FROM THE STUDENT HANDBOOK:

Completion of the USMLE, Step 1 is required for graduation from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. All students are required to take the exam prior to beginning Year Three.

Individually-Designed Selectives• The Individually-Designed Selective (IDS) option is available to students who are

interested in a course or topic for which a regular selective does not exist

• IDS will be considered only under special circumstances, and must be with SIU Faculty and Advisor Approval
