I keep this beautiful and challenging reflection about children in my bible and I often reflect on it to see how I measure up. Please take the time to read it and reflect upon what it is saying to you!

Listening to our Children:It is so easy, O LordTo tell our children what they ought to beOr what they ought to do.We often forget that they are real people,With real feelings and fears, desires and ambitions.Rather than seek to understand them,We attempt to program them,Insisting that they conform to our image trying to mould them into replicas of ourselves. They are at times so lovely,At times so cantankerousBut they are your children, LordFilled with your Spirit. We want so much for them to develop and matureIn accordance with your will and plan for their lives.Teach us to treat them as persons,Even while we must lovingly discipline them.Teach us to listen to them -Their childish explosions of anger and frustration,Their doubts, fears, joys and pains -Even to share with them our joys and frustrations,So they may know we are all your fallible children.Help us to truly love them,And grant that they may feel assured of that love.

Dear Lord, children are a very precious gift; you have made our

children as varied as the flowers of a garden. You have blessed

each one uniquely. Each fragile, growing child is infinitely

precious in your sight. You have entrusted us with the joy of

seeing them grow. Please guide us as we walk through life with

them.

Sunday Gospel Reflection - Luke 24: 56-53 - The Ascension of the Lord

The Feast of the Ascension is really a kind of liminal moment in the Easter season. It is a time between times; a moment when we have left one place, but have not yet arrived at a second. While the narratives that describe the Ascension fit well into the unfolding story of redemption, the feast celebrates the exaltation of Jesus. The readings allow us to focus on this theological point while we commemorate a turning point in the life of the church. We do this by considering the enthronement of Christ in the heavens and the new body of Christ on earth.

Many of the Easter accounts have directed our attention to the appearances of Jesus which were intended to strengthen the Christians' belief in his bodily resurrection.

Today we stand awestruck, watching Jesus ascend into the clouds of heaven, there to be enthroned at the right hand of God. Today is a day to be overwhelmed by the reality of the divinity of the one whom we have known in his humanity.

Christ who ascended into heaven in his body carries on what he began on earth through his new body, the community of believers.

He teaches through its apostles and evangelists.

He ministers through its prophets and pastors.

We have not been left alone; we have his power, the same power with which he performed marvels when he walked the earth.

We have not been left alone; we have each other. Together we make up the new body of Christ.

Prayer

Loving God,

We have not known Jesus in the flesh yet still we are called to be his witnesses.

Send us your Spirit from on high that we may live by the life of Jesus and radiate his love to all whom we know.

We ask this in his name confident that you will hear us.

Amen.

Giving Table & Meals for Those in NeedOur care for the poor is an important part of our ministry at St Anne’s. Thank you to the parents and families who continue to donate items to our giving table (located in the school office). These small items go a long way to helping those in need. If you are able to donate something small or even cook a small meal (e.g. spaghetti bolognaise), it will be greatly appreciated.

Catholic Social Teaching - The Common Good What is community? What is ‘true community’? How can we be a good community? The principle of the Common Good is introduced by highlighting the intrinsic human need for and value of friendship and community. The common good is reached when we work together to improve the wellbeing of people in our society and the wider world. The rights of the individual to personal possessions and community resources must be balanced with the needs of the disadvantaged and dispossessed. At St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, we work in collaboration with the local and wider community to promote the common good. We continue to build a strong sense of community through living the Gospel message. This is where we see compassion and love for all, just like our greatest teacher, Jesus Christ.

Peace and Blessings, Mr Stuart PresleyAssistant Principal (Religious Education)[email protected]

MICHAEL SALMON AUTHOR VISIT | Last Thursday renowned author, Michael Salmon, visited our school community. During the course of his time with our students he inspired many of our budding writers and artists to keep persisting with their endeavours. Michael spoke of the importance of creativity and how it applies to each student, whilst illustrating speedily on the board. He spoke about getting ideas for stories and drawings, relating his own sometimes humorous encounters … that in turn led to a book title. Towards the end of his time with us, Michael caricatured a couple of our students and then got a third to draw him and gave out some rather silly prizes.

Sports News Mrs Place

STA CRUSADERS | Captain Xavier Welling led the team to victory last week when they played against St John’s/St Brendan’s combined team. The final score was 36 to 10. Xavier indicated that a highlight for him was that the team played strongly in defence for the whole game. “This was the best game our team has played”, said Xavier. Xavier asks that the team continues to keep up the good work and stay strong.

STA DIAMONDS | St Anne’s Diamonds played Koumala Cowgirls on Thursday 30th May. They just lost by one with a score of 3 – 4.

Half of the game was rained out unfortunately. The team played really well; their focus this week was quick hands and breaking forward. They should be very proud of how they are progressing in their skills. Elita Mcdonald received best and fairest for the match.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP | Leadership is a quality that all students at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School are encouraged and supported to develop. These experiences ensure that students perceive themselves as leaders and have the opportunity and confidence to take on leadership roles and find their voice.

CAPTAIN REPORT KATELYN VASSALLO | My values as a school leader are to be honest, responsible, reliable, respectful, to have compassion as well as encouraging others. To me a leader also has to have great sportsmanship and to be a good role model to all other students. I believe treating people how you want to be treated, makes you a better person.

These values are super important to me as it helps me to stay positive, to be kind and to do the right thing at school and at home. Family and friendships are also very important to me as they love and support me and they make me happy!

MACKAY MARINA FUN RUN | On the weekend some past and present students and staff from St Anne’s participated in the Mackay Marina Fun Run. From what we have been told everyone enjoyed the morning and felt that they had achieved something worthwhile. Special mention to Ryan John & Jackson Roelofs who came in within 2 seconds of each other to place 9th and 11th respectively in the U20 category of the 5km run. Past student Jason Grimmond finished between them in 10th position. Also, special mention goes to Mrs Vernon who ran the 8km course and then backed up to run the 5km with Ryan, Jack and other students.
