formulas to be stored.
Some main parts include subtracting and adding,
Not forgetting the mighty multiplying and dividing.
Math is my favourite subject,
No matter how you look from any aspect.

educational activities like creating different types of charts
[poetry compositions, idioms with drawings and dialogues,
awareness advertisements, story writing, etc.] and depicting
our creativity, knowledge and skills through them.
Our way of learning is not only from books; we see
educational videos, which help us understand the
concept better. Along with this we express our learning
and skills through role-plays, of which we are the
directors and acting these out, involve a lot of fun!!!
Arvind sir and Ms. Hema had recorded them and put
t h e m o n w w w . y o u t u b e . c o m a n d o n
www.oishindi.wordpress.com. In grammar we had
learnt antonyms, nouns, adjectives, gender, tense,
prefix, suffix, adverb, idioms, punctuation,
preposition, conjunction and interjection. We had
also done question and answers and numbers.
In Hindi class, we came across lots of new friends and
new learning skills. Everyone bonded with each other
through fun activities out of which going on field trips
were the best.
In the first semester, we had a fantastic time. But to put
a grand finale, we had an educational yet wonderful
field trip. At first, going to McDonalds, Mani Bhavan,
RBI and Braille press was not quite appealing, but when
we got there it was like just what the doctor ordered.
Educational models at Mani Bhavan, real ancient seals
and coins at RBI, hearty meals at McDonalds and
fabulous sites at the Braille press added to the spice. It
was crucial to learn about these places. We had fun
along with our friends and noted down important
information that we came across.
This years Hindi was, is and will be AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

CELEBRATION
My first year at OIS has been absolutely amazing. I have made many new friends and met some
really nice teachers. Every day here has been extremely
exciting and full of surprises. I , especially enjoyed the
Kolad trip. It was a lot of fun even though we
encountered lot of creepy crawlies(not to mention the
hilarious rat incident). We had many fun activities like
the Nature trail, the Flying Fox, Burma bridges, rafting,
rock climbing, rappelling and the amazing Treasure
Hunt where we were divided into teams. Anther great
highlight was the school musical. It was a huge success
and a totally new experience for me as I had never
been in a musical before.
Overall I have had a fantastic year and I hope every
year at OIS remains just as great as this one was!.

Favorite unit
My favorite unit in English, this year, was the Looking Back
one as we were exposed to memoirs and memoir writing,
which I found very interesting. We read many memoirs but a
particular favorite of mine was a memoir by Bill Bryson, which
was hilarious and has made me want to read his books. I
learnt what to write memoirs on (subject matter), structure
(anecdotal or explode the moment) and how to use
descriptive words, words with special connotations and
figurative language. We also had an opportunity to write our
own memoir, which I really enjoyed.

Math
For me numbers looked good on the phone
and currency notes, so Math was not my idea
of fun. But then in Grade 7, we traversed the
land of numbers, finding the values of random
variables, discovered we could have more
parts than just and , learnt that speed and
not just distance mattered (especially if a rabid
dog was chasing you) and finding out what is a
Better Buy.
Now I see the benefit of Math and once you
have understood the fundamentals, it is EASY.

Year Gone By:
This year was amazing, from the beginning to
now. I have so many memories that I wish I
could go back and relive, like the Singapore
Trip, the first day of school and the International
Day. Everything was just so magical. Its like the
first day of school was yesterday, the school
year went by so fast. I guess its true that when
your having fun, things seem to go by faster,
and this year was a lot of fun. Even though we
had our own share of arguments and quarrels,
in the end, everything seemed to have worked
out. We had our peers and teachers supporting
us the whole time, and they made us feel like we
could talk to them whenever. They always had
our backs. One of my most fond memories was
the Singapore Trip we had in February. It
seemed to have helped me become more
responsible and it made me more confident.
This is because in Singapore the activities we
did challenged us, and we got to make our own
decisions on things. We had our friends
supporting us as well. It was a lot of fun and it
was so different. This year was amazing, and I
am looking forward to my next year too. This
year prepared me a lot for the future, not just in
studies, but as a person as well.

