POSITIONS IN THE FIRST QUADRANT
Positions in the first quadrant simply means coordinates. Coordinates are numbers from a
grid, that are put together to find a specific point. It tells people directly where to go.
We read a grid X axis, then Y axis. Along the corridor and up the stairs.
POSITIONS IN THE FIRST QUADRANT
We read a grid X axis, then Y axis. Along the corridor and up the stairs.
Coordinates are always wrote in brackets.
Look at the example below:
(3, 10)
POSITIONS IN THE FIRST QUADRANT Look at the example below:
(3, 10)
Go along the X axis (bottom) to find 3.
POSITIONS IN THE FIRST QUADRANT Look at the example below:
(3, 10)
Go along the X axis (bottom) to find 3.
And then up the Y axis to find 10.
POSITIONS IN THE FIRST QUADRANT Look at the example below:
(3, 10)
Go along the X axis (bottom) to find 3.
And then up the Y axis to find 10.
We have now found the point (3, 10)

TRANSITION ACTIVITYAs you transition through school and move into your new class, you begin to think about your future and what you would like to achieve. It is always good to have dreams and aspirations.
Today you are going to design your own dream jar which can fill with all your dreams and aspirations for you future.
Here are some examples below.

TRANSITION ACTIVITY- MAKE A DREAM JAR.
READING ACTIVITY Reread the chapter from yesterday and answer the following questions.
PSHE
What does kindness, courage and friendship mean?
When have you shown these recently?
PSHE
Kindness means to show the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.
Courage is showing bravery and having the ability to do something that may frighten you.
Friendship is the state of being friends with someone. We all know how to be a good friend.

REFLECTION
Reflecting a shape means that they are the same on each side.
When reflecting an image, you will see a line down the middle of the page. This is the line of
symmetry.
This line should show the same image on each side, as if you were looking in a mirror!
REFLECTIONThis shape needs to be reflected. It is on the line of symmetry.
We can count how many squares away the shape is from the line of symmetry and make it the
same on both sides.
Look below:

This part of the shape is 1 square wide. So
we reflect this on the other side of the line of

They are the same.
SHAPE 1• LOOK AT THIS SHAPE.
• WHEN THE SHAPE IS AWAY FROM THE LINE OF SYMMETRY, WE COUNT HOW MANY SQUARES IT IS AWAY, AND REFLECT IT THE SAME DISTANCE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LINE.
• CAN YOU SPOT THE REFLECTION OF THE SHAPE ON THE NEXT SLIDE?
A B
C D
CONGRATULATIONS!THE CORRECT ANSWER IS B!

NEXT SLIDE?

SHAPE 3• LOOK AT THIS SHAPE.
• THIS TIME, OUR LINE OF SYMMETRY HAS CHANGED. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE REFLECTION SHOULD BE ANY DIFFERENT THOUGH!

CONGRATULATIONS!THE CORRECT ANSWER IS A!

TRANSITION ACTIVITYToday you are going to make your dream jar which you designed yesterday. Think about the dreams and aspirations which you are going to add to your jar. It doesn’t just have to be about what you would like to achieve next year, it could be about places you’d like to visit or your dream car etc.
Here are some examples below.

TRANSLATION
Translation is when we take a shape and move it from one place to another.
This does not change the size of the shape, just the position.
Think about translating a language, what you say doesn’t change, just the language!
Look at the example below, it is the same shape, just moved slightly.
TRANSLATION
Look at shape A.
How has it moved to point B?
We can find out!
Pick a point on the triangle.

count that too!

We know that the answer to this questions must be 5 right, 3 up!
