Three-time Missouri Valley Coach of the Year winner Rickey Perkins enters his eleventh season as head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming & diving team.

While at UE, Perkins has con-tinued to carry the tradition of the program. During his career, Perkins has led the squad to 40 all-conference honors, 54 scholar-athletes and four CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-American selec-tions.

Before coming to Evansville in 2002, Perkins was a successful swim coach in Alaska, the state of Washington, and the Bahamas. He

was head assistant swim coach, re-cruiting coordinator and academic coach for the previous three years at the University of Washington. Perkins served on the coaching staff of the Barracuda Swim Club in Nassau, Bahamas from 1998-99, and before that was Head Swim Coach at the University of Alaska-Anchorage from 1994-98.

Originally from Midland, Texas, Perkins earned his bachelor’s de-gree in physical education at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He began his coaching career at the high school and club levels

in Anchorage in 1989, and then took over the program at his alma mater in 1994. Under Perkins, Alaska-Anchorage improved from 24th to 13th in the NCAA Divi-sion II National Championship meet, and produced 16 All-Amer-icans. Perkins also improved the team grade point average to better than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

In 1998 he became a National Coach for the Bahamas, and helped lead the National Team to seven meet records and its highest finish ever at the CARIFTA Swim Championships, the major swim meet among Caribbean countries. In 1999 he went to Washington, and helped the Huskies set 17 school records. Washington also produced a ninth place finisher in the 2001 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming & Diving Champion-ships.

Perkins’ wife, Delores, serves as a volunteer coach, helping out in all aspects of the team. The couple currently reside in Evansville.

Fresh off her collegiate career, Alex Howard enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Purple Aces after swimming four years for the Evansville prior to graduating from UE in May of 2011.As on of the Aces’ leading swimmers, Howard received post-season honors after all four seasons, earning all-conference honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore before being named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference first team her junior and senior years. Howard served as assistant coach for South Dearborn Swim-ming for six years and has given group and private swimming lessons since 2006.

After serving as the volunteer varsity swimming and diving coach at F. J. Reitz High School, in Evansville, Anna Wimmenauer enters her first season coaching at the collegiate level, serving as the Aces head diving coach for the 2011-12 season.While at Reitz, Wimmenauer coached two Reitz divers to top-20 finishes at the 2011 Indiana state meetOriginally from Greenwood, Ind., Wimmenauer is currently pursing a degree at University of Southern Indiana.

Delores Perkins begins her ninth year as a volunteer coach for the Aces. Wife of head coach Rickey, Perkins has always been an active member of her husband’s swimming and diving programs. Perkins graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Child Care and Child Development before receiving her master’s in Education. She has been working as a special education teacher for the past 25 years, and will begin her ninth year at Henderson County High School, in Henderson, Ky., this fall.

Mallett Reid2011-12: Named to the Academic All-MAC honorable mention team…named MAC Swimmer (Diver) of the Week on December 21, becoming just the third Purple Ace to ever be given the award…ended the season ranked 8th in the MAC on the 1-meter and 12th on the 3-meter…Finished the sea-son with six first-place scores…posted a career-high score of 278.78 on the 1-meter at the Saint Louis Triangular Invitational.

2010-11: Placed 12th on 1-meter and 16th on the 3-meter at the MAC Championships

Phil StevensonAt Indian River State: Will enter the 2012-13 season at UE as an academic junior after swimming two years for the Pioneers…part of the 38th consecutive NJCAA National Championship team…All-American Time Standards in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay.

Chris Weisheit2011-12: Ended the season with four third-place finishes on the year…placed 24th in the 100-fly in the MAC Championships...fin-ished the year ranked 19th in the MAC in the 200-fly with a time of 1:59.44…set a career-best times in the 1000-free, 100-fly and 200-fly during the season

2010-11: Swam a season-best time in the 500-freestyle preliminary heat at the MAC Championships…posted a season-best time of 54.77 in the 100-fly at the Delta State Invitational…

Garrett Johnson2011-12: Owned Evansville’s best time and ranked 12th in the MAC with a time of 4:14.05 in the 400-IM…swam in 10 different individual events for UE…ended the season with 12 Top-3 times in various individual events…notched two first place finishes in the 500-free, winning the event at Ball State on October 22 and again against Eastern Illinois on October 23…placed 20th in both the 400-IM and 1650-free at the MAC Championships.

Matthew Newland2011-12: Owned Evansville’s best times in the 400-IM, 1000-free, and 1650-free and the Aces’ second-best time in the 400-IM…fin-ished the season with 12 Top-3 finishes individual events…won the 1000-free three times on the year, winning at Ball State on Octo-ber 22, against Eastern Illinois on October 23 and against Lindsay Wilson on January 14…placed 21st in the 400-IM and 19th in the 1650-free at the MAC Championships.