Maths this year...
This year Maths was very informative and
studious. Maths was always my best
scoring subject but this year I just didn't
score well but also understood the
concepts well. This year Maths didn't just
teach me numbers but also life skills like:-
Check your mistakes, everyone makes
them; Even the best can be defeated...
It was great to have Ms. Suchita for this
lovely year.
My school year so far...
The year in school has been
really great. There were
new teachers whom I
found really good. All our
teachers were really nice
and helpful. We had a lot
of fun taking part in the
sports day which was
organized by the school
authorities for the
school community.
This year our very first
musical took place. Students from
each grade participated in this event.
The after-school rehearsals were enjoyable and all of us put
up a great show. We also had an educational trip to
Singapore which lasted for a week. We learnt a lot and the
trip was a wonderful experience. During the year the class
got to know each other better and we made a lot of new
friends. Thus the year so far has been full of positives and I
would say this has been one of my best years in school.

Teacher: Miss Shilpi
Homeroom this year, has been fabulous. During
homeroom, we have been involved in a lot of
community service. As most people might know,
our school works in collaboration with Operation
Smile, and there are events each year, through
which we raise money for this organization.
Along with Operation Smile, the school had
organized a Giving Week. During this week,
students from different grades, were asked to
donate stationary sets, computers if they could,
files, folders and many such things that could be
donated to schools. We had a kindness week to,
during which, we were given kindness cards, and
every time we were kind to someone, we would
pass this card to them, and so on.
Along with community service, our homeroom
also saw videos on bullying. We discussed causes
of bullying, what can we do to prevent it, and we
put our ideas into a comic strip. During
homeroom, we also have assemblies, in which we
talk about some grade trips, announcements,
guest speakers come in and speak, and awards
for academic achievements are often given out. A
few of these assemblies, were related to the
subject of bullying, during which a guest speaker
came, and told us about bullying, and how we
should immediately take action against it, by
informing our elders.
Homeroom this year was amazing, with videos,
drawing, community service, fundraisers and many
other events to make the community in the school,
a happier, more generous, and joyful place.

Friends in Grade 7
Friends mean a lot in everyones life. At the end of sixth
grade I was left with only one friend, but when I entered
grade 7 I dont know how me and my one friend made 3
more friends. At the starting of the year we all didnt
know each other very well and therefore tried to get to
know each other very well by staying together and
talking a lot! We did everything together and
understood each other. It wasnt like we all played
games which helped us remember each others name
or hobbies and things like that which, we used to do in
class. It was just we talking, telling each other incidents
that happened with us and sharing information about
us. We all became really close friends and named our
friend circle KANDI. The first letter of our names made
KANDI. Slowly, after some time KANDI started to break
and one of our friends started to fade and we
separated. A fight didnt happen but something (we
didnt know what) broke the chain of us that connected
to her. After that, only us four were left. We did talk to
her and had fun with each other but not as much as we
use to have before. After some time we forgot all the
mess and started to have fun again. We laughed and
played and had a lot of
fun doing crazy stuff
that usually all friends
do but this fun was
extraordinary. It was a
lifetime experience and
till today we do all the
crazy and mad stuff,
which no one can even
imagine!

The Frost
The frost is death,
Silently approaching on a black steed,
Cold, unwanted, unwelcome.
Like a blanket of enveloping darkness;
Overpowering, greedily devouring life;
Unleashing ruin.
Once unleashed, never stopping,
Finding its way through
corners and recesses
Mercilessly, relentlessly destroying
Everything along the way.
Making its way towards its victim,
It reveals itself;
and its eyes of fear and pain
Pierce through the soul,
Leaving nothingness.

My Definition of Mathematic
Maths, Maths, Maths its the best,
Its better than all the rest.
Congruence and Similarity gives me clarity
Algebra and fraction help me in selection
Linear equation and Pythagoras,
in my life gives me chorus
We are mathematicians and we are here to say
we do mathematics every day.
Sometimes we just use paper
sometimes we use our head
or maybe at times a drawing would do instead
First study the problem
to get a clue
just whats the problem really asking you?
Next choose a strategy
which one shall be tried?
Once decided
that strategy must be applied.
Then work on problem showing
all the steps too,
at last check the answer, what it is supposed to.
Maths, Maths, Maths its the best,
Its better than all the rest.

Math Article
This year math was really interesting! We learned so
many fascinating topics, like Quadratic equations,
Pythagoras theory, the fundamentals of algebra etc. The
best part of this year though was that we always had
something challenging to do! No matter what level we
were on, we were tested to do things beyond our
comfort level, which made us realize our true potential.
Math is sometimes considered boring or difficult, but
thats not true in our case. In all our classes this year not
only did we learn new math concepts, we also played
many games related to our topics! For example, for our
unit on tessellations we made our own models of
tessellations. Also we got to go on a treasure hunt when
we were learning about Algebra, we had to go around
school finding and solving clues. So our math curriculum
not only included bookwork but
many exciting activities too!
In conclusion I would say that this
year math was not only full of
challenge but also good fun.
Most of 8th graders are pretty
nervous about higher level of
mathematics in 9th grade, but I
feel weve been adequately
prepared for the same based
on the training we got this year.
I hope all my math classes are
just as enjoyable and educating as they were this year!

Maths What is it?
Maths, even though it seems to be a difficult and tremendously hard and irritable subject,
it is quite enjoyable. It is the one subject that teaches a person the essential skills of
teamwork, problem-solving skills, etc. Maths is a subject that is studied by a huge
number of people, some are good at it, and some arent. This is what encourages people
to help each other, not only in Maths but also in life.
Not only that, problem-solving skills are an important aspect of Maths. It is not about
problems but about solving those problems. These problems not only include linear
equations or graphs, etc. These problems are about facing real-life problems and
making decisions. These problems are about analyzing data, data about the
economy or other businesses.
This was about Maths in general. But, now hows maths in 8B like? Well, it is
exhilarating. Our class is filled with people of many different opinions. So, there
are discussions, arguments, and decisions. In this class, we also learn to co-
operate and collaborate with each other and work towards a common goal. It entails
solving a really difficult problem, together. So, basically, Maths class is not only about sitting by
oneself and solving problems, it is mainly about solving a tough problem as an ensemble.

This year was filled with lots of work but at the same time
we enjoyed learning because of our teacher. When we first
entered our Hindi class there was a fear in the back of our
minds that Hindi would be really difficult in grade 8,
however Ms. Hema Joshi made it a piece of cake.
Throughout the year, we got to do several exciting activities,
which helped us understand Hindi concepts better. We did
role-plays artistic charts and we made our own stories. The
Hindi Week was thrilling as we had a story writing competition.
Everyone was encouraged to take part in the story writing
competition and, each and every one of us made an outstanding
effort.
This is the first time that we went for a field trip in Hindi! During
the field trip we went to places such as The Braille Press, Mani
Bhavan and we went to a Reserve Banks museum.
Our Hindi textbooks are such that it gives us an overall
development in all the parts of the language. It has comprehension
questions and grammar, which also helps us in the 9th grade IGCSE format. Through
the 2nd term we developed our language skills better.
In the 2nd term we were preparing for our IGCSE curriculum, which is present in 9th grade.
We learnt many new things such as form filling, report writing and summary writing.
We had set our own goals and we did accomplish them because of our hard work and
support, from our teachers and peers.

HRP Activities throughout the year
Throughout the academic year 2012-2013, the students of Grade 8 have
worked on a number of different interesting homeroom activities ranging
from making clay models, to organizing skits about diversity, to making
necessary changes to the school, that the students thought were global
issues. These activities have been both individual, and group, and have
helped in bringing the class closer together, on its way to a real team.
One of the activities that the students enjoyed a lot was the activity about
bullying. In the activity, the students had to make any visual representation
of any type of bullying (cyber bullying, physical bullying, verbal bullying etc.)
Many groups short movies, which unfortunately, they were not able to show
to other classes or students. Even though the students enjoyed making the
videos, they did not forget the real purpose of the activity, which was to first
sympathise with the victims, and then come up with a solution.
Other than this, the students enjoyed the Diversity Factor activity and the
clay Ganesh model activity also.
In all, the homeroom lessons have been a very productive, educational,
and fun lessons throughout the year
